Alex laughed merrily, "those people must be c-crazy, to have trouble getting along with you!"

Katara shook her head. "I wasn't known for keeping my profile low, remember? I made a few enemies after the Yeerk thing, and when we went on the mission to recover the seat of the ship, I wasn't for stringing up Lex Luthor. I tended to not be on the better side of some issues, and that made me kinda unpopular."

Turning around to face his wife he smiled sadly, "You were always trying to do what's best for everyone. You were never selfish, at least never when it mattered, and even then everyone deserves ta be selfish every so often. Any good person could see that, and they should be able ta get past what you've done. Even the people like Lex Luthor, if they could see past their own shadows, they'd see that you'd have done what ya could ta help even them."

He embraced her- the fillets could fry for another minute without his interference- "You were always on what side you saw as right, an' never let anyone push you around. If they c-can't see the beauty in that, then it's their loss." He held her close to him and said softly, "It's one of the many reasons I love you, dear."

"I wasn't always like that," Katara protested, "even when we were on the ship. I wish I always made the right decisions, that I always stood up for what I believed in, but I faltered a few times, mostly with my teachers. A part of me, like you, still wanted to be liked, especially by those I really cared about. But I did try to see the good in people when I could, and when I realized I wasn't standing by my beliefs, I corrected myself later. It's all a part of growing up, of reeling back and finding out what's most important. I just had a long time and good people who made me remember that."

She quivered a little here. always taken aback when Alex took the initiative, always liking it since it was that part of himself that really made him shine. "I feel the same way about you. Some people might have thought you were broken, but I saw the strength in you the goodness there."

She took his face in her hands, caressing his cheek. "And I've never looked back."

"I think you did the best any human could have, and if others c-can't see that and accept it, than it's their loss." When Katara took his face Alex went furiously red, sending even his ears into a deep flush. He smiled, to show he wasn't offended, just incredibly embarrassed, and turned back around to flip the food.

"I was broken, ya know. You just... managed to help me pick up some of the pieces."

She turned to him and gave him a grateful smile. She wasn't someone who fished for compliments, but when she did get them she was happy to know that someoen could see that she was always trying to help when she could. It may not turn out how she originally planned, but knowing there was someone in her corner made all the difference.

"Thank you," she said, taking a personal pleasure in making Alex blush as much as she had a moment ago. "And just so you know, as long as I'm here, I'm never going to let you be like that ever again."

"Thank you K-Katara. It means a lot." He leaned back and nuzzled Katara, glad to know that she was going to be there.

A few minutes later the fillets were done, and Alex plated them, "do you want to get the movie started dear?"

She nuzzled him back. She meant every word, and couldn't begin to describe how she felt the day she thought he might actually perish because of her. She had seen Alex in a variety of ways, and she had always thought of him as a good, cautious person, but when he actually had saved her, things had changed. She saw him as someone capable of being loved and loving back deeply.

"I'll try," Katara said, "but you know how bad I am when it comes to technology. It should be simple, I know, but buttons doing all the work...its just weird to me."

Alex laughed, and smiled "Well, do your best, love. I'll be right in, an' I'll give you a hand if you need it."

Teaching Katara to work electronics was certainly proving a challenge, but all he needed to remember was how patient she had been when teaching him how to swim.

Katara wasn't necessarily very bad at technology: she was just not very likely to use it and Alex tended to usually turn on and operate the electronics in their household.

She fiddled around with the remote a moment before finally switching the input to High Definition and getting the player to work before there was now a movie playing on the screen.

"Got it!"

"Hurah!" Alex laughed a bit as he walked in carry two plates with napkins tucked under his arm, "not so scary, right?"

She gave him a piercing look, then stood on her tiptoes and ruffled his hair. "No it wasn't Mr. smart guy! Next time I'll actually go crazy and program the DVR and the video games!"

She laughed after this though, and kissed him.

Alex laughed, returning the kiss. It had taken a long time for him to be able to do that.
