"Oh, I see!" Katara said. "That explains it! Where I'm from is usually very cold, so our skin is used to somewhat harsher conditions. It took awhile to get used to so much heat though, with it always being ice and snow."

Oh that. Well, that tended not to sound as girly. "Well, I do work out a bit, actually. I do yoga every morning, and every other day is usually reserved for some gymnastic training or swimming in the pool. It's worked out to keep me pretty strong and lithe."

If Katara is put off by her effeminate male company's demeanor, she certainly not showing any signs of it. If anything, she seemed to be more comfortable.

"Hey, maybe I could show you sometime, and afterward we can totally do each others hair? Oh, and you have to try the spa if you haven't already!"

She doubted he hadn't though.

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-03-03 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
"That actually sounds great! And no...I haven't been to the spa, but now I'm dying to go. I could sooo," he dragged the word out to an unnecessary length, "use some R and R. Ugh. Taking care of that wolf all the time- he can be a TOTAL slob."

Nokosi inspected his nails with a grimace, "And alchemy is not doing anything positive for my nails." A short sigh, "If only I could wipe one hundred and forty years off this body to be so young again."

He covered his mouth politely and laughed, "But I suppose someone has to be the 'old maid' around here. Might as well be me!"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-03-03 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, we have to go!" Katara said, laughing and idly toying with Nokosi's hair. "It feel like it just takes years off of you, you have no idea. Um, now taking care of the wolf: do you mean that literally? Its not some slang for something else?"

If it was, she didn't think she wanted to know what it was slang for.

She inspected his nails, then tutted at the last thing he said. "Oh come on, old maid? I totally want to look as good as you do when I get older. YOU know what will happen when a human ages, after all. You still look so pretty!"

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-03-03 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Slang? No, no. Literally!" He waved his hands in explanation, "I'm a Hunter, you see. The wolf, Fontaine, is my companion. Or 'pet'; whatever you want to call him." He knew well that Fontaine hated that word. If he were around he would have been glaring at the elf indignantly.

He smiled graciously as she inspected his hands, suddenly wondering why he cared in the first place. Most of his time was spent outside exploring, building traps and shooting a bow. The state of his hands should have been no surprise to him and definitely not warranting the attention he now payed to them.

The elf regarded her with a sincere smile and placed a hand over her own and patted it. "You are so sweet, do you know that? It's a relief you know, all the things I heard about you were true."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-03-03 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really!" Katara's eyes were wide. "That's pretty amazing! I mean, we have wolves on the ship, but they travel in packs, and most of them can turn human I think. I have a companion like the one you're talking about, in a way. It's a space dog we nabbed a few trips ago. Her name is Zhin, and she's much more than just a pet."

Indeed, Zhin had been closely monitoring her since Aang had come back.

She flushed a little. "Oh, well, thank you! I-wait a minute, your name is Nokosi, isn't it? Aren't you friends with Billy and Ronnae?"

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-03-03 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Space dog? He wanted a space...some kind of creature. In the least, Fontaine would be happier to have an animal companion since they all blew up with Azeroth.

Blew up with Azeroth. His world's destruction never got him very moody before but now he felt like bawling about it for other reasons than the loss of his companions. Luckily Katara distracted him with a question and his frown quickly perked up to a large smile again.

"Oh yes, I am. Those were the friends I was speaking about. Oh! And Beastboy as well," Nokosi explained, nodding sagely.

"I was told you were the leader of a group fittingly called the Outsiders." He waved a hand, "Full leadership duties and you still manage to look so cute. Somebody is a master of multi-tasking, I see!"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-03-03 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
She flushed. "Oh, Beastboy. He really gives me too many compliments, and he's a horrible flirt! Not that it isn't flattering: as far as guys go, Beastboy is a good one, I can tell. He's the type that would be loyal to you no matter what."

She flushed. "No, there's still so much work to do, and Beastboy helps me a lot, I can't claim all the credit. That, and he's actually been in a full on team, I'm still learning the ropes. We never had anything quite like that where I'm from: we were just very powerful benders, and my brother was a genius tactician. This is definitely different."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-03-03 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
So modest. How adorable.

"Hm, he did tell me about the team he was on. It sounded exciting! It's good to have someone with so much know-how assisting you, though I can hardly blame him for flirting with you."

He always did enjoy having a conversations with strangers, even with as odd as his thought...speech and mannerism pattern had been so far. Maybe he was delirious. Oh well. It could be fixed later.

"What's a bender?" Nokosi playfully smacked himself in the side of the head, "I have enough trouble grasping all the terminology from Azeroth. It's been a ball trying to understand all of it from others' worlds."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-03-03 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
She would have argued that it wasn't modesty, just the truth, which in fact would likely have been proving the point.

"He used to be in Teen Titans, so it definitely made sense for him to be co-captain. Our trouble is just really managing the team and getting all the training together. Beastboy is also really good at team building activities, better than me since he's more of a modern team member. My world is definitely less advanced."

She flushed at the compliment. "I'm...all right..." she mumbled.

New Subject! "Where I'm from, there are normal people and there are benders. Depending on where you're from, you're born knowing what element you can bend. I'm from the Southern Water Tribe, and I'm the last of the benders there who haven't been imprisoned. For instance."

She looked at the tea and lifted her fingers. The tea jumped in the air, and Katara started wiggling her fingers. It started to move around like a slime substance, and then Katara brought her hangs together, and the tea froze and fell to teh floor, shattering.

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-03-03 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Everyone he knew sure did blush a lot. Maybe it was a teenager thing.

When she began manipulating the tea, his eyes lit up in wonder as if he'd just seen a shooting star. "You can control liquids? That's pretty amazing!"

She was like a specialized spellcaster, then. Except one had to be born with the ability. That would have surely made the Dragon Aspect of magic happier if Azeroth were the same.

"That seems like a very practical ability to have!" He twirled a braid between his fingers, "Along with the tremendous benefit it holds, I'm sure I could think of a thousand inane uses for it, too. So..."

He leaned forward, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Dish, Katara. What is the most inane thing you use your water bending for?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-03-03 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It was more of an embarrassed thing, and while not something Katara did often, she had her moments.

She nodded. "Anything with water in it, I can control. I work in tandem with my element though, and its requires discipline and knowledge in its arts, but yes, I can. The human body is the most difficult though, and requires a full moon, since benders get their most power from the moon."

She made a face, but grinned. "Well, I have used it for spas and stuff like that. I do believe in certain comforts when I can get them!"

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-03-03 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh? My people are empowered by the moon as well." He waved his hands at himself and smiled. "Night Elves and all."

"But really," he started, finishing off the liquid in the mug. "I can't blame you for it, sweety. Comforts are hard to come by in this place! Got to get them," he snapped his fingers, "quick when you can or miss the opportunity."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-03-04 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Really? That's amazing!" Katara said. "What sort of powers do you have? For us, whenever there's a full moon it means that we're at out strongest, and our power is formidable. What ca it do for you?"

She nodded. "Oh, its pretty wonderful, but I have to hand it to Billy to make the bathhouse idea come to life! Sure, I gave him the idea and helped him with it, but he's the one that conceptualized it, made the plans and was able to implement that. I really admire that about him."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-03-04 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
"We can see perfectly fine in twilight and almost as well in total darkness. Increased agility, stealthiness, and heightened senses are also a benefit during the night time. The guardian of our people is known as Elune the Moon Goddess so Priests naturally have exceedingly stronger spells when in moonlight," he explained.

Nokosi ran his finger around the edge of the mug and crossed his legs. "Not surprised to hear about how much Billy helped you, honestly. Kind, intelligent, considerate and adorably awkward. He's really the best type of man, isn't he? Ronnae sure did get herself a catch in a lover. It's almost enough to make one jealous," he laughed, waving a hand.

This was going to be a terribly awkward story for his friend, later.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-03-04 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Wow," Katara said, actually very much impressed. "That is pretty amazing. We have the agility and strength and all of that, and we also have gods that make up the moon and its spirit: Tui and La, the human gods that reside in the Spirit Oasis in the Northern Water Tribe."

She smiled. "Billy is someone I know pretty well, actually. You could say that he's my spirit brother, a person I never knew until we started to learn about each other by various circumstances. I saw all of those qualities you mentioned, and hoped that Billy would find someone that cared for him. I was skeptical at first though, since Billy sometimes put duty and efficiency over anything else. And then Ronnae came and changed all of that...I think the both of them are pretty special."

She smiled quietly to herself. It hurt a little, to think that this happiness wasn't something she'd have for herself, but for the two of them...she;d make sure she'd do whatever she could son they could be with each other.

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-03-04 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Two sides of the same coin, those two. Ronnae has informed me of some of the 'adventures' you three have had. It sounds quite fun." He uncrossed his legs suddenly. Since when did he ever sit like that anyways? Uncomfortable.

"I could say much of the same about Ronnae as well. Through many circumstances we met and became close, despite our different factions being at war with each other. She's like a sister to me now, but you wouldn't believe how many times she turned me down over the course of one year, before."

Welp. That was usually something embarrassing to admit, wasn't it? He certainly didn't feel embarrassed or...bothered by it in the least. Looking down at his hands, he was getting less and less concerned about their uneven and knick-filled state.

"It was for the best, destroyed planet aside. They're very much alike and I think they're the perfect people to erase each other's trouble-filled pasts." He paused and regarded Katara with an earnest smile. "I am also very glad of your friendship with her; she desperately needed someone on the ship to relate with."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-03-04 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Adventures? Really? She giggled a little at that, then remembered some of their events. The Outsider's hotel. The marriage planet. The aftermath. Walking on on a bathing Ronnae.

"Ronnae is one of the most unique people I've met," Katara said. "She's very different, and very private, but she is loyal and strong. I believe she's very focused on what she wants, and if that includes Billy, she had every reason to get him too. They need each other."

She didn't think he had any reason to be embarrassed. If Ronnae was interested in something else, then she was. And he understood that too. She liked that.

"I thought that too. Billy, you see, has had his share of sadness. People lost, things like that. And Ronnae came, and I could see he was just different around her. He sensed that vulnerability she had, and loved her for it. Billy can be timid, but when it comes to the people that need his help, he will be strong, courageous. Ronnae appreciates that, as I do. It's sort of fated we all would meet."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-03-04 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
"You are right, of course. With the heavy weight of our current circumstance bearing down on everyone, I thought that perhaps the people here forgot that happiness can be found in the smallest of things. I am glad to see that is not always so."

Fate? He never put much into thoughts such as that before but given the way the Titan's worked, it could be so. Azeroth had barely escaped destruction more than a few times already. Perhaps knowledge they gleaned here would help ensure the Burning Legion were kept at bay.

Thinking about the foes his planet faced reminded him of...

"Katara," he said suddenly. "Might I ask a favor of you?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-03-04 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
She shook her head. "No, its sort of the opposite. We NEED those reminders, those things that people think are small. They aren't. In the end, we need those things to remind us that we're still able to be strong, that there are others that need us. That kind of strength isn't a small thing."

She knew that sort of talk about fate was sort of strange, but she couldn't ignore certain things. She met Aang, they fought against impossible odds to be brought here now, to try and help save the last safe places in these galaxies.

The Ohm had to be defeated.

"Huh?" Katara started. "Oh, yes, of course. What did you need?"

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-03-04 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
He didn't think anyone needed reminded that there were many no-longer existing people that needed their aid, it's what usually got them in a mood. He could appreciate someone talk about their home world cheerfully, though. It wasn't something he'd come across too often.

"Make sure Billy doesn't over-think things too much, will you? He has already confessed his disappointment and heartache at their eventual separation. He was quite dejected by it all." Nokosi gazed at Katara impassively, though his voice rang with sincerity. That had to mean that he was already feeling like his normal self, again.

"I will admit I had already thought of this for her sake. It is an eventuality that both will endure whenever the time arrives, however, this is not the time and I do not wish for his mind to be plagued with such hardships, given the things he must already endure."

Nokosi stood slowly, pressing his palms together in front of his chest and bowed low, his ponytail dragging on the table. It was customary for his people to act in such a manner when both requesting and giving aid.

"As you are his sister, I humbly ask that you keep his mind on the journey and not the destination so that they both may forever smile."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-03-04 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara made a face. "Really, why would he be thinking about things like that? It's taken him long enough to find happiness, and he's already starting to wonder what will happen when he and Ronnae separate? I mean, who says they have to at all? Honestly, he needs to be focused on how good that feeling is, to have someone that cares so much about him!"

She ought to know....just as she knew why Billy would react this way to begin with. There was still that ache in not having his friends, and the pain they both shared at losing Renne. But Katara was not about to let Billy think about what was going to happen down the road: now was the time for him to be happy with what he had.

"I agree, and I'll try to make sure that the both of them are staying positive in whatever they do. Billy is someone I see as my responsibility, and if there's anything that I can do to make things better for him here, I'll do it."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-03-04 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Annoyed because her friend said those things? An odd reaction to him but he'd seen stranger things in his people-watching days.

"Thank you, Katara," he said, smiling. "I'm glad that we were able to speak; your company is very pleasant." The elf bowed low again.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-03-04 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Normally she wouldn't have been snippy about Billy's reservations at all: she understood why he would be feeling that way about Ronnae and what losing her would do to him. but after what happened with Aang, making the best of what you had was important, and she wanted Billy to be happy.

And if SHE had any say in the matter, she would make sure that Billy would be with Ronnae, no matter what happened. They needed each other, and honestly, she cared a lot about both of them.

She gave him a similar bow. "I'd say the same for you: I heard Ronnae and Billy mention you before. I'm glad to have met you, and I hope I see you again in the future."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
"As do I. I think I would enjoy if we could all four share a conversation over tea at some time. Until then, do take care."
