SHAMELESSLY STEALING IDEAS FROM HEDGE

Fleischheim. It's a bustling medieval metropolis, possibly a port or trade city of some kind, surrounded by massive walls. In the center is a fortress, the home of the ruling authority of the land. It's an old-tech place, one where people who claim to have magic are believed, for they may or may not be telling the truth, alchemists yearn to transmute lead into gold, and guards in chain mail and knights in plate keep the peace.

Your characters are now in this place, as visitors or citizens. If they're not human, they are now. If they're superhuman, then they're merely the stuff of legends here, be it through skills or amazing physical prowess.

Go.

He eyes her carefully, considering how much information is safe to release to a country that, while not an enemy, is not strictly an ally.

"My father has put this quest to me. I do not question his royal will."

Alright, Lafiel can understand that. She makes a decision, weighing risks and benefits. "The villagers in the Southron Sea claim to have seen a man fly and command the winds. Our observatory on Sfugnoff iceberg saw a great disturbance last week coming from the direction of Narrow Causeway."

He considers the information - she could be telling falsehoods, though from what he knows of her nation's honor, it is less likely than it could be. He nods. "On behalf of my father, I thank you."

He'll add those to his routes when he discusses them with his uncle tonight.

"How . . ." his uncle would encourage him to be social, in this setting. "How have your voyages been?" Ugh. Smalltalk.

Lafiel's dad would often tell her the same thing. She never quite got it though. "We have been engaged fighting the Merchant Guild's mercenaries and sank the SellSail frigate Kartsen. And...yourself?" She hopes he'll remember her information when he becomes FireLord.

He wonders if his nation was expecting trade from the Kartsen. It's been so long since he was home . . . how would he know?

"We are combing the southwestern coast for signs of the fugitive. Our intelligence last put him on the island of Kyoshi."

Which he very nearly burned to the ground . . . but word of that cannot have spread that quickly.

It can when you're a seafaring people! "Then you might be too late. I hear there was some kind of fight there and the island town was nearly burnt to the ground."
