"A pleasure, mister Picard. And I can see why Charles' students would take to you. You even seem to have the same air of leadership about you. Peculiar."

Erik allowed himself to smirk a bit. Oh, and don't mind the orbiting ball bearings. He's kinda forgotten they were still there.

Picard did actually notice them, and he seemed rather fascinated by them. "May I?" he asked, gesturing to one of the orbiting metal spheres.

Erik, had actually forgotten they were there. It had actually become a bit of a nervous habit. "Hm? Oh, of course." He held out a hand and the small metal balls landed softly in his hand.

"To think a human being could be capable of such a feat is incredible," Picard mused, glancing at the spheres once more. "The wonders of your reality will never cease to amaze me, Mister Lensherr."

Erik sighed and as he closed his hand around the orbs for a moment, looking markedly more somber.

"I wish more people shared your enlightened view of mutants... unfortunately humanity has yet to be so big as to be tolerant."

"I don't think mutantkind would have any problems being accepted on my own world, once the initial suspicion of genetic engineering was appeased."

"While your views are most definitely welcome, I'm afraid they are rather misplaced..."

He opens his palm, and the three orbs have melded into one large one, and random nearby metallic objects are rising up from the sand.

"Humans have a history of fearing the different. And they all have one reaction..."

Those random bits of metal, primarily empty beer cans, begin to be crushed into small perfect cubes.

"Hatred. Hatred leads only to violence. Humanity has already shown that they fear and hate mutants. Even Charles' vaunted X-Men are persecuted to the point that entire families are ripped apart. It is an all too common tale to hear of parents abandoning their children when their powers manifest. To send them to the streets in exile, fearing what they do not understand."

The now dice-sized and shaped metal bits fall harmlessly back into the sand as he extends an arm from beneath the towel/robe covering him. On his exposed arm is a tattoo, several German characters along with a few numbers, faded and stretched though very distinct in his skin, as if they had been there for decades.

"If you are familiar with those from my world, perhaps you have heard of something known as the Holocaust. If you are not familiar with it, I would be happy to fill in the blanks."

"I'm more than familiar with the Holocaust, Mister Lensherr. It remains one of Earth's darkest times in the reality I'm from. However, it is also somewhat overshadowed by World War III, also known as the Eugenics Wars." Picard shook his head and sighed.

"Earth went through some of its darkest times before it got any better. It did get better, though."

Erik turns away. Picard is sounding more and more like Charles. A futuristic version of him albeit.

"After surviving Nazi Germany, and now the impending 'Mutant Registration Act', I fear that I am from your past. Humanity stands on the precipice of darkness. Mutants are becoming more and more prevelant with each day. Humanity is becoming a minority, and they are frightened, desperate... like a cornered lion."

He turns to look over his shoulder briefly. "That is not a world I wish for my children. It is for that reason that I fight. To build a place for them that does not fear them for what they are. Where they can exercise their powers how they see fit without the fear of being judged and persecuted because of something they cannot help... I only wish that things were different... and it did not mean pitting mutants against mutants."
