Don't stay late tonight.
It was rare for her to be so cryptic, too. For the rest of the day, he tried to think of what it could possibly be about, and even asked Slith if he'd heard anything interesting from the twins. His general had looked confused, and shrugged, "Nothing. Whatever it is, it can't be that important if all she sent was a note."
Agreeing, Kang had left for a meeting with Granak, the last thing on the political agenda for the day.
He was a little surprised, and worried, when he got home and his mate fixed him with a very serious look as soon as the door was shut. "...I got your note. Is something wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong," she said calmly, though her expression didn't change. "I just have some news that I didn't want others overhearing."
"Fon?" Kang was obviously confused, closing the distance between them to put a hand on her arm.
She was silent for several seconds, holding his gaze, and then she grinned, "I'm gravid."
Sighing in relief, he snorted, "Don't scare me like that, I thought it was something - what?"
"You know that thing that tends to happen when males and females have sex?" Fonrar sounded very amused, leaning up to bump her snout underneath his. He didn't move, frozen. "Well?"
"You're - are you sure?"
She rolled her eyes, "Yes. I wouldn't tell you if I wasn't--"
Kang didn't let her finish the sentence, wrapping both his arms and his wings around her in a tight hug. Laughing, she returned the embrace as he bumped her snout.
"I didn't want to distract you from your work, but I didn't want to wait any longer than was necessary to tell you."
Grinning, he loosened the hug just enough to look at her, "Do you know about how far? I haven't noticed anything different." He glanced down at her stomach; all the females that had been gravid so far had gotten a little bigger, but nowhere near as big as pregnant humans or elves.
Fonrar shook her head, "Not very far, I don't think. We've got some time yet to prepare."
"...I can't believe this is really happening. We're actually - we're going to be parents. Have you - do your sisters know yet?"
"Of course they do. How do you think I made sure? They're the ones that confirmed it," she laughed. "And yes, you can go ahead and brag about this. I know you want to."
