Traveling attacks can be seen in advance and are easier to deflect or dodge. They believe the element of surprise benefit outweighs the cost of extra power.

The Power is...complicated. Six coins were given to our mentor Zordon thousands of years ago. A seventh fell into the hands of the evil empress attempting to conquer Earth, Rita Repulsa. He kept those coins for thousands of years until Rita arrived, and then they were entrusted to us.

Each coin is placed inside a Power Morpher, a device that focuses the coin's energy. When it's activated, it taps into an energy biofield called the Morphing Grid that opens access to our powers. Once that's established, the energy has internal and external effects on us. Internally, we receive an energy boost similar to a rush of adrenaline and extra reserves of strength. Externally, energy released takes a solid form and replaces our clothing with the uniform. It's built of nanofibers that attempt to diffuse damage taken over a large area.

We have a vast underground network of tunnels equipped with rails to move the Zords at high speed. They usually begin moving toward the battle site as soon as the battle starts, since we nearly always need to summon them at one point.

This only applies to the land-based rolling models---others can run so fast that they arrive very quickly and cover a large distance with their size, and the flying models are fast enough to make it on their own.

Most propelled attacks travel too quickly to be dodged.

What kind of energy is it?

The show shows several Zords moving at low speeds when they are meant to arrive at a fight in a few moments' time.

The Power grants a speed boost and we all have peak reaction times, so it may be extra reassurance that nothing will interfere.

That I'm uncertain of. The sensation is similar to an electric charge, but it has properties that cannot be explained by conventional scientific laws. That leads most people to classify it as magic, but it may be something not sufficiently understood. I'll need to study it when I can.

That may be a technical limitation or a desire to make sure the audience notices the Zords and subsequently buys the toys. But they always arrive quickly---we'd be toast if they didn't.

The Power grants enough of a speed boost for you to dodge an attack moving at the speed of a bullet?

How can your opponents' leaders be heard on the moon?
morphitudinous: (No thanks)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2010-06-08 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
No, but our opponents usually don't use bullets, and lasers are largely deflected.

Have you listened to Rita? I'd almost believe that her voice could be heard from Pluto with no assistance whatsoever. Honestly, though, I think she uses a magic link to communicate with her minions on missions. She never talks directly to us unless she's also on Earth.

Aw, he got an answer sort of on his own. The mun might faint from pride.

[identity profile] mustbemade.livejournal.com 2010-06-08 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Why do they not, if lasers can be deflected more easily?

Then the show merely represents it as normal speech?
morphitudinous: (w/ Aisha: Study Buddies?)

Hooray!

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2010-06-08 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly don't know. They may see bullet usage as too mundane for them, since the humans of my time have no better method of killing each other.

And yes, it's represented as normal speech.

[identity profile] mustbemade.livejournal.com 2010-06-08 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
But it is superior to their own weapons.

That is extremely strange.
morphitudinous: (It's morphin' time!)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2010-06-08 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Villains seem to have an odd sort of pride. Rita and Zedd know exactly who we are and where to find us at all times, so they could easily choose to murder us in our sleep, but they opt not to do so because it would be too easy. The refusal to use bullets may be related to that.

For some, the thrill of the hunt is just as important as the eventual kill. They want to earn their victory.

[identity profile] mustbemade.livejournal.com 2010-06-08 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
But this is hindering their cause.

This somehow prohibits their using effective weapons?
morphitudinous: (Back of a head)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2010-06-08 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, because the most effective weapons would give them such a tremendous advantage over us that we would be killed in seconds. It wouldn't be very dramatic. They want to win, but we're also given a fighting chance.

If you've ever seen any of our rogues gallery, you'd know that they love dramatics. Lord Zedd may have been a Shakespearean actor in a former life.

[identity profile] mustbemade.livejournal.com 2010-06-08 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Could you not improve your weapons as well?

He had a former life? [He... doesn't get that that's a figure of speech.]
