The "Ask Characters Questions" Meme!

Okay guys, this is pretty simple but should be fun, and give us all something to do as we wait for things to happen as plot to progresses.

Post your character, and people can ask them things ICly or OOCly, as themselves or as their characters.

For example, "Hey Chief, what do you think of [x]?" or "Hey Zita, what does Chief think of [x]?"

Characters do not strictly have to answer honestly, but it's more fun (and more funny) if you make them!

Other than that, go nuts and have fun!

What about it interests you?

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
What do you think? Why would you say something like that?!

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
That humans are my intellectual inferiors? In most cases, they are.

But so are Carggites, Winathians, other Coluans, and any other species that can be named, generally. Only specific individuals manage to remotely approach the same level of intellect, or in the case of individuals like Lyle Norg, show traits like ingenuity and creativity that I lack, in compensation for not being quite the same level of intelligence.

...while that may be true, it isn't something people appreciate being told.

Besides, the comment was just 'inferiors', not 'intellectual inferiors'.

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
I never said I thought I was morally superior in any fashion. I always meant it in terms of intellect.

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
....but that's just..

......why would you say that to someone?

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
It's true. It usually came up in the course of conversation. What reason is there not to say it?

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe not to offend others? It took longer than I like to admit, but after I'd been with the Legion for a while, I learned that while such things are true, it's sometimes better to keep them to yourself.

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
Why? If people choose to interrogate such things from a negative perspective, that's their prerogative.

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
How can you--

.....

Didn't it occur to you that there a ways of saying the same thing without making it seem like you're insulting almost everyone that isn't you?

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
They'd likely take offense regardless.

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
You don't know that for sure. In fact my experiences suggest otherwise.

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
They usually find something to take offense at.

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
I find it hard to believe that even you manage to offend someone every conversation.

...out of curiosity, did this topic come up in discussion with Kara?

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
It's not every conversation. That was a gross exaggeration.

And...yes, it did.

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
But maybe if you tried being more personable, it would be even less frequent?

...and did that cause or contribute to your... 'misunderstanding'?

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
It was more...a misinterpretation of her intentions that caused the issues.

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
I thought she was...engaging in flirtatious behavior with me as a ruse of sorts. For her own entertainment. When I said as such, she was hugely offended and sarcastically implied that it was true--which I interpreted as her admitting to it, and...

Now she's rather incensed with me.

*just..... STARES*

...and you did apologise, didn't you?

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
It's highly unlikely that an apology is going to sway her into forgiving me. She's rather angry.

I made a mistake in interpretation, it blew up in my face, and she's already made her presumptions about my character and decided her feelings. It's happened often enough.

In such situations, it's simply best to move on.

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
You didn't think it was likely to work, so you didn't try?

....There's no way I can say this without it seeming insulting. So I think I'll borrow Lightning Lad's wording: Are you an idiot?

Regardless of the likelihood of success, just making the attempt in the first place is often seen as being enough. You're right that it's highly likely that there's little you could say to actually get her to forgive you, but not making the attempt and then ignoring the problem in the hopes it will somehow go away isn't going to work either.

As difficult as it is, I've learned that you often have to be prepared to admit that you're... wrong. And can make mistakes. Especially if you value the opinion of the person in question.
