Jr. is ... actually 12! Born and raised in the Yuriev Institute and experiencing nothing outside of the facility. He'd be somewhere in the timeline between meeting Sakura and before tons of emo crap with her and the war, so his training is kicking it up a notch. He's happy but not exactly so, due to sheltering but also due to the effect Sakura has started to have on his view of himself and what he is. His name isn't Jr. anymore, though. He introduces himself as U.R.T.V. Unit #666 ... or Rubedo, as many default to call him when given the alternate.

Basically you'll get a cute bb bioweapon boy with some blooming identity issues who's nervous about where the hell he is and omg you guys did our last dive just go super wrong again what is this. D8

"Hello, Rubedo." This version of Zouichi was still a little out of practice at speaking with those he was not already familiar with; a couple centuries of minimal conversation will do that to you.

"Did you find anything interesting at the bazaar? They seemed to have a larger selection of weapons than the last shore leave destination."

Rubedo was still awkward around other people - used to the company of his own brothers, the scientists at the Institute, and the occasional visitor to their father. Waking up on Stacy still felt unreal to him, and he sometimes wondered if it was simply just a surprise test to work his skills. Or rather, that was easier for him to believe.

He shook his head slightly. "No ... not really." Weapons didn't really interest him much. What they were to Rubedo were things they needed to use when they fought, so it was best to learn how to use them-- which he did, but gazing at them as he walked around didn't catch his fancy. He only had one item that came with him from home, anyway, and he made sure to keep it on him at all times. At least until this test was over.

Since it was just a test. He'd wake up soon at the Institute with his father observing the actions he took inside.

Zouichi was... admittedly not great at talking to little kids. But he tried.

"I see." Maybe this planet was too boring for children or something. "Well, they do seem to have a fairly wide variety of activities. I thought I would try fishing. It probably wouldn't have been possible back on Earth, and I understand some find it quite enjoyable."

"Fishing?" He looked thoughtful. "I've never been fishing, before..."

Zouichi smiled at him, though he was a little rusty at it. "Would you like to come along? The guide mentioned there were fish as big as 100 pounds in the lake. I don't know if it's true, but it would certainly be an adventure to catch one."

One would have to wonder what an 84lb boy could do if he managed to snag something 16 pounds heavier than him. Rubedo looked a mix of excited but hesitant, as if he were unsure if he should go, despite wanting to.

"Do you think it'd be okay...?"

"I don't see why not, unless you're planning to sink the boat."

Rubedo was tiny!

Another quick shake of the head. And now that he was agreeing to it, a small smile curled onto his lips.

"Okay, then!"

Zouichi headed toward the direction of the dock, motioning for Rubedo to follow. Well, at least he was smiling. That was good, right?

It was a cool afternoon; a faint breeze rippled the otherwise glassy surface of the large lake, sending a cascade of light dancing across their vision. Now and again, there was a faint splash as a fish leapt out of the water, only to disappear back into the lake. A large wading bird turned its heard toward the two of them as they grew closer, then resumed looking for its next meal.

At the pier, a man handed Zouichi some equipment, some bait, and motioned to one of the small boats. He thanked the man and hopped on, grabbing one of the oars. "Have you ever rowed one of these before?"

Rubedo simply stalked behind him quietly, blue eyes darting around to get looks at everything around him. Real or not, they were still things he'd never seen before.

"Wow..." he muttered when they approached the lake, clearly entranced by the sight. He almost didn't even hear Zouichi speak to him at first, and ended up double-taking when he realized he had.

"... No," he answered.

Zouichi nodded. "All right. Just step in carefully so you don't tip it over."

Although even if they did, it wasn't the end of the world if they got wet.

But not screwing up was something Rubedo was raised believing he shouldn't be doing. So he did just as Zouichi suggested and carefully climbed into the boat.

"All right, here you go." Zouichi handed Rubedo an oar, demonstrating how to use it just in case before he pointed to a shady spot a little farther off, near a grove of trees. "We can head over there first, and if we don't catch anything, we'll move to the next spot."

Something that hadn't changed was how much Zouichi seemed to like nature; there had been so little of it left on Earth, and on the Recreator, none at all. Today, in the warm sunlight, surrounded by the sound of water and the occasional calling bird, that all seemed so far off -- as if he'd been able to put some distance between the past and the present.
