Y'know Jamie, if I didn't know better, I'd say you actually enjoyed bein' serious.

[ Looks like the teasing still hasn't stopped. ]

What do ye mean, I enjoy being ser...hey!

[He still has his moments when he's a bit slow on the uptake. There's a bit of a grin once he figures things out, however.]

Not all of us can be wee balls of sunshine, aye?

[ Pleased with herself? I THINK SO~ ]

Maybe not, but it wouldn't hurt ya to try.

[Just you wait, Kaylee Frye. He'll get you back for that.]

Oh? And how exactly do ye suggest I do that?

[ Promises, promises. ]

Could start by smilin'... [ And she reaches forward to push up the corners of his mouth with her fingers. ] Looks better already~

[Oh, that makes him all sorts of grumbly, at least to the outward appearances.]

Och.

[However, there's that lopsided smile of his that is threatening to break through Kaylee's smile-sculpting. After a moment, he lets it.]

So what are ye working on at the moment? Anything I can help with?

Maintenance, trainin'. Got plenty of people lookin' to learn. None of 'em are even half as quick as others I've taught.

[ Yeah, that'd be you she's talking about, Jamie. ]

[There's a chuckle from him, then.]

Ye are just not going to stop trying to give me a swelled head, are ye, Kaylee?

Well, if ye don't have anything ye need help with, would ye want to do something else? I've been reading up on this wee thing called hang-gliding, and it looks verra interesting. Want to give it a try?

[ Look at that innocent face, Jamie. How could you ever accuse her of telling anything but the truth? ]

Might be. Ain't hurt you any yet, has it?

Hang glidin', huh? [ She thinks on it a moment. ] Y'know, I could use a bit of fun, and hang glidin' sounds like it could provide...

[Oh, he's a sucker for the innocent face.]

Aye, I guess it's not.

[He's genuinely pleased that she wants to try out hang-gliding as well. It's better with two. Still, he's curious, and even as he starts to head towards the Sensoriums, he may have a few questions.]

Have ye ever been before? Hang-gliding, that is?

[ Little finger? Check~

She seems pleased enough, headed for the Sensoriums. A break from work, with a fantastic friend, and trying something she's never done before? Not something that came up often on Stacy. ]

Can't say I have. Heard about it some, back home, but never really had the chance or the thought to look into it. Guess that's why I got you around, hm?

Aye, well, you're lucky I get bored...

[That's the crux of it, really. Even with everything he does on the ship, he still craves excitement. And during the downtime, there's little of that to be had. Hence, the research. He glances over at Kaylee with a vaguely sheepish expression.]

I suppose ye have a point.

Bored? I think it's nice you're so interested in everythin'. Opens up doors people never would've thought to look at, let alone peek into.

[ She gives him a friendly shoulder bump as they round the corner. ]

Ain't many people on this boat I'm even half so glad to know as you, Jamie.

[There's another glance over at Kaylee, and his tone is dry as he replies.]

I'm fairly sure there's a few other people around Stacy somewhere who are interested in flinging themselves off a cliff.

[He might be looking at one right now, as a matter of fact. Speaking of cliffs, as they head into the Sensoriums, the scene wavers and changes into a handy one, with a nice long strip to run and take off on. The smile he turns on Kaylee is quite warm.]

Aye. Same here.

[There's a pause as he looks at her for a long moment, then he makes himself turn his attention to the airstrip.]

Did ye want to try one of the motorized ones or the one where ye just run and jump?

Probably. But how many of 'em would actually take the action?

[ Oh, you bet. If there's ever the need for someone to throw themselves off of a cliff to save the ship, Jamie's definitely looking at the first volunteer.

She takes in the scenery with wide-eyed fascination, and takes a deep breath of the air before turning back to Jamie. ]

Either way, we're up in the air, right? Which are you more comfortable with?

With this lot? I can think of a few.

[Kaylee probably wouldn't be the first volunteer, though, because Jamie would likely be the first. Admittedly, it might be because he's fallen off the cliff by mistake, but it counts, right?]

Powered ye could go a wee bit longer but...

[Jamie doesn't seem as enthused with that as he is when he continues.]

I'd rather try the other type first, aye?

...got a point there.

[ Sure it counts. Not that anybody'd be really happy with it. Kaylee certainly wouldn't be happy with it, and she can think of plenty of others who wouldn't be either. ]

Non-motor it is!

[ Kaylee laughs. He definitely knows what he wants, doesn't he? ]

[It's not fun, and Jamie was not happy. At all. But that was then, and now, Kaylee gets one of those lopsided grins again.]

Glad ye agree.

[Oh, he does know. And that might very well be the reason why there is only one hang-glider there, although it appears to be deliberately crafted to be a tandem flyer.]

The information I was looking at said that ye should fly with someone else your first time out.

[He's just ignoring the part that says it should be with a certified trainer, because where's the fun in that?]

[ Given that Kaylee knows less about hang-gliding than Jayne does about engines, she's not about to complain about the glider, or about having to share. It's comforting, actually, to know that Jamie'll be right there with her. ]

Alright then, what's your information say about gear?

[ Helmet is obvious, but she's not really sure on anything else. ]

[He's going to be very careful not to act too pleased about that situation, juuust in case.]

Aye, well, the harness is on the glider, and then ye have the helmet, and goggles. Oh, and the parachutes.

[Which, hopefully, they won't need.]

And that's it, unless ye want to use some of the instruments to keep track of your height. Ye want me to think those up?

Alright then. [ The helmet (covered in little yellow flowers, no less) and goggles are in her hands within seconds. ]

Might be kinda interestin' to see how high up we are...

[ She's a little more curious about the glider itself, though, and walks around it like a kid would walk around the candy counter at a store. ]

Aye, it might be.

[He takes a moment to strap on his plain red helmet before coming over to take a look as well. Just because he thought up the idea doesn't mean he's had a chance to look yet.]

It's small, for a flying beastie, but it should hold both of us.

[Still, he picks up one of the parachutes and holds it out to her.] Here.

It'll do the job perfectly.

[ If only one could bottle that confidence. ]

Xie xie. [ To the parachute. She puts it on, checks and double checks the straps, and waits for him to finish doing the same. ]
