"Huh. Sounds like ya miss this Aang guy most of all." As he pointed out the obvious, his own mind drifted. "I got someone like that back home... Someone I, yanno, really miss. It can hurt." Another pause. "Especially when ya wish ya had said things before you were gone." His mood seemed to sink as he described the feeling.

And then that blissful look changed to a more hardened look, as if all the optimism Katara had was only a passing thing. "And he's somewhere on this ship, being kept away."

"Then we should go get 'im when we're done bein' trap-bait, if he's still caged." He pointed to his nose. "I can track people. By scent. Through SPACE. I should be able ta find a kid who smells like soggy firewood and windblown earth."

"Thank you Slobo," Katara said. "He means more than even I could say, to be honest with you. I don't know if he's caged, I cam only remember he said he was protecting the people on this ship. From what, I don't know."
She turned to the boy. "So...who is she? The one back home you miss?"

"That's... complicated." Partially because his dream had made something very clear to him, he wasn't sure who it was he missed. At least he had it narrowed down to two, some couldn't say that. At first he thought of Anita, slowly realizing she was a great friend, a best friend, but as far as relationships go, that was all.
"Her name was Greta. She was like me, in a lot of ways." His tone showed what his back didn't. "People feared her darkness and usually ignored her light."

She hated when people assumed things about others without really knowing them.
"Why was that? Was she powerful like you too?"

"Birdboy didn't exactly help any till the very end, even though she thought the world o' him." Full on bitterness, like an old Guinness."Idiot."

But this girl, how could she if she were feared by her own team?
"That was idiotic," Katara said. "Your team needs to stand behind you, they're your strength. If they abandon you, that can..."
Well. She didn't want to think about it.

"Ya don't get what ya want, and ya can't even say ya get repaid by knowin' the people ya cared about are really okay when it's all over. 'S just the universe I come from, Aqualass."

Katara looked a little reflective. "I believe we can make our own set of rules, Slobo, and I don't think we should let people who let us down in the past dictate the future. Not for me, anyway."
no subject
"I like that idea. This place is kinda a fresh start, ain't it?"

She was quiet a moment. "And anytime I feel close to breaking, I have someone new I can talk to. Everyone's experiences are different."
