Yeah, it's mostly why she's pushing for him to do things with other people aboard the ship. She knows how strong connections can be.
Miku could probably be persuaded into using a weapon if it was to defend Steve. The only reason she used the camera was because she felt it could help her find Mafuyu (which it did... sort of). Please note that in both cases, it's to defend someone else, and not her, because Miku would easily let herself die otherwise. Sometimes her personality shifts to being a bit fatalistic.
If something seems absolutely impossible, she will literally give up and lie down to die. (Please see Fatal Frame III when all options to combat the tattoo curse have failed. Miku is ready to die - though one could argue it was because she was in such a huge amount of pain she wasn't thinking straight.)
