[The Doctor has a briefly surprised look on his face before it breaks out in a smile. He can't say he doesn't like surprises. The Time Lord turns and grins at Kaylee]

[ Wait what is this?? Kaylee looks at the purple a moment, shrugs, and takes a swig. ]

Not bad? All right, so it's a little on the warm side, but I was aiming for "excellent" or even "brilliant".

[Squints at the glass of Purple he has with him. It looks neither excellent or brilliant; it does manage "okay".]

[ Well, it does have a bit of a nice glow to it, even if that isn't exactly what she means by shiny. Huh. ]

["Shiny" might actually be more than that specific glass of Purple deserves but he likes it much better than a boring okay]

[ Hint: she would. But that's because everything in the 'verse deserves a chance to be shiny, from the grumpiest of Cap'ns to the smallest cup of Purple. ]

[The Doctor fixes her with a look, still smiling to himself, and the look is a little too long and a little critical, like they're not just talking about a single glass of Purple]

So! New Years party, plenty of Purple, and shiny. Ready for that year coming up? [He starts to take a sip and then holds out his hand] Right, almost forgot. I'm the Doctor.

[ See, he gets that, somehow. Most people around here don't. For someone she doesn't know past a quick kiss and a drink, he actually understands that she's not always talking about outer appearances.

Can only hope I am. Lookin' forward for all the mechanical 'n social challenges Stacy's got in store for me this year 'round... [ She trails off as his name registers, and she grins wide as she takes his hand. ] You're back! Well, not you, a different you, but--

[He shakes her hand. Like a good hug, he likes a good hand shake as well.]

Kaylee. Lovely name, Kaylee. Loads better than Stacy, rolls right off the tongue. [He pauses] I'm back? I don't think I've ever been to this particular party (until now), but...

No, I'm sure I would've remembered, even three faces ago.

Kinda fond of it myself, 'n it's better than goin' around as Kaywinnit like my ma named me.

[ She shakes her head, perhaps a bit more enthusiastically than necessary. ] I meant back on the ship, but they were others of you...it's complicated. People pop 'n repod all the time here, and they don't always remember, but...

If you don't mind my askin', is this an older you or a younger you?

Kaywinnit? But -- [But that's an ever better name! The Doctor is about to say just that when she goes on to talk about this ship.]

Depends on your definition of older me. Which ones came before me? [He could go down the whole list - grouchy, bowtie, Bessie, etc., but it'd probably be faster to just get it from Kaylee]

Before you...nerdy, springy bit of a guy, wore suits 'n tennis shoes, 'n then there was an even younger one, blond, liked candy colors...been others, too, but they're not stickin' like they should.

Probably has to be in the pods. No telling what's been built into those without a closer look when you're actually conscious.

[The Doctor grins back] Funny, not many others seemed to like it. Something about it being an affront to humanity or burning eyes out.

Stimulator of some kind, maybe. Stacy's got us all linked to her somehow, 'n all I can think is she's got some nice little stimulatin' bug in there someplace rootin' about where it don't belong to take away memories she don't think we need.

Everybody's got their own personality to bring to the table. Can't hardly see judgin' anybody based on their clothes, seein' as I'm wearin' patched up coveralls more often than not...
