"Oh, it depends on the planet you're going to." Luke grinned over his shoulder. "Anywhere from microscopic to many times the size of a human male."

Obi-Wan shot Luke a stern look, "Now, stop scaring her, this isn't Naboo and we're not going to—"

Oh. He sees what you're doing, Luke Skywalker, you sneaky bastard. Have some narrowed eyes, why is everyone always trying to play matchmaker with him?

"There's no need for alarm. I'm sure we're perfectly safe here. It's a protected cove, and a shallow one...we'll be fine. Try and enjoy yourself."

Many times bigger than a human male?! Arha was still focused on that statement as she tried to figure out what the hell that might look like. And then she mumbled something terribly uncouth under her breath, mostly about big fish-things.

Letting go of Obi-Wan was still not an option and she stayed fast, though Luke got a mildly amused look.

"If there were such creatures in this place, a lightsaber would come in handy. They do work under water, yes?"

[identity profile] jedimacguyver.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"They...can be made to, yes," Obi-Wan replied, awkwardly, knowing his own lightsaber would short out handily if he tried it. There were ways to make the devices functional underwater— the first Nautolan Jedi Artisans had seen to that, but he'd never had much call for it and so hadn't bothered with the fiddly modification.

"Hm," she murmured. "One should always be prepared for such. What would one do if their weapon could not be relied upon in all circumstances? I should not like to die from being eaten because my weapon has failed."

Arha felt a particularly unpleasant stab of pain radiating from the toe she had just stubbed. She let go of Obi-Wan abruptly, disappeared underwater and came up holding a particularly annoyed crab.

"These things!" she snapped, dangling the creature up in front of Obi-Wan's face. "They pinch!"

It clacked its claws in irritation, looking very much like Arha at the moment.

Luke grinned and waded out farther. "They get bigger," he said cheerfully. "I've heard of ones as big across as a landspeeder."

"You are not being helpful, Jed-Eye!" she called after him.

And besides, she did not know how big a land-speeder was. Arha stared at the crab, who was agitated, and put him down on her palm. He tried to pinch her again and she shook a finger at him as he waved a claw at her.

"You do not have bigger relatives, do you?" she asked solemnly. Clack, clack, clack! was all she got from the crab. "I do not want to be pinched into pieces by very large crustaceans. Oh!"

Arha looked up in time to be summarily hit in the face by a swell. She spluttered and the crab made a daring escape.

Lucky creature, because from his expression, Obi-Wan was about to use it as a projectile to put a certain Skywalker in his proper place. Instead he's left blowing the wet out of his mustache and holding up a delightfully wet and clinging Bene Gesserit— at least until he can *ahem* shand her on her feet in a more appropriate manner...

Luke bobbed in the waves, quite pleased with himself. I seem to have become more cunning in my old age, he thought with a little laugh. Perhaps it was because he thought Obi-Wan a better match for her anyway. He'd hurt Arha--oh, she hid it, but he knew--and wanted to make it up to her, and he'd seen how Obi-Wan looked at her (though he doubted Obi-Wan himself noticed how he looked at Arha)...

"Isn't the water nice?" he yells at them, rolling to float on his back.

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
"It is wet!" Arha tossed back at him. "And salty!"

And then she blinked as she realized she was most definitely clinging to Obi-Wan in a manner that was... Well. She was Bene Gesserit. She should not have to mince words.

And yet she minced them very fine.

This was not a discreet clinging and the waves were being unkind, for every time she let go, she found herself smooshed back into the same position. Sea assault. How ironic for a Fremen to be smacked around by a sea.

Obi-Wn bore it with admirable stoicism, and shot a glare at Luke. On impulse— oh, he'd regret it, later —he touched the force and let it speak into Luke's mind, 'You'll get what's coming to you'

Luke just grinned and sent Obi-Wan a wave of disbelief. Perhaps it wasn't a very Jedi thing to think, but whatever was coming to him was so worth seeing this.

"Jed-Eye," Arha mumbled under her breath and settled against Obi-Wan a bit more comfortably. If the water was going to be stupid, then she would make do.
