[And she can see it in his eyes as he brushes the back of his fingers against her cheek. That smile hasn't gone away. It's a pretty goofy smile. It fades a little, though, as he says:]

[What had Makoa said? The islands weren't big enough for his spirit, but it was more than that. After she was gone, after he'd visited her grave the first and last time, the islands hurt too much. The memories of her were there in the sunshine and the feel of the sand between his toes and the sea breeze. He'd had to make Cadmus his home, then Kansas, because Hawaii could never be home again.]

[There's something guarded in his expression after he says that like he's trying not to think of sad things, and trying to not let her know he's thinking of sad things, but he can't help thinking of sad things with the happy things. It all comes bundled up together, the happy and the sad, because the bliss that comes of being with her like this is contrasted and magnified by the grief he had from losing her.]

"I thought we discussed this," Billy answered just as sleepily, loving the sensation of her warm weight on him. "You're the sunshine here, Ronnae. I'm just basking in it and enjoying the lack of UV radiation."

For his part, Billy didn't look that much more 'together'. His hair was just as wild after all that excitement, ending up in a really silly pattern that stuck out everywhere. More obviously, his body bore several marks that hadn't been present the night before. Absence made the heart grow...wilder. But he was relaxed, very happy, and content to stay in bed, all traits that were rare these days.

"How're you feeling, beautiful? Still sore?"

[And that left Billy...cold and lonely on his end of the bed. He can't just leave like this! Time for a risky mission: to get in there and gently get his stuff back. He slowly rolled toward her, trying to penetrate her pillow fortress.]

[He was at her side, where it was no longer. And those pillows were comfortable, he could see why she had them. Wait to see if and how she was disturbed by his movement, then phase 2.]
