"You wear a suit of armor like mine day in day out for a few years, Guzman, and see what color you are when you're done."

He opens one eye fully to watch Paco, but otherwise doesn't move. He's just teasing, really. There's no real severity in it.

"What are you up to?"

"Probably not as white as you are," Paco returned with a chuckle. "I got the melanin explanation waaaaay back in elementary school when Brenda kept turning lobster-colored."

He yawned and set his drink down so he could push his sunglasses back up on his nose.

"Nothing much. Brenda's inflicting fun on Brainy, and I think Jaime's been eaten by sand." A beat. "Not literally."

"Good, if he were I'd have to get up."

It takes conscious effort for him to relax like this. He generally doesn't like being so vulnerable.

"We still going to have a Brainy when Brenda's done with him?"

"And that would suck," Paco agreed. He liked to think of being relaxed as his natural state of being, and beaches were a good place to enjoy that.

"Probably. Unless he melts like the Wicked Witch of the West when she chucks him into the ocean. But he'd have mentioned that if it were a problem."
