You only find it bewildering because you're not the one whose world is being called savage. What if someone even farther from the future said that to you? A part of you would be a little insulted! Besides, consider that I'm fresh into this spaceship I've never seen before, and trying to learn to be tolerant about other people's customs. The last thing I want to hear is hwo savage my world is!

If someone even further in the future said the same to me, their assessment would be accurate. If they have a greater body of knowledge their society has accumulated, and live in even better conditions than people do in my own time, my time would indeed be savage in comparison.

I'm all big knees and skinny . . . everything. You're being really nice, but my hair's not that great, this plantsuit just keeps it really clean.

I guess I wouldn't really know if I have a nice smile or not. I've only seen myself smile in photos, and it looks kind of forced, but everybody's smile looks weird when they do it on command.

You're really pretty, too - I bet all the guys think you're beautiful. 8.

Well I think you look perfectly nice. And trust me, I think we all are looking much better thanks to the plansuit. I've spent most of the time running away from people trying to kill or capture us and participating in wars. You don't exactly get to freshen up whenever you like.

That makes sense. I still like it though.
