[ Jamie seems a bit down himself, so Kaylee doesn't make any move to pull away. Besides, it's nice to have someone lean on you occasionally. Shows they aren't afraid to. Her work, unfortunately for Jamie, isn't very exciting at all, just the insides and wiring of some piece of Stacy's engine that she's been toying with. ]

You try talkin' to him at all? Sometimes that's all it takes... Might not hurt to get him to take five minutes off'a work, neither.

[Clearly Jamie hadn't thought of that, and his head immediately cranes upward to check. The rest of him doesn't move, though, because...this is oddly nice.]

No. There's nothing like that mistletoe up there. Besides, if GLaDOS was behind it, she'd say so.

I've tried, believe me. He's a wee bit stubborn about taking those breaks sometimes.

[He leans his head against Kaylee's for a moment. This is quite nice, really. He's missed getting the chance to do this.]

You're better at getting him to do that than I am, Kaylee.

Tell me about it. Beginnin' to think it's a theme of the department. I ain't much better, but I can see if I can't at least sit him down to eat 'n chat. Might help a little.

[Jamie's arm shifts, so that rather then his hand resting on his shoulder, his arm's draped over it more companionably.]

Look, is there anything I can do? I...I just don't like the idea of ye working so much.

[Billy sighs, leaning on Jamie just a little. Why is this so comfortable?]

If I'm not busy, I become trapped in my thoughts about all of this. It isn't a fun position to be in.

"The Northern Tribe? But I thought they didn't teach their girls waterbending." Nima's eyes are bright with curiosity. "How did you convince them? Or did you run away?"

She grins - she loves stories of rebellion. The ones that don't end in setting nonrebel buildings on fire, anyway.

She snuggles in closer to Kaya, settling in for a good story. "How about I go next? I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours." In the meantime, the water tribe girl is warm and cuddly, and hasn't pushed Nima off yet.

Stupid bickering is pretty funny.

[She rests her cheek on top of the younger girl's head, gently rubbing her back and enjoying the closeness. She misses her little sisters sometimes.]

But avoiding tentacles is one thing - what do you do for FUN here?

"Hee!"

There's a sudden strong gust of wind, and Nima is floating briefly in the air, but about to fall out of it - a gentleman would catch her in those big, strong arms.

[Enjoy your sweet lady-kisses, Jamie, because Nima sure is.

She breaks away to smile at him.] I'm Nima, by the way. What's your name?

[She hasn't let go of his waist yet.]

"On all of us."

Having let slip this admission of unhappiness, he sighs and pats Eva's hand.

"I would not speak long on my sorrows." Not with anyone he knows on the ship. There's one he WOULD air his sorrows to . . . but she isn't here. "We have a war to win, more than a past to regret."

Still, by the way he hasn't let go of Eva or pushed her away . . . It's probably clear he misses his clan a lot.

[He sighs.]

Am I really so transparent?

[Well, let the squeezes be returned. Gargoyles are tactile, social creatures, and though Alastirra is still a near-stranger, she seems more familiar than many of the other non-gargoyles on the ship.]

"Whatever you're comfortable with, big guy." Her family may be the reigning champions of bottling it up and moving forward. She pats his hand back. "I'm not going to go around playing therapist if you don't want it. That's just be rude."

"And tell me how much that knowledge helps. I'm betting not much."

She bites her lip. "I don't want her to end up like Marco, awful thing as that is to say."

"I take no offense."

He sighs once more and hangs his head.

"There is one I would share my sorrows with, but she is not here."

"I know the feeling." She breathes heavy through her nose and sinks a little into herself. "But you've been getting along alright anyway, we all have."

No one has ever accused Chase of being a gentleman. However, catching hot chicks in said big, strong arms is still part of the job - and a part he especially likes. She's duly caught [and maybe groped in the process, just a little.]

"So, we haven't been introduced, and that just ain't right. I'm Chase."

"Oh they teach themn bending, but only the healing kind," Kaya explained. "Granted, I wasn't the first one to defy them, but I was the first to do it and be trained by someone from our nation. Master Paku hadn't wanted to train the Southern Water Tribe girl Katara either, but he couldn't deny her skill. When I left my tribe, I went to join the infamous Avatar crew, and it was Katara who taught me how to use waterbending as an offensive and defensive style. Unlike the people of my tribe, Katara learned by scrolls and fighting fire nation soldiers, not to mention the swamp benders. Once I learned around the GAang, I couldn't go back to my tribe. I still wrote to my parents, but there was so much to be done, so many Fire nation insurrections since Princee Zuko became Firelord. I had to help."

She flushed, but didn't shy away: she did feel comfortable with the airbender, she was like Aang but somehow with a little more danger to her. "Now its your turn!"

This was...weird. She didn't usually let people get this close, and despite how pretty she was, Mindy usually had boundary issues. That, and well, rubbing her back was bound to have her feel out some of the scars she had there. But she put up with it because it did feel a little nice.

"Well, there's the pub the Drunken Dragon and the Sensoriums. If you wanna feel all zen, there's Hydroponics bay, and there are PLENTY of places in the city to party, especially if you pop into Awesome World. It's like, a whole carnival."

Whichs he had actually enjoyed quite a bit.

It doesn't help one bit. And... I don't blame you. He's still your son, even if he didn't turn out the way you wanted him to.

[He snorts quietly, the expelled air ruffling her hair.]

[Funny, he doesn't seem to be making any moves to leave. In fact, he slips an arm around her. All the better to cuddle with.]

Maybe we should do something for his birthday, too.

OfcourseIhave, it's just...a little sudden. Coming from someone I've known for all of two days.

[Jamie does not know why he is tolerating all this snuggling from people he barely knows, but tolerate he does. Even if it's probably going to make him feel weird afterward.]

...yeah, sure, I guess. Where d'you wanna meet?

[Strangely, Jamie doesn't seem to mind. He does shift slightly so he can talk a little easier. Never mind that it means he's getting dangerously close to invading Billy's personal space.]

There's got to be something else ye can do to take your mind off of it other than work, though.
