Water.

Lots of water.

Arha's eyes were huge as she stared at the crashing surf and the massive amount of water. She had tried one of these...swim-suits (http://www2.victoriassecret.com/images/prodpri2/V293189_N97.jpg) but stayed far from the water, quietly watching the rest of the people with a slightly startled air of disbelief. They were swimming in it!

She was uncertain what to do at all and watched a crab scuttle across the sand.

"It is...big." Red Snout shares her trepidation. It's nothing he's ever experienced before.

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Bigger than the biggest cache of water I have ever seen," Arha said, hugging her knees to her chest. "No one protects this, apparently. A world with water so plentiful no one guards it? It is almost unbelievable."

[identity profile] raptorwithagun.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"We must guard our water from other tribes and humans and sometimes herbivores who don't realize where they are. But we have enough."

He hunkers down, scratching in the sand with a claw.

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
"There is no open water on my world," Arha said. "It is hidden and the most precious thing we have. You are lucky to have enough water, Red Snout. We of the desert survive by recycling what our bodies give us and, if we are lucky, we find caches of water deep underground. Such sustains life on Arrakis."

Here's a Will who has no idea why anybody would be unhappy on this most glorious of days!

"Aren't you going to go swimming?"

She is already sopping wet from a serious round of bodysurfing.

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
"I am unsure of how to do so," Arha said cautiously. "And I am not...overly fond of immersion."

[identity profile] its-keeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
"You don't know how to swim?"

Yeah, Will had to translate that.

"I could teach you. I'm on the swim team. I've won a lot of competitions. I'm really good."

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
"I would not wish to be eaten by it," Arha said thoughtfully. "Perhaps it would not be such a terrible thing to learn this swimming thing."

[identity profile] its-keeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
"The ocean doesn't eat you." Will laughs. "C'mon, there's an inlet over there. The water's calmer. It'll be a good place for learning."

Sheeana came up behind her Sister, wearing a mischevious grin and something scarlet and backless (http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k199/nunung_2006/lingerie/1179425754.jpg).

"Relax, sister. It's not as if..." Then she noticed the water. Her eyes went wide and she reeled as if struck. "Kull Wahad!"

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
"I have never seen such a thing," Arha said, still staring, though for a moment, she glanced at Sheeana. "It is a great deal of water. Men would kill for such."

Ghani's eyes widen as she takes in the beach and sea before her. She has her Grandmother's memories of Caladan - but it is not the same as actually seeing such a sight.

Her brows furrow though as she looks around. "Why are they wearing almost no clothings?"

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
"I do not know, but I have followed this ridiculous custom of wearing almost nothing. They are getting wet." Arha was still watching the crab, which seemed intent upon sidling up to her. "And there are strange little creatures."

She nudged the crab and it scuttled its way onto her palm, where there was a silent staring contest between Bene Gesserit and sea creature.

And then it reached out and attempted to pinch her nose.

Arha dropped him back onto the sand, but he didn't go far.

[identity profile] worm-dancer.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
A crysknife flashed out and speared the crab as if it weren't even there. "Other Memory tells me this is called a 'crab'. They are apparently quite nutritious." She says as she looks at the various fire pits forming. She grins like a child with a cookie.

Kate approached, likewise in a bikini, and had a friendly smile on her face.

"Never seen an ocean before?"

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
"I have not," Arha said, risking a quick glance at the woman. "It is very, very large and very, very wet. I am a desert creature, such is not possible on my world."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, it's more like Earth. Back home we have several oceans. Hard to imagine how life must be on a desert planet. There has to be some water even a little?"

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
"There is no free water. It remains locked away from the surface. sometimes there are underground caches," Arha said, nudging the curious crab with a forefinger. It waved at her. Snap! Snap! Snap!

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
"How do you live there? Must have advanced ways to conserve the water, or some don't really need it?"

[identity profile] hunters-luck.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Mara escaped from the wrestling and made her way back up the beach, absolutely soaked, winded, and still pulling seaweed out of her hair. The fact that she was smiling gave away the fact that the tusseling had not been particularly serious.

She spotted Arha and wandered towards her rock. "Not used to this?"

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"There is just sand where I have lived," Arha said, arching an eyebrow. "I am not used to seeing so much free water. The biggest amount of water I have seen are the puddles in Arakeen and they were not so big." She put the point of her chin on a knee and tilted her head to glance up at the woman.

"You are...very wet."

[identity profile] hunters-luck.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's usually what happens after a couple of Jedi decide that I looked far too comfortable sitting on the shore." Mara stops next to the rock, looking up at the other red head. "I'm not sure how this is more fun than letting me catch up on my reading, but they're almost impossible to convince once they have an idea."

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"I do not understand such logic," Arha said with a sigh. "Perhaps it is they who like to see you wet?" She blinked and then laughed. "Such would be fun for them, I suspect."

[identity profile] hunters-luck.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Mara shrugs. "Men do have an obsession with seeing women wet. They think it's sensual." She pulls another piece of seaweed from her hair. "I have to say, I don't understand it, aside from the clinging clothes."
