Character: Reimi Saionji Canon: Star Ocean Universe (Star Ocean, The Second Story, Till the End of Time, The Last Hope)
Interesting things about the character: - Reimi is immune to all forms of disease. It's not to say that she will just walk through a biocontagion area, no, but due to her genetic modification with Muah DNA, she is able to shrug off any disease she picks up, and any cures will work instantly. - Mastered Japanese and Eastern Archery at a young age. This allows her to hit anything she desires. - Her powers are all through advanced training and Chi primarily, not unlike the other major races of this game series such as Klausians. However she has no speck of Symbology, or at least from what you see. - Reimi has always been a constant support for people in the game, even when she's laid low from a petrification disease during the Roak Era. - Speaking of said Petrification, Reimi is taken from before the end of Roak Arc, so the mid-game events have yet to happen for her.
Interesting things about the canon/fandom: - Star Ocean is an encompassing story that follows from the beginning (The Last Hope), to the last game featuring Fayt Leingod (Till the End of Time). It's connected in interesting ways, 1 and The Second Story being that they are connected via Family. And the real twist is that their universe is a big MMORPG called The Eternal Sphere, as revealed in Star Ocean 3. - The game has the most overpowered characters in any game possible, hands down. 3 has the crew regularly beating down things that wreck whole universes with weapons and armor. - The first and second game were reported to the PSP with voice overs and redesigned artwork. Many fan favorites came out to voice both games, which did rather well in the re-release. - Star Ocean was in fact created by a team who left Namco Bandai after Tales of Phantasia was created, and can be considered a spiritual successor of that game series. It's no wonder the fans who love Tales Of often love Star Ocean, no matter how quirky and ragey both fandoms get. - Star Ocean casts often include some kind of cat-eared person (Leon in 2, Meracle in 4) or a lolicon-type (Lymle in 4) which are I suppose design intentions for the directors. I dunno maybe there's something to do with both types.
Anything else?:
Star Ocean is developed by the core team of ENIX of Square-Enix which means there's a lot of guest stars from games. Valkyrie Profile characters feature heavily.
