Just a wish don't do that, Jamie, we been workin' at this for some months now, and--

[ His hand on her face is enough to quiet her for the moment, and she lets him have his words. The 'could' cuts deeper than anything. He does love her, she knows it, but...

But nothing. There's a beat, right after his next wish, and then Kaylee's blinking at him confused as ever. ]

...y'alright, Jamie?

[For what seems like a small eternity, he's almost afraid to move, to even breathe too deeply, while questions run through his mind. Did the wish even work? Does he dare to ask her? What happens if it hasn't? In reality, it only takes him a few seconds to think these, and a few more before he lets his hand fall back to his side.]

Aye. Aye, I'm fine. Kaylee, what were we talking about just now?

[Turning away from her, he starts to walk down the corridor, as normally as he can. It's not until he's out of sight from her that he lets his shoulders slump and some of that guilt he's feeling show on his face. If he had only realized...but he didn't, and now he has to learn to live with what he's done.]
