Jamie's handwriting is neat, plain, and utilitarian, much like Jamie himself. I'm guessing he probably isn't really accustomed to writing things out by hand, but when he does he wants it to be orderly and legible, and he's anal-retentive enough to be willing to expend the effort making it so, even if it's easier to just scrawl something out in a hurry.
