With a still astonished tone: "No. Never." You got it right, grey boy!

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh..." And here he thought he had been making a joke. "Well, allow me ta give ya the gist; The ocean is a large body of completely undrinkable water. You can swim in it, boat on it, fish in it, and, of course, dump bodies in it. Most people prefer swimming. I'm trying to remember if I can." He stopped, a realization hitting him for a moment.

"Ya ain't seen an ocean... Have ya seen a lake? Pool? Anything waterwise larger than a bathtub?"

[identity profile] worm-dancer.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
"I know what one is. I've just never seen one, outside of Other Memory. Never anything larger than a shower and that only while I was an acolyte on Chapterhouse." She searched his features for clues. He didn't seem waterfat, but he seemed to know enough about this...ocean. "I doubt sights such as these are common where you come from either...I would hazard that your seas are much more of the raging and cold type that Norsemen would sail into."

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
"I... I ain't entirely sure. Lived on Earth for a while, that place is lousy with oceans. Ain't ever seen Czarnia in person, and the memories I got from my..." He paused for a moment, as if finding the right words. "... Pops... they get fuzzy a lot." He shrugged.

"An' Rhode Island, where I spent my time on Earth? Not exactly this kinda tropical climate. Cold enough that once I kicked my team apparently moved to Cali."

[identity profile] worm-dancer.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Memories? Sheeana made a note to pursue that line of inquiry. Sometime when i'm not in a crack log.

"So do you know how to swim?"

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Stiiiiillll figurin' that out. You?" Quick reversal to keep attention off of the fact that the Top Teen may have forgotten how to do something dogs do on instinct.

[identity profile] worm-dancer.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
It's ok, Sheeana never learned in the first place. "No, but my immediate predecessor does. Would you like to try it?" This may be your opportunity to put your hands on her and not have your larynx crushed before you can blink, Slobo. What she's wearing (http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k199/nunung_2006/lingerie/1179425754.jpg) may also factor into your decision.

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
He looks at the water, still a bit afraid.

But then again, he also looks at Sheeana.

Decisions, decisions.

"Sure..." If he dies, at least he knows he'll die relatively close to happy.

[identity profile] worm-dancer.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Up to your usual tricks, little mouse? Odrade within says.

Not really. That wouldn't be much of a challenge in this case. I find him interesting though. Please, standby. I may need Sea Child soon.

The Fremen scoffs at her until she needs her, eh?

There is no internal response to that as Sheeana stepsquietly into the surf. The movement is sickening, a rocking rythm that is like riding the Worm while drunk.

She stumbles with a breaker.

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
There's a short break in Slobo's usual demeanor as she stumbles. He quickly rushes into the water without thought to catch her, his face showing what could easily be interpreted as concern. It's only a flash, a moment, however, as he falls easily back into a smile and gleam of eye.

"Ya sure ya got this, Bright Eyes?" He says laughingly, only to realize he's in the water himself. "Not that there's much turnin' back for either of us at this point."

[identity profile] worm-dancer.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Sheeana catches that. So he's not all jest. She leans into him before tensing her muscles and springing off.

"No, I am not at all sure. But then the universe never gives us guarantees, does it?" A small smile as she tries walking backwards into it, becoming more and more immersed.

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
His own muscles tensed quickly at her proximity, relaxing as she backed away. It had never occurred to Slobo, but in his own, undiluted memories, that is the closest he had ever been to a woman. Even Anita and Secret had kept him at arm's length, like a rabid dog they were waiting to bite them. That was one reason he like this ship: most weren't instinctively afraid of his "father's" legacy. He started wading after her, wobbling a little here and there but never fully losing balance.

"Alright, so if I go under," He said with another grin, "You know CPR, right?"

[identity profile] worm-dancer.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
When she was up to her shoulders (which was really not that high, being slight and not that much taller than Slobo) and flailing with the disruptions of her connection to the ground, Sheeana let something go in her mind.

She awkwardly half-bobbed over to him, smiling. But when she spoke, the voice was of an older woman, motherly-sounding. "There's no secret to balance. You just have to get in tune with the waves."

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
In the DCU, when someone began speaking like someone else, nine times out of ten, it was bad.

The tenth time, it was Deadman, which was just annoying.

Slobo tense quickly, his muscles ready to spring into action, loss of balance overridden by raw strength. He stood in the waves, resolute, like a stone at a breakwater.

"You ain't Bright Eyes..." He said as he eyed Sheeana's form warily. "I got good hearin', and yer bein' more obvious than most." Ah, cultureshock.

[identity profile] worm-dancer.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Perceptive. I am Sheeana's immediate predecessor, former Mother-Superior Darwi Odrade. Do not worry. She invited me so I could teach you both how to swim." She floated much more naturally now, as if she hadn't actually grown up on a desert planet.

Interiorly, Darwi found this whole thing cute. Do you hear what he calls you?

Don't make too much of it.

Ah, but it is my job to make much of my desert waif!

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Mother Superior?" Slobo's expression gave way to one of utter confusion. "Uh... Ya sure about that? She don't exactly look like any nun I ever seen... An' besides that... I mean, the swimmin' thing's important... an' I could probably use the tips, but how's she gonna learn if yer in her body?" When Deadman left someone, he took his knowledge with him, so this was a pertinent question to the second-to-last-Czarnian.

[identity profile] worm-dancer.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
A soft chuckle from the woman as she floated onto her back. "Her muscles will remember. You must be from an era where female religious orders are assumed to be chaste. We Bene Gesserit, however, are not just famous as truthsayers and mystics but as..." There might or might not have been a purr in her voice, not the Voice of Command but a faint hinting at something "...concubines. Now relax your muscles and follow me."

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Slobo relaxed and followed, though mentally remaining on guard. He had people in his head, too, but they didn't come out for chats or to teach at the Y. This was... fairly new for him.

"So... No oceans on yer world, huh?" He said almost nervously.

[identity profile] worm-dancer.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
There were a set of motions, a common posture to swimming. She led him through them as if he were a first year acolyte. "Oh, I grew up next to the ocean. But Sheeana's world is...was a desert planet. There was no native water there."

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
"An' entire world of desert? Yeesh." He said as he started to get the hang of swimming. "Talk about yer 'sand in places sand shouldn't be'..."

[identity profile] worm-dancer.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
She shifted over to half float half dog paddle on her stomach and face him. "Is that something you wish to find out?"

Stop that at once! Honestly, you are getting revenge on me for all the pranks I pulled on the teaching proctors, aren't you?

As you wish... And the Odrade-personality obediantly withdrawed...Leaving Sheeana sputtering as she lost her structure. It was a few seconds before she remembered what her muscles had just been doing and managed to somewhat float.

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Slobo swam over, himself getting the hang of things, and eyed Sheeana warily again. After a moment, and her barely floating, he breathed a sigh of what seemed to be relief.

"Man, that's one neat, albeit creepy, trick, Bright Eyes. Ya got a lotta people like that in there?" He smiled. "Ya ain't gonna start goin' all Norman Bates on me, are ya?"

[identity profile] worm-dancer.livejournal.com 2009-10-30 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
She managed to face him. Paddling as hard as she did would have exhausted anyone else but a Bene Gesserit could call on more from their muscles than others.

"Quite a few. Darwi was my mentor...Who is 'Norman Bates'?" Noone in Other Memory volunteered information on that name.

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2009-10-30 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Slobo blinked. No water, AND no classic horror films? God. He wasn't the only one for whom the meatship was a step up.

"He's from the best horror movie of all time. A thing called 'Psycho'." He smiled warily, his mind picking up on a plan. "If I can find it, I'll have ta sit ya down and watch it sometime." The meatship equivalent of asking a girl to the movies. "Course, ya may have ta refresh my memory. Ain't sure how much of this we get ta take off the beach with us, if any."

[identity profile] worm-dancer.livejournal.com 2009-10-31 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
"I doubt a holo intended to frighten would work on me. Within Other Memory there is every horror humans have committed. Our ancestors often did savage things to survive, or else they never would have been our ancestors in the first place, would they? Nevertheless it sounds entertaining." She awkwardly swam to him. "I will go with you and Darwi will remember this conversation. I'm going to try diving."
