Okay, rocks fell, everyone died. Too bad, valiant meatshippers! But the good news is that you've all be reincarnated!

Maybe you're waiting at a coffee shop, and you spot someone out of the corner of your eye that looks strangely familiar. Maybe instead of strangers from universes far apart, you and your close CR are now childhood friends who have always been together. Maybe you meet a former enemy as a friend, or a former friend is now a bitter enemy.

Wow, she sounds kind of excited for some reason. Maybe she's in the middle of something.

"Um, tonight? No, I didn't really have anything planned out. On weekends I go to the museums sometimes, but it's more like a hobby."

Well. Did you eat already? D'you want to go out tonight? We could catch dinner or a movie, or something? I mean, if you were interested?

Wait, what? The questions are so unexpected that he pauses for a moment before trying to answer.

"Uh, sure, I guess so." Zouichi actually goes to the theater a couple stops away from the university pretty frequently, and he knows the area reasonably well. "Um, do you like Thai? I know a place with good satay."

It does not actually occur to him that she's asking him out on a date.

It sounds great! I don't think I've ever had it before, but I'm still game for anything. When and where do you want me to meet you?

Zouichi checks his watch. "Uh, how's five sound? You know, at that theater at the Central stop? We can check theater times, grab something to eat, and get back in time for the show to start."

He will freak out. Slightly.

Sounds great! But don't be too worried if I show a little late, I'll be cutting it close with class and bus times. Do you have a cell phone? I'll call or something if I miss a bus or something.

"Huh? Yeah, um, do you have a piece of paper?" He gives her his phone number without really thinking about it.

"Oh, don't worry about being late or anything -- I always take my sketchbook with me. So, see you then?"

[And after she hangs up, she's probably startling her floormates by the happy squeal that can be heard up and down the hall.]

Well, that hadn't been what he'd been expecting at all.

A couple hours later, Zouichi was waiting at the theater. What kind of movie did Allie want to see, anyway? She hadn't really been specific. Actually, why the sudden invitation? ...Maybe she was just really friendly?

[She did end up running just a little late. Luckily she only was a little disheveled and out of breath after jogging from one bus stop over. And waving!]

Zouichi waves back; it looks like she's in one of those casual dresses, and which he's never actually seen her wear before. It's very flattering.

He smiles. "Nice timing. So what kind of movies do you like?"

Too bad he's just wearing black as always; looks like somehow he's a little underdressed. But they're just going to see a movie, right? It's not like a d--

[Allie is nothing if not all smiles, and leans over to give the art major a quick peck on the cheek.]

Um, I like chick flicks, cartoon stuff, comedy...Kung Fu Panda 2 is out, that's cute. Did you have something you wanted to see?

That takes him by surprise; he ends up blushing a little. Is this a date? This is all moving pretty fast, and it's not like he hasn't run into girls before who showed up interested in skipping several bases with him. But if she wanted that, then she would've picked a different venue. Right?

"Um, that sounds good, I guess. I didn't see the first one, though. Should we go to the one at 7:10?" He's not too interested in Green Lantern, anyway. Really? Van Wilder as a superhero?

You sure? We can see something else if you want. [Allie's still all smiles, now.] But if you don't mind, 7:10 is great. And you don't need to have seen the first one, I'm pretty sure. But I liked the first one. Took my little brother to see it when my dad was too tired to.

He smiles back. "No, it should be fun. I think, anyway." He goes up to the counter, fully intended to buy both of their tickets for them. Even if it's not a date, it's only polite.

"I didn't know you had a little brother."

I do. He'll be a freshman next year, but he's not sure if he's going here or someplace else on a football scholarship. His name's Zack. He wants to be a geologist. [Allie hops a bit in place, hands tucked behind her back.]

Does this mean I get to pay for dinner? Or popcorn or something during the movie?

[She might be thinking more "date", but that doesn't mean that she's going to let the potentially poor art major empty his pocketbook!]

"Huh?" He blinks. "Oh, that's okay. I can get it. I mean, I'm the one who called you, anyway."

A football player? Hmm. She must mean American football. Sometimes it was a little hard to tell, since some countries called soccer 'football', too.

Zouichi. I asked you to call me, that's not fair! And art supplies aren't cheap! Come on, please? I'm not one of those kinds of girls!

[By which she means the ones who try to use their male interests as a personal cash cow.]

Well. It wasn't everyday that a girl asked him out and wanted to pay for things. As much as he'd rather pick up the tab himself, it's hard to say no to Allie.

So he nods. "Okay. Then I'll pick up the tickets and popcorn, and you can get dinner?"

That sounds fair! More than fair. [He gets a decisive nod, and a grin, and she tucks her arm in his.]

So, show me where this Thai restaurant is? Do you go there often?

Allie is so forward; he has to keep from squirming a little in surprise.

"Yeah, um. Whenever I'm in the area." He starts walking with her, arm in arm. "So if your brother's coming here, too, does that mean you live nearby?"

No. We live in Texas, but I'm here, so Daddy thinks it's an option, since I don't seem to want to go home. Much to his annoyance. He wants me to do preliminary pageants for Miss Texas. And I don't care about that. If I break into acting, I want it to be because I'm a good actress, not because I've got a pretty face, y'know?

[As bubbly as she's been, this is something that actually makes her sigh.]

Maybe it's just 'cause he misses Momma, but we all do.

"Yeah, I guess I can understand that." Allie talks about the pageants matter-of-factly, almost as if they were part of everyday life. Maybe in Texas, they were. Or maybe Allie was merely as unusual as she seemed.

"What kind of actress are you trying to be? Movies? TV? Theater?"

[She shrugged at that.] I think I'd really like Broadway, but I guess that depends on whom I impress. I'm trying to get a well-rounded education, but I know only a fraction of aspiring actors make it. Which is why I'm actually being serious about my minor, so if it doesn't happen, I can come back and work on a degree in botany later.

He smiles a little. "I think you'd make a good actress. You have a lot of... presence? I think that's what they call it. Anyway, I didn't know you were in botany, too. Do you do a lot of field trips?"
