Ronnae was still as timid and shy as ever, but with a much nicer background considering this world was different. She still has bright strawberry red hair that falls to her lower back which she keeps loose or in a long, high ponytail. She's currently in her first year of college and is trying to avoid the crowd in a small cafe around the corner from the dorms.

Her bright teal eyes focused on her laptop, cute red framed glasses adorning her face as she sucks on a cherry lollipop.

"Oh, uh, sorry." Zouichi pushed his glasses back up his nose, feeling a little self-conscious. "Wasn't watching where I was going, I guess."

Soren was an employee in the research and development division of a prominent pharmaceutical company, specializing in Alzheimer's research.

He spent his weekends at the local bookstore or library, attending symposiums, catching piano recitals, and so on, but took public transportation everywhere because he refused to drive. He was on a train right now, in fact, reading a copy of The Mismeasure of Man by Stephen Jay Gould.

He was still kind of a snobby jerkwad.

The seat next to the young man with the book was still free, and Ann really wanted to sit down. She'd just replaced her work shoes, to go with her work suit, and they weren't quite broken in yet. Standing on the train was going to be uncomfortable.

As soon as the train was moving steadily, she leaned over him. "May I sit down?"

Garreth may be pursuing a degree in library science, but that involves reading absolutely everything, especially historical things involving warfare. Kang is one of the few students Garreth can talk to about these pieces of literature from a soldier's perspective.

And fortunately for Kang, Garreth has a high-school age daughter who makes an excellent babysitter. And when Angela isn't available, the library is a good second home, bad neighborhood or not.

His childhood and adolescence had progressed largely identically to Billy's---initial geeky interest, a lack of social graces, and enough bullying to fill several more lifetimes. One incident, in fact, had been so severe that he no longer wished to be called Billy. That name had lost its warmth in the trauma that followed, so 'Will' was now the town inventor.

Without the Power Rangers driving his purpose to war and crime fighting, he's taken a different tack in life: having graduated early as he always should have, he's working his way through an engineering degree as the head inventor of a brand new enterprise dedicated to reinventing old products. The custom 'communicators' (wrist-worn cell phones) and specialized entertainment sets for vehicles are his most popular items.

The quiet young man could often be found running to and fro, always grabbing a new part and offering a helping hand. There had always been a 'hero complex' component to him that he'd never quite been able to explain. If he comforted enough bullied kids, wired enough homes, or said the right thing...maybe he'd be able to save the world.

Strange thoughts. He dismisses them with a shake of his head and gets right back to work on the park's new weather analysis tool. The cutout of a rooster that tops it is tacky, but somehow necessary.

Ronnae had been running for a good five minutes now but it seemed her pursuers were not giving up the chase considering she decided (very stupidly she thought) to try and lose them through the park... which was damn empty this time of day.

She was afraid that screaming would give away her position to them and help wouldn't arrive in time to stop them, not knowing that they already knew where she was and were on hot pursuit.

Once she noticed they were right behind her a few feet away, she bolted and tripped, right in front of the weather analysis tool with a hard thud and a small yelp of pain. This was it wasn't it? She'd get robbed, or beaten or worse.

[Not much changes. Mami's in middle school, a member of the Student Council and several other clubs, and gets straight A's. She's a model student, someone the younger girls look up to, and she should probably belong to the popular crowds in the school social circles, right?

Wrong. For all her smarts, she's a loner. She more or less lives lives on her own, taken in by distant relatives who are never home after her parents died in a terrible car crash. She never spends time with the other club members, and she can always be seen walking home alone as soon as said clubs end.]

Garreth Wyvern, not-quite-former Coast Guard Captain and current member of the reserve, is pursuing his master's in Library Science. He's in the enviable position of already being a librarian while doing so.

It's possible he got the job because the position is in a notoriously bad part of town, and you would be challenged to find a buffer librarian. Outside of encouraging the kids to read (he mostly just has to put the books in front of them and give them a Look) and breaking up fights outside the library (lately he hasn't had to do that as much), he focuses on mentoring his multiple younger foster brothers, all of them pursuing military careers, and his relationship with a local policewoman is just this side of becoming an engagement. Things are going well for him.

As a fellow former soldier, and secret lover of poetry, Mal tries to stop by the library when he can get away from his job. Not only does he not run the risk of having his reading interrupted by those he knows, but he enjoys the conversation Garreth offers, and the occasional chance to break up fights by people unwilling to respect library etiquette.

Today, however, things seem pretty calm. He thinks he might actually finish his book.

She's that girl. The strawberry blond (you're fairly sure she dies it, or else she spends just that much time in the sun, which seems impossible, but her hair's just the oddest strawberry blonde-auburn-red-whatever it is) who gets the seat in the back of the room because you were goofing off one time too many, and the teacher knows she's paying attention. The teacher's wrong. She read the material already. She's sitting back there doing homework and still piping up with answers in that almost-smug tone that seems to say See? See what I know?

Yes. Yes, Sakura Haruno, we do see what you know.

She knows the head cheerleader. She argues with her over calculus of all things, though it breaks down into jabs at each other's love-lives. They do this at least once a week, and she still swears their enemies. "Ino? We don't talk much." But you know they call each other on the slow afternoons between her evening classes to "get ahead" and the kickboxing lessons she picked up in middle school.

Which is another thing. She was always a goodie two-shoes, teacher's pet, or by now it seems like it. Those few years in primary school don't stick out in memory anymore, when she was just another teased little kid with confidence issues. It's hard to see those now, with all that drive and energy to a life-goal she already seems set on.

"What do you want to be when you grow up?"

"I'm going to be a gene therapist with a secondary degree in psychology."

Especially when she says all that with a straight face.

None of that seems to matter right now, as she sits in the local coffee shop where the not-quite cool kids stop my sometime, in one of the less pristine parts of town. She's got some kind of fancy tea latte, sipping at it while leafing through a book from her night classes at the local community college. Ishmael or Bobtail or White Teeth or maybe even Portnoy's Complaint. Her kickboxing studio's just down the street a block or three, and she's got some time to burn before it's back home and back in time with her parents and her own expectations.

Oh yeah.

Howard, on the other hand, is that underachiever.

The one that all the teachers know is smart, because he figured out how to use the equipment in the chemistry lab to make a cherry bomb and shut down the school for a three-day weekend.

The one that all the security guards know is somehow involved with the drug culture, but who seems almost smug to be taking the occasional urine test.

The one who scrapes by with exactly a 70% in every single class, who somehow 'tutors' his friend into getting an identical 70%, but who can't be proven to be cheating.

The one who works at Best Buy but almost definitely steals from Gamestop.

The one who's never dated but always knows about a breakup before the participants do.

The one teachers can't say they've failed because hey, he somehow got into a good business school, but they can't say they've helped because he didn't seem to pay attention to them at all.

Not influential enough to be a wild card, not helpless enough to slip through the cracks, and almost certainly using his stop at the coffee shop to steal from the tip jar.

The cafe's full, so he takes a seat next to that strawberry blonde girl. "You mind if I sit here?"

He's a twenty year-old business major planning on dropping out of college before the next billing cycle demands his tuition. It's not that he can't afford it - he can - but between the fact that he's palming Sudafed from his part-time job at the pharmacy and how quickly he's getting promoted at the autoshop he's worked at since he was sixteen, he doesn't see the point.

He doesn't even need to hound his best friend/roommate for rent anymore. He just quietly lets it slide and pretends he doesn't smell the open bottles of alcohol.

Right now he's out front of the autoshop taking a five-minute break, having just told a customer that they should buy a $600 braking mechanism for him or risk their child's life, even though he knows full well that he could make $600 worth of improvements to those brakes with a nail-file and slinkie.

Matthew O'Connor, or as he's going by these days, M-Cat/Swizzle/Lil Sketch/O'Conman/The Matt Attack/The Mattster/DJ Two-Bit/Lil M/Matty Matty Bow Wow/Mattsterbator/Skittles/M&O/Cartridge/DJ Thunderfuck (pick one), is in a good mood.

Despite being nearly a week behind on rent (DJing at clubs and rap battles are more glamorous than they are profitable), single yet again (which means Flora will give him a pity booty call within the week), and having gotten expelled from his third art school (apparently interpretative dance to Fuck the Police did not meet his Performance Art teacher's idea of a final exam).

He has an action figure in his pocket, a can of spraypaint, and headphones blaring Ludacris. He hangs out under a bridge, perfecting his tag - which looks suspiciously like a superhero emblem.
