[She offers her hand and smiles, but it's still slightly tinged with confusion. He's...strange, but no stranger than she is.]

May I know who I am speaking to as well?

Starfire huh? That's a pretty cool name.

Me? I don't have a name. Just a number. I'm 779. You can call me whatever really.

[He shrugged]

Thank you! [And she's giggling, thinking of a name when she calms down.]

Shadow's cool. Shadow it is Starfire. So what is it you do? I just got to this place.

I am a warrior. I simply fight when we need to fight our way out of a crisis, and I try my best to help others feel welcome here. It is a difficult place to be in without friends.

So a fighter huh? That's pretty awesome, for a girl like you to be a combatant. [He smiles] Not that I haven't seen my share of gifted girls and such, it's jus' always an impressive sight.

Sounds like this place is as hard to live in as the academy. [He said to no one in particular.]

All of my people are warriors. We train to defend our planet and each other from childhood, but..we failed this time.

[She sighs, looking curiously at him to take the attention off herself.]

The academy?

[He looked back to her and smiled a bit awkwardly.]

Ghost academy. I don't remember my stay there. They say they erase our memories once we leave the academy so we can't have hard feelings and such. But I had to infiltrate and destroy a rogue one for a mission. If they were as bad as the ones I grew up in... I'm glad I can't remember my life there then.

[He shrugged, tucking a cigarette on his ear.]

Starfire floated close to him, sadly offering him a small hug. "I am sorry. I cannot imagine so much happening---I was enslaved once, but nothing was that cruel."

Ho boy. RUNNNNN!!!!!!

He returned the hug awkwardly, friendly affection was odd to him.

"It's no big I guess really. The government was going through all means necessary to defeat the Zerg. But fighting them on so many different planets was impossible. Tho for once I sorta wish they were here. I have no doubts they'd give the Ohm a piece of their own power. It would certainly keep both swarms occupied till they destroyed each other."

Starfire nodded, floating back and---huh? What the?

Swarm incoming. Violent swarm incoming. Starfire leapt to life, her eyes glowing green and starbolts flaring in her hands.

"What is happening?"

"Shit shit shit! It's the Zerg! Run! Get to an alley and box them in! Don't stay in the open specially in the air"

Just as he said that a flurry of Mutalisks flew by and shot hundreds of acidic bolts their way. He rolled out of the way as his eyes flared up. Slowly a combat suit started materializing around his body. He slung his rifle off his shoulder and started blasting at the incoming swarm as he ran, much much faster than any normal human could.

"Stick together or they'll pick us off!" He called after Star hoping he wasn't too late.

"Right!" Starfire rolled as low to the ground as she could, defending herself as well as possible with a flaring starbolt shield. She couldn't avoid a few injuries, but she'd survive them.

She flew low to the ground at his tail, almost appearing as a snake slithering on the pavement.

"COVER YOUR EARS!"

Hoping the girl would follow the command, he unstrapped a sonic canister grenade from his suit and tossed it at the incoming swarm, lowering her visor as he did to avoid the effects himself.

A second later, an enormous soundwave exploded around the incoming zerg that were near the grenade, rendering those nearby it unconcious and those that were farther away disoriented.

He knew that wouldn't hold them for long, but it would give them enough time to get out of their path. He grabbed the girl and bolted to the side, in between alleyways and wall jumping to one of the top rooms in the abandoned building that had a window open. Once inside, he created a visible shield around them and sat bad with a sigh.

"What the fuckin' hell are the Zerg doing here?"

Starfire did so with a yelp, urged onward to clear the affected site. She simply let him take her to safety, strength sapped by the ordeal. Luckily she'd recover more quickly than a human would.

"Before they arrived you wished that they were here. I...do not believe they can be commanded against the Ohm" she sighed sadly, curling to protect herself from further harm.

"Yeah well remind me later to wish for the lotto number yeah?" He added a bit bitterly before noticing the girl was shaken. The Zerg after all were quite the terrorizing sight. Equal to the Ohm in ferocity, numbers, and relentlessness.

He pulled her over and hugged her to him protectively. "If I was a stronger psychic I could control a good portion of them. Sadly I wasn't trained in hive mind control. But don't worry, this shield will avert them from our position while we recoup and figure out what to do okay?" He lifted her face to his and his mask pulled back to reveal a comforting smile.

Starfire made a small squeal of protest, but otherwise she seemed fine. She relaxed into the embrace almost instantly, making a promise to herself that she'd be better prepared to contribute next time.

"I am stronger than that," she sighed. "This time I will fight prepared."

He smiled at the girl and gave her a reassuring wink.

"Right on, I'm certain you are, after all you are a warrior right. Right now it was better to retreat and assert the situation. The Zerg fight in huge swarms, and for looking like mindless beasts theyare immensely clever and intelligent, mainly because of their hive mind."

He pointed at a floating creature that resembled an armored brain with tentacles and a dangerous maw. "See those? Those are Overlords. They relay orders to the swarm from the higher commanding Zerg. Kill one of em' and they'll be a bit confused. Kill enough of em and they might even turn on each other."

He moved to the window, and braced the large rifle on the frame. Taking careful yet quick aim, he placed a single accurate shot that made the Overlord blow up from different parts of it's body, floating lifelessly to the ground. Below the Zerg in the are looked around as if looking for the assailant, some even lingering around not doing much of anything other than idling about.

Starfire nodded seriously, peeking out the window and studying the Overlord. "A focused attack, then. I understand! We will strike quickly?"

He nodded back, "On my cue." He stood at the window frame, slinging the rifle over his shoulder and grabbing onto the side for support. He launched one more sonic canister at the swarm that was heading down the street as he nodded at her.

When the grenade blew, he leaped to the next building and then wall jumped to the roof of the one they were in. He quickly deployed a defense drone to impede incoming Mutalisk attacks as he started sniping Overlords one by one.

Starfire nodded, crouching low and bracing herself. They could do this. They would survive. One, two...go!

She flew low over the rooftops, taking cover behind chimneys and sniping with her hardest-hitting starbolts, thin and focused.

One after the other the Overlords started falling, sending the Zerg troops into disarray on the streets. More and more Mutalisk squads started appearing, bombarding the heroes with hundreds of acidic bolts.

779 ran as he sniped, still exceedingly accurate as he hit every one of his targets with fatal precision. Soon, the effect of his and Starfire's assault started creating chaos within the Zerg's ranks, members of each type starting to lash at one another, tearing each other limb from limb.

"Take this moment to fall back! They'll be in turnmoil for a while but not forever!" With that, he started dashing from roof to roof getting farther away from the growing swarm.

Starfire twisted in the air with a tiny smile through the pain---it was impossible to avoid every single blow, but she would be fine eventually.

She followed orders, flying low to the ground behind him with all possible speed.

Once they were far away from the swarm he settled near a warehouse. He looked to her and quickly went over her wounds. "You're pretty amazing Star, I can totally see how you are a warrior."

He unstrapped a box from his thigh and opened it revealing several tools and vials. He popped the top of one of them pouring a very cold liquid over her wounds and massaging it in. Soon, the regenerative effects of the salve would heal over the wounds and make her as good as new.

"You alright?" He asked concerned, his visor rising to look at her.

Starfire looked away from him, a little red glow on her cheeks. "You are superior by far," she whispered, sounding happy all the same.

She was even happier to be healed, lying still for the treatment and launching into another hug when he was finished. "I am now, and you have my thanks."
