Billy | Power Rangers Zeo
This Billy was rescued sometime during the battle against King Mondo, during which he was little more than a repair boy to the active Power Rangers. His closest friends all scattered across the globe, the friends on the team no longer treating him as part of their group, and a certain feeling of hopelessness had all taken their toll---especially when he could not take on the power of the the Gold Ranger. As a result, he'd transformed into someone rather different than the Billy who was the Blue Ranger.
As a crew member, he knew his place: repair, outfit, and serve the active warriors. It was the little he was valued for and good at. He'd seen morphing devices similar to his former power and been mildly interested in them, but the Gold Ranger incident had been discouraging: he didn't think he could ever wield a Power again. Something was now wrong with him, and...maybe he'd never been suited for it in the first place.
He had fewer friends and certainly fewer girlfriends (zero) than the more active and confident Billy of the other world, fearing that they would inevitably leave him. The few he gravitated to were others who were pure mechanics and medics who toiled behind the scenes. Most of the warriors were kind, sure, but he envied them. He missed being among them and always would.

Everything going okay? You need my help for anything? You should come down to my lab sometime, it'd be awesome!
[Because certainly some things don't change and Billy works as hard in Engineering as he ever does...if not more so nowadays...]

[This is tired Billy peeking out from under a pile of projects.]
But I can come by later if you'd like. I could always use a change of scenery, you know?

I mean, I'm not busy, so it's not like you're gonna take away from anything if I hang here and help do stuff...

[That's a trace of a smile.]
Food and drink have to wait for the break room, though. This machine is delicate.

[And Stephen nods at that.]
That's why I left my thermos there. Lots of things are too sensitive around steam.

[Billy is serious and working and seriously working again. He makes noises of frustration here and there.]
This armor's just about done. It just needs one more shock point added, thankfully.
Goliath | Directly from the Wyvern massacre
Yet this technology is still an asset in his new goal of protecting the castle that is all he has left of the clan he lost. Goliath has no close friends among the department of engineers, but the quiet repairman called Billy has a humility about him that the gargoyle respects. He is a loner among his people, and that makes his company more tolerable, for all that they are both alone in the crowd that is this crew.
The gargoyle does not have to use Billy's name to make his presence known in the Engineering department. He ignores the other engineers and goes to the human's station, presenting his damaged communicator.
"I would be grateful if you would see to this matter for me."
His diction, ever formal, is not unfriendly. Goliath is rarely unfriendly with anyone. But then, he is rarely friendly with any of the crew's humans either.

"How did this happen?" It's a question Billy always asks, just in case the answer reveals a design flaw in his own work. Next time, perhaps he can make it stronger. Luckily, he thinks with a small twinge, communicators have always been something of a specialty of his. He could probably repair this in his sleep.
"If it was the heat again, we've just obtained a new metal with a higher melting point. I'll see about integrating that."

Occasionally getting thrown across a room by an Ohm grunt is a common hazard among the warriors of the crew.
"I do not need it until my next mission." He doesn't use it for recreational or casual purposes, not when everyone he talks to can be reached in person. "If I hear of one in advance, I will notify you."
no subject
"I'll reinforce it for you, then. There will be a limit on how strong I can make it without damaging usability, but I haven't reached it yet." His goggles are on and he's quickly checking over a list. Nothing too bad yet.
Missions are a strange part of life on Stacy. As a noncombatant he's not often chosen, and he's usually worried when he is, but so far he's come out alive---with the little strength all that martial arts training had left him, a well-wielded gun, or the protection of someone else. He never liked that last one.
"We've just disembarked, we can't be that close to another planet yet. Nevertheless, I'll hurry. Unpleasant surprises are all too common around here."
no subject
"That is true. Then I will return in time close enough to a week to check your progress."
Billy could deliver the device, but Goliath does not, under any circumstances, allow humans - or anyone else - in his castle. There have been arguments upon this point, but none he has yet conceded.

The deck wasn't one of Billy's favorite places. It meant missions, actions that he might've been well suited for once. But no longer.
