Children in gargoyle society are raised communally. The only way for a gargoyle to be an orphan would be if the entire generation before them was wiped out. So meeting a human child with little to no true family guidance just reminds him of one of the differences between the Gargoyle Way and the Human Way which he could, were he in a mindset to be biased, call a social flaw.
His instinct is to parent all gargoyle children, regardless of whether they are of his direct bloodline or not, and while this instinct does not extend to human children (they have families of their own, and the Human Way is not the Gargoyle Way), a human child who has no family at all . . .
