I'll not be volunteering to go anywhere anytime soon after this. [Trust him, this one was strange enough to last for awhile.] Hopefully Stacy'll not decide otherwise.

[He peers at Billy, noticing the tiredness, and assumes something went wrong. It always does, it seems.] What happened while I was gone, then?

I hope not. I'm hearing bits and pieces about the mission, and...I'm sorry. I don't know what I'd do if we lost you all permanently. But you were strong enough to make it, I knew you'd be.


[A darkness falls over his eyes.] Renne was repodded immediately after you left. I've mostly adjusted by now, but it's been rough.

[It was rather closer than he'd like, and he'll not be playing the bagpipes anytime soon, but he nods.] Stacy would have figured out something was wrong eventually and found a way to have the rest of ye come for us.

[At his friend's admission, he looks quite surprised, then reaches a hand out to grip Billy's shoulder, offering comfort.] I'm sorry, Billy.

[morphitudinous]

[Quiet oath.] I would've been furious. How dare he tamper with you all that way. I'm glad we didn't have to interfere, but...I wanted to.

[Tries to smile. He appreciates the comfort---definitely missed that about Jamie while he was gone.] You're lucky you didn't see how I was up until two days ago. I was weighed down by a shadow so powerful that I lost sight of my goals. I almost gave up entirely before Alex ate it and restored my higher brain functions.

I don't want to fail to acknowledge what I have before it's gone again, so...thank you, Jamie. You've helped more than I can say over all this time.

[Jamie doesn't know about Alex's ability to eat the shadows, or even that they exist, really. It's never come up in conversation. So Billy gets an odd look.]
