The "How Would Your Character Die" Thread

A thought that was thrown around in chat was "How would your character die, theoretically, in game?"

So, morbid topic though it is, it's kinda an interesting one to throw around. If your character were to die in game, what kind of send off would you want to give them? How would they go out? What would they think about it?

Go nuts!

[identity profile] gogopowersuit.livejournal.com 2009-08-31 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh gosh, this is surprisingly fun to think about.

Samus is a tough cookie. She wouldn't go down easily. The only way I think she'd die is taking a shot for someone else. She's too much of a protector to let say, one of her teammates, get into trouble. Granted, she'd rather not die taking a bullet for Grif (:P), but she'd rather go than have another death on her shoulders (she already blames herself for enough). Her last words would be like "Doctor do you think it could have been the sausage?" "Let me," or "Get away" or maybe even something she said that morning or before the epic fight. She's not really talkative.

Mei Ling, I don't want to think about ;_; She grows up and becomes a really old lady reciting proverbs to everyone she meets and dies peacefully in her sleep the end. Her last words would be a proverb about having a long, happy life or... something.

Indy lives to ripe old age and then tries to go on an adventure when he's 101 and then breaks his him or something. Haha I don't even know. If he did die on the ship it'd have to be something like... awesome. Fighting 100 Space Nazis and he takes down 99 and then on the last one they like... fatally injure themselves simultaneously or something. I'm rambling now. I dunno what his last words would be.

Pikachu tried getting up. That last blast from Ridley had taken a lot out of the Brawler, and he could feel it. Still, the Pokemon picked himself up, shaking off the grogginess from the previous attack. Giving his eyes a moment to adjust, Pikachu raised his sights to Samus, hoping his friend was okay.

He saw Ridley towering over the young woman, raising one massive clawed hand to strike her down. "P-pika!" the yellow mouse called out, his legs buckling. There was only a split second before that blow landed, and without her armor, there was no way the wounded woman warrior could survive it. Steeling his resolve, Pikachu did what best friends do.

Rushing after both fighters, Pikachu brushed aside the pain, ignored the dizziness that threatened to bring him down. "Pi! Pi pikapi pikachu!" he cried out. Both fighters stopped, distracted by the sudden call. It gave Pikachu just the time he needed, using a hastily charged Skull Bash to knock Samus aside, just as the claws came down.

Following shortly after her was a small trophy of the electric Pokemon. It hit the ground with a soft clunk, rolled, and then was still.

MORBID POST IS MORBID

[identity profile] warriorraceguy.livejournal.com 2009-08-31 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
The Chief:
If I were to kill off the Chief, that would be a HUGE decision for me. He's special to me. But if he were to go out, it would be due to a conscious decision on his part. An "I am going to die doing this, but I have to do this because if I don't no one else will/people will die" decision, doing something important to protect the others. This would be a bit of a priority shift for him and show how far he's come, really. His driving goal right now is still GO HOME because ORDERS SAY SO above all else, though he's starting to form connections to people and will probably never notice how much they start to affect him. He'd realize it right then.
I can see him being blown away entirely with there being nothing of him left behind, but if he were to have last words it would probably be like "Get out of here, dammit! GO!" or something like that. DO NOT WASTE THE SECONDS HE'S BUYING YOU, DAMMIT! THEY WERE SPENSIVE!
I would also probably cry. >.> Just sayin'.

Bella:
Bella's an Ahroun, that's a high-mortality profession right there already. If she were to die, she'd go out in a blaze of glory in Crinos form with a war yell for Gaia. And he kill count would be awesome for that fight. Honestly, it's a possibility I might kill her off. And she'd go out fighting and roaring and bloody and loving every second of it. Bella was born for war and she would go out in battle.

Jack:
If I were to kill Jack, he'd have to die a hero. Jack hates good. (Or at least, he's really loud about saying that.) If Jack were to die it would be in a heel-face turn, doing something heroic and good and completely against the evil tennets he's held for so long.
His last words would probably be something like "I'M STILL EVIL, SHUT UP! D<".

Grif:
I'd rather not kill Grif. I have plans for him. Though it would be amusing if Tex finally managed it, or if he finally mouthed off to something that he couldn't survive.
Still, probably not going to kill Grif. He's too lazy to get a badass death. :P

Sharp Tongue:
Sharp Tongue... I'm not sure what I'd do with her. Haven't really thought about it. O.o Hold this thought?

Vega:
Oh man. Vega. Vega's a kid. It would probably hurt the other meatshippers if he were killed. And it would probably be an accident on his part. He'd overestimate himself, charge into something before he should, get cocky for a moment and slip. Most likely in his Zoid, given the choice.
It would be a there one moment, gone the next thing. Sudden, sharp, maybe a split second to realize his own mistake.
I would also probably cry for him too. >.

Leon would die to taking a hit meant for someone else, if that was the only way to save them. Otherwise, he's not dying ever.

Lex Luthor will be immortal. He will refuse to die out of sheer spite.

Hellion would go out in a blaze of glory, literally. Like he'd be in the middle of some massive explosion, either causing it, or containing it until his last breath.

In six words, an experimental attempt

I'd be super unlikely to ever kill off Claire, as she's pretty much my special girl, and to do so is like, really really hard. Girl has some kind of amazing luck. She's also really selfless when it comes to those she wants to protect, though, so she'd go out protecting someone else from harm. Likely with a lot of fighting involved, because unless it was like, a really cut and dry situation, she wouldn't go down without one hell of a fight.

Scarlet, has already died once in her canon, in a really effing cheap way, so if I were to kill her off here, I'd want it to be a lot more significant. holding off something dangerous to give others time to get clear, or like, just going out in battle would be good. Anything but getting surprised in a pitch black subway tunnel and clubbed to death by her own rifle :/

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2009-08-31 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting scenario! Now Katara is my only character, so I wouldn't want to kill her. STILL, I also know if Katara were going to die it would be for people she cared about on the ship. She wouldn't go out quietly either: I'd see her causing some huge tidal wave that wiped out most of her enemies. Heck, I'd want her to die total Rei style from first season Sailor Moon, clutching the enemy and bring them down with her.

[identity profile] firesoul-lol.livejournal.com 2009-08-31 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
...and that's what I was gonna say about Rei, so, uh, yeah, this. :|b

It'd be more down the line when she actually has people to care about, though. She's still torn up about her friends dying (she's actually from right as she does that in canon), so the sacrifice would have to count.

---Or be meaningless if I'm feeling cruel that day.

[identity profile] not-prncss-tldr.livejournal.com 2009-08-31 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
Lafiel: Duty above all else. Lafiel will charge into battle and hold the line long past when she should have retreated. It's an Abriel trait, this stubbornness. Gibbering, unspeakable horrors and she will plant the mine that buys a minute from it. Her last thought before she pushes the little button is of Jinnto.

Sheeana: She's a sly one, tough as worm hide and silent as the sand at night. And she's an Atreides. That means there's at least a residual futuresense in her, even though she knows its dangers.

If it were something unexpected, she would laugh as it swept over her. The changer comes always!

If it was something expected, known, like Darwi's plan to control the Honored Matres, she would Share with Arha and any other available Reverend Mothers and go quietly to her fate with a blank expression and a minimum of fuss.

Yuri: This is a tough one. Yuri is innocent and twice forced into circumstances she finds strange and terrifying. The actual cause of death wouldn't be so important. That can happen in any way: an errant chunk of metal, a strange scratch, three days of bloated tongue and swimming sensation, that secret swimming hole, no you shouldn't touch it, the lights seem kind of insecure in this section...There's so many ways.

The effect would be the important thing. Yuri's death would show the crew that this really isn't a game. Even the perpetual gamesman, the snarkers and smirkers, would have to acknowledge that. Noone is immune. Noone has plot armor. Noone is too innocent.

[identity profile] hatngartersnake.livejournal.com 2009-08-31 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
I have an allergy to killing off characters XD

But if I were going to...

Jeka is a Legionnaire first and foremost, so she'd go out a) protecting someone or something or doing something that would save/protect a bunch of other people and b) with no regrets. Well, okay, if she died before finding out that her timeline went kerflooey, she'd regret not making it home; but ASIDE from that, no regrets.

Unless Ax was taken completely by surprise, he'd go out muttering the Andalite ritual of death while hacking and slashing the ever-living crap out of a bunch of bad guys. He certainly will NOT die in a space ship collision after becoming a member of the Borg. *grumpy*

Paco's last words would be a reassuring joke thrown over his shoulder or some kind of battle cry. He'd also be kind of surprised -- it's not that he thinks he's immortal, but he knows damn well that Jaime would do everything he could to keep him from dying. But keep in mind, this is a guy who tells the ex-wrath of God that has been kicking Jaime's butt to "bring it, you purple freak".

Jonas...oh, Jonas. He's my character Most Likely To Die At The Hands Of The Crew Because He's Turned Evil. But then, he's also my character Most Likely To Have Emergency Back-Ups In Case He Goes Evil. Otherwise, he'd die protecting Cassie, or as the result of a time-travel mishap. He's hard to kill though, being a synthetic intelligence installed in a suit of time-travel armor from the 30th century. Seriously, Kang's died how many times now?

[identity profile] thenameissam.livejournal.com 2009-08-31 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm the opposite. I have a propensity for killing off my characters.

If I were to do it, this is how for each:

Sam would be captured by an enemy, undergo excruciating torture, eventually be rescued, but die from his injuries.

Sawyer would die saving one person's life, likely by taking a hit that the other person doesn't see coming. I also see the person he saves being someone the other characters wouldn't expect him to save.

Lyta I see dying in one of three ways: 1) using her telepathic abilities to single-handedly hold off a massive army long enough for the others to escape; 2) burning out by battling a more powerful telepathic threat and maybe having her consciousness absorbed by Stacy, or; 3) for whatever reason (and I have a myriad of them) she goes "bad" and becomes a threat to the crew and they have to kill her.

Gambit would be the first victim of either a pandemic or a bad guy who up until the point of Gambit's death hadn't been revealed as being bad.

Cale would die in an explosion that vaporizes his body.

OH BILLY NO.

Seriously, I can't ever imagine killing this one off. He's special to me. And Power Rangers don't die, damnit Other than that one time...SPOILERS.

But this is a pretend game, so I have to imagine it. Here goes.

Mr. Ranger Blue is all about doing what's best for everyone. He'd give up things he wants really badly to make sure his friends are safe. (see: that little stunt in Zeo I prefer not to acknowledge) It'd probably be a 'yeah, someone needs to use their mechanical skills to save the day, but they'll probably die doing it' thing and he'd charge right in because he thinks it's his job to protect the other engineers.

He already knows that there's a somewhat big chance he'll die on this mission, though, so he'll have figured out a way to pre-record goodbye messages for Adam and Andros, the rangers back in Angel Grove in case the ship ever gets there, and all his friends here.

[identity profile] kirasaves.livejournal.com 2009-09-01 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Kira goes out in an awesome mecha robot fight against impossible odds. What, you were expecting something different?

[identity profile] standaloneshell.livejournal.com 2009-09-01 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm...Motoko...

The only way Motoko can die, is if she does something monumentally stupid. Generally, she's the soul of pragmatic professionalism, but every once in a while she gets a wild hair up her ass and runs off to mind-rape mysterious AIs or charge blind into a longshot kamikaze situation. Usually she survives the longshot kamikaze bullshit (though you're sure she'll die each and every time,) but for some reason the brain-diving random powerful and mysterious brains tends to be fatal. So. Motoko dies in an easily avoidable but profound situation, leaving all her team-mates in a bind, mostly just because she can. Cussing ensues.

[identity profile] jedimacguyver.livejournal.com 2009-09-01 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Obi-Wan Kenobis don't die, they just fade away.

Seriously, though? I can't kill Obi-Wan. He's too skilled to die. In fact, his entire fighting philosophy is built around not-dying. Remember, he isn't trying to win, he's only trying not to lose. This is why lightsaber battles with Obi-Wan seem to have a half an hour minimum.

I suppose he'd have to be captured, somehow, and executed. Kind of a pathetic death, but he'd be very zen about it. Other than that, he'd die on purpose, as he does in canon. Probably to stop people from trying to save him (and getting their butts killed in the process) or some similar reason.

[identity profile] beyondgotham.livejournal.com 2009-09-01 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I've killed off so many of my characters. All OCs, but still. I have a tendency to kill characters off. So, of course, I've thought about how I would kill my current characters off if I really wanted to.

Terry... well, even if I don't kill him off in this game, he's a character I always imagined dying young. Either he'd die young, or he'd pass the cowl down to a new Batman and then retire and go start a family, because he doesn't want to become like Bruce - old and alone, with only the memory of his golden years. That said, if I kill him off here, it would be in a f***in' BLAZE OF GLORY. If he were to die, it would be doing the single most heroic thing he could ever do - the final atonement for everything bad he did before his life. He may also remind everyone that he's the Goddamn Batman at that point, too.

Holly would probably die defending the people she cares about. That's pretty generic, I know, but she literally has died for The People (even if Artemis reversed time and stopped it from really happening). She'd also probably go out in the line of duty. Also, if I do kill her off here, she'd demand of the other crew members that they find a planet and bury her under the most oak-like tree they can find.

how did I miss this...

[identity profile] hero-sting.livejournal.com 2009-09-01 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Chris... well, though I'd never kill him off (in part because of what happened to him canonically) if he did die? He would be kicking ass and taking names in a blaze of glory. He would also find out how to send a message to his friends on his earth and the friends he's made on the ship.

Doc? He's too... goofy for me to kill. Plus I have plans for him...

Waspinator? If he did die permanently, he would do something really out of character and something anti-Predacon like saving someone else.

[identity profile] literaryloser.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Well..

Fitz: He'd go out as badass as he can. He's already been through plenty of torture-- he's the sort to die because other people need time and he's the most expendable, so he decides to launch himself at the enemy armed only with a baseball bat. Not always the brightest ideas, but well-meaning?

Javert would be a bitch about it. He's got this sort of superiority complex--he refuses to believe that anyone will ever get the upper hand on him. So he's the sort to die from sheer amount of wounds, the get up, fall down, get back up, get stabbed again...sort.

That or he's jumping off another godd*mn bridge.

Connor, well, he'd die for Murphy. Or Murphy would die for him. Probably both, within very short time of each other. They're kinda weird like that.

[identity profile] godimgood.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Geoffrey Chaucer will be assassinated by the supporters of the king who his son helped put on the throne will outlive his wife by many years and work in many jobs, a renaissance man before his time, before dying alone and in poverty like most writers, because the king stops paying him is probably the hardest person for me to kill, for so many reasons. He's my baby, in some ways. And if I ever did choose to kill him, it would not be badass. To be honest, unless it's completely in character for them to have one, I'm quite tired of badass deaths. Most of the time people simply die, and I think that Geoff would be one of those people. By the standards of the ship, he's not even a mediocre combatant. He's a foot soldier, and most likely he would die as one, a casualty missed in the mess and chaos until a head-count was taken later.

Murphy MacManus will die guns blazing, with lots of screaming, yelling, and cursing, either directly before or directly after his brother. If they're lucky, it will be simultaneous.

I'm not killing the Doctor off unless I have to; too much damn work. He's already had one regeneration, I'm not sure I have two more and a death scene in me.

I don't really want to kill off Jamie any time soon, since I just got here.

But IF he did die, it would likely be from some noble-but-ultimately-stupid impulse to protect someone else that resulted him getting in a fight he just couldn't win. Or if the ship gets infested with Redcoats.

Beyond that, I'd have to consider it more.

[identity profile] halfa-hero.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
The Middleman would go out in a blaze of glory, first finally telling his real name to Wendy, and then charging into battle to give everyone time to get back on the ship, and he'd record a message to send to Dubbie, telling her that there's no-one he'd rather pass the Middleman Identity to than her.

Danny? Kinda tough. Aside from the fact that he's one guy I'm plan absolutely sure I want to make it the whole way through, he's like his world's version of Superman, and thus would be REALLY hard to kill off. Even the older version of himself didn't manage to beat him. He'd be willing to die to rescue the crew, but it would take something huge to do it.

Shawn'd go out screaming like a girl.

Ron's a lot similar to Danny. Really tough when he's going full monkey, and if I was gonna do it, there'd probably have to be a Kim on board for him to do it for. Not that he wouldn't do it to protect everyone else, but Kim being in serious danger would set him off big time.

Wags? Either by protecting someone else, or by pissing off the wrong person.

Bumblebee, haven't really thought about it. Probably most likely like Wags, by mouthing off to the wrong person.

[identity profile] psi-flames.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really something I've thought about much, honestly.

Dick, I think, would sacrifice himself to save someone else. Either one of the Bats (yes, Jason, even you) or a teammate. In all honesty, he'd do it to save the crew, too, but it'd be more likely to be just a single, rash decision. Not planning on it happening, but one never knows. (I'm far more likely to injure the hell out of him.)

Jono is harder because it's a question as to whether or not he can be actually killed. That said, he is my literal 'blaze of glory' guy, likely to go out as part of a rear guard action to give everybody else a chance to get back to safety while he takes out whatever's coming up behind. This would probably take out his body, too, though since he's technically a being of pure energy, it might not kill him entirely. That said, if you manage to turn off his powers? He'd pretty much die. (Well, state of suspended animation, really, but if his powers weren't put back on it would eventually become permanent.)

His last words would probably be something like, "If a grey bloke name of Espinosa shows up, tell him he's bloody well slow." Because he's not going to go out without a bit of snark.

Always 100% late to the party

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
I don't anticipate killing Arha, mostly because she's grown on me, but here, have a scenario:

She wasn't counting, but there were bodies in her wake, many bodies in a wave that kept coming. Her crysknife flashed out again, a blur of milk-white as she twisted away from a pair of claws. She could hear the hum and feel the vibration of lightsabers, the light of them bright in the dim canyons. Her eyes picked the fastest route to her Jed-Eye, to Sheena, to the people she could not help but care for, and she moved.

Pain was ignored.

To her left, she saw Luke defending, at the center Anakin was a blur of movement, to her right Obi-Wan moving with grace, unhurried by the madness around him. Arha barely knew what Stacy had sent them against, only that they had attacked without hesitation, without mercy. There were rents along her back, and despite her own fast healing and Fremen coagulation, she had lost more blood than she might have liked. Always, she kept moving. There was a leader.

There was always a leader.

Before this, she had Shared with Sheeana. Before this, she had spoken with her Jedi. Her crysknife flashed again, glinting as dawnslight spread pale gold across the sky. She leapt at the towering figure that seemed all claws and mouth. Arha drew in a sharp breath as talons dug into her flesh and twisted.

They fell.

She watched the battlefield, the flash of lightsabers, the rhythmless dance of Sheeana, the way Obi-Wan's face twisted, and Luke half-stilled, the way Anakin unleashed fury in a wave. She watched it all arc and then disappear in red.

She was falling.

Obi-Wan's laughter after she'd finally gotten something right. Luke's chagrined smile. The twist of Sheeana's lips that meant she'd attempted to do something more to further some nameless goal of hers. Moments of peace.

She was flying into the golden sunrise, into the black rocks, into the depths. Had she not always wanted a pair of wings?

I love you all. All of you. Always.

And then she was gone.

Pirogoeth would go out in one way and one way only. Everything is going to hell in a handbasket and honestly quite sick of everything going to hell in a handbasket, would run as deep as she could into enemy forces as she could and start throwing out fire spells like nobodies business and either get stabbed by the enemy during this and die of blood loss at some point if it's not instantly fatal or get herself stuck in the storm of hellfire she made.

Dani is probably not going to die as it's depressing to kill a kid, but if she was, she'd either a) sneak off on her own to do something to ultimately screw up the big bad if she didn't go after them themselves or b) act as a hold off point for some attacking force for the others to get away. If she found a way to convince people to leave the little girl behind.

Selene would probably die with her spirit out of her body. She would be doing something that needed to be done and left her body somewhere unsafe and she gets killed because, well, she can't really defend her body. And when it goes, she goes.

Elfangor would...that's actually a damn good question. Wouldn't be space ship collision of some form. He's immune to those. I'd say he'd probably die doing something to protect his family. Either if it's a fight, or a hostage exchange, or what have you.

Dark Smoke Puncher would die a quiet, unseen death doing something very sneaky and just slipped a little bit, but also probably left some sort of trap that would screw up the bad guy's plan. He'd be noticed as gone whenever they find his body or someone he likes can't find him after a few days.

Shadow Link would die....oh, I imagine he'd probably die after going evil for a while and getting his conscience to bite him that he betrays the enemy forces and he gets killed playing hero for whatever he was being hero-ish for.
