"maybe," she said softly, "but I didn't know this would happen. It seems like every time I look around, I'm waiting for someone to come back. And it's always that special someone, that person that makes a difference so thoroughly you're forever changed."

"..." What could he say? Really? Shagon and Matt were two different people, and yet the two sides of the same coin. He briefly wondered what Kaya was thinking about him really.

"Neither did I," he said with a sigh. "If I could give up my existence for his, I'd do it. In a literal heartbeat. Being incomplete all this time is just as painful for me as it is for you."

"I wouldn't have you do that," Kaya said. "You have a right to live too. I would never be that selfish. I just wish I could have him see me, hold him and talk to him like we used to. I wish nothing but happiness, for both of you."

Shagon sighed a little, looking over at his sleeping light. He was so very still, it almost looked like he was still dead. But that wasn't the case. An enchanted sleep was just as hard.
