beauty & the beast montage

One moment, your character was minding their own business, and the next? Perhaps they opened the wrong door, appeared out of nowhere, or maybe, in a decidedly rare occurrence, they were actually escorted. The choice is yours. Either way, they seem to have found themselves at a formal party.

Spread out before them is a large ballroom. The decorations look like something from a fairy tale; high ceilings supported by stone pillars, walls adorned with gold trimmings and white silk curtains, and a high balcony overlooking an ornate marble dance floor. To the far end, a special stage has been set up, where a small orchestra fills the room with classical waltzes. Overhead, a large crystal chandelier illuminates everything with droplets of rainbow light.

To the sides and on the balcony small clusters of people make leisurely conversation and sip champagne. Several busboys carrying silver trays can be seen taking and delivering drink orders, regardless of age. Several couples choose instead to dance; the most graceful tend towards the middle, while the more inexperienced do their best to stay in the places they will be the most unobtrusive.

Should your character choose to go outside, they will be met with clear, starlit skies, a cool breeze, and a lavish rose garden. Several small tables are set up, lit by candles, where waiters take orders for a full-course dinner. Some of course, choose instead to gather near the ever-present Cod Fountain. Several pieces of strange currency can be seen at the bottom of the fountain; it seems that it's a popular place to wish for happiness.

THE RULES:
-Your characters' clothing with be replaced with formal wear, though the degree of formality is entirely up to you.
-Don't go having epic duels and destroying the building and what have you.
-If you please, you can use NPCs, but you will have to write them yourself.
-Standard "DON'T BE DOUCHEBAGS TO OTHER PLAYERS" disclaimers apply.
-????
-PROFIT!

Eeee. Why is...ahll this? Is Kingh do come? Do Bee got to be in...too?

::Chitter-squeak. If there's some kind of national authority coming -- Oi, what would he...Right. Calm down. Breathe. There. Oh and he is so not giving a very brief, low-key but very thankful nudge::

Wha-t Bee do? Do Bee dahnts?

Katara looked up, recognizing the voice almost immediately.

"Nura, hey!" She said, grinning and giving the taller woman a hug. "Thanks, your dress looks really pretty too, I especially like the ruffles!"

At that point, the busboy arrived with a tray of champagne, and Katara took another cup, and clinked glasses.

"What is all this? Do you know?"
morphitudinous: (This is incredible)

Billy gives her a sympathetic look---been there, doing that. "Coincidentally, I'm sure, she told me the same thing. If you want some punch, uh, I'd be willing to..."

If she finishes the sentence it should count as both of them asking, right?

Katara walked toward Fate, grinning. She had no doubt that Nanoha would be after her lover soon, so she thought she'd walk over and say hi. She rather liked Fate, and though she teased the girl because it was easy, she was never mean.

"Hi," she said, twirling a little in her new dress (http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00wCjTUJnRSLcN/Prom-Dresses-Style-6816-.jpg). "I like your clothes, very modern! Why do you look so uncomfortable though?"

"No, there's no king coming as far as I'm aware. Perhaps some people who think of themselves as kings will attend, but this ball isn't for royalty."

Billy smiles and carefully nudges back, attempting to avoid anything delicate.

"I have to dance with a girl. I was dared to do so. But I have plenty of time to sit and talk if that's what you want. I'm actually curious about a few things."

Eeee, haow do dahnts? Is....Da-te?

::That earns a bit of a blush and a careful ear-flick. That headdress of his? Yeah, it's not going anywhere but still. The thing's as fragile as it looks::

Eeee?

"No, I don't have a date. Can you imagine me with a date? I've only had a few, and there's really no one I'm close enough to who isn't already taken or uninterested." Mei Ling has been forgotten about, of course.

"Come on, do you want to sit down?" He starts leading the way to an alcove where they won't be bumped into by passing dancers.

May-beee Rrrr-enne do Up-Hook Bee?

::He is of course, kidding, Billy. He knows zip about dating and other such things. Courting rituals of Humans? Yeah, no dice there. A squeak later and he carefully follows; his odd, swaying gait making his clothes, such as they are, flow and sway. And yes, they change colour in the light::

Nura lifts her glass to her lips and takes a sip. "I'm not really sure. I didn't predict anything like this. But then, the connection to the Dreaming isn't so strong here." She shrugs her shoulders, smiling. "But for a strange occurrence, it is one of the nicest ones, don't you think?"
morphitudinous: (Ninja: Wolf and Crane)

"Yes, dance. I accept." With a small smile, he takes her offered hand and walks beside her to the dance floor, where a new waltz is starting up.

"Have you waltzed before? I'm not the most experienced person here, but I believe I can handle the basics. The rhythm isn't as complex as I'd feared at first."
morphitudinous: (A majestic unicorn?)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2010-07-30 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"If I couldn't find someone to hook up with...well, I'm sure you'd think to search in places that I would always miss."

With a fond smile, he sits them down in the alcove. "You looked really uncomfortable out there, Renne. Have you had bad experiences at balls before?"

[identity profile] bluebrassmonkey.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Noh. Rrrr-enne noh be at Bahll."

There's a bit of a blush on his face -- is it odd for someone to admit that he doesn't know precisely how to act at a formal occasion?
morphitudinous: (This is incredible)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2010-07-30 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, so this is new to you. Well, you're not alone. Not everyone who comes to a ball is naturally talented at dancing or socializing. You can try those things, but there's also a food area, an outdoor area for quiet conversations, and the fountain for making wishes. Some people never even approach the dance floor!"

He smiles. "Not all of us are from worlds where these functions were common, and even if they were they may not have had access to them. It's okay."

"Oh, I didn't mean prediction-wise," Katara said. "I was just wondering what you follow custom-wise in places like this. I've only been to a party like this once, and even then we were captured pretty soon afterward. We didn't really get to enjoy it. But I like it a lot!"

She took another sip of the champagne. "Why do people choose to drink beer instead of this? It's much nicer, don't you think?"

She ran a hand absentmindedly through her hair. "It's the perfect setting for a dance though. Bet you could someone to dance with here, Nura!"

She gave her friend a wink.

[identity profile] bluebrassmonkey.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Eee. Do Bee know? Do Bee do...this?"

His voice is kept low but there's a tone of curiosity beginning to overlay the nervousness. You have a massive effect on this formally dressed little thing, Billy.

"I'm not either, so you're in good company. Or maybe equal company is the better word---it won't be good if we step on our toes, which I shall try my hardest not to do."

He smiles, trying to exude confidence, and takes one of her hands above her shoulder. Another hand gently rests on her waist, and friendly distance is maintained. He doesn't want to scare her again.

"Your other hand can rest on my shoulder. We'll start when we're ready."

"I attended dances at home, but rarely was I invited to an event this formal. It's pretty simple to follow the rules, though. As long as no one ruins everyone's fancy clothes or the scenery, it should be fine."

And he has full confidence that Renne won't do either.

Fate finally looked away from her tie, a bit surprised that someone approached her so suddenly.

"O-Oh, hello!" She said, offering the other blonde a smile.

Miku wasn't sure if the dress (http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00EvVQeqnPZYom/Birdal-Gown-Wedding-Dress-Wedding-Gowns-SD022-.jpg) in question was a good one for her. First of all, it was white. That was unlucky, and only really good for priestesses, snow women, and brides. She wasn't any of the above, sadly.

Still, with her hair loosely curled around her shoulders, and the smooth shift of the dress as she walk, the inner 8-year-old princess felt rather pleased. She held off along the wall, and couldn't quite shake the feeling that the glitter-spewing Cod Fountain was all too familiar.

"That's it! You'll be okay, I promise."

Billy's quite serious about that. He doesn't want his friend to feel lost or worried anymore, and he'll do whatever it takes.
