"...who taught you how to swim?" she asked and pulled her knees to her chest as water splashed up at her. "Tsst! It is alive! Why does it move so? Water should be still."

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
"I can't even remember, really." Luke laughed and slid off the board; the water wasn't that deep here, maybe to his hips, and warm. "It moves because it's the ocean and it has tides. Come on in, it's really warm."

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
"It is very wet," she said with a frown and then flushed as she realized how stupid that sounded. "And." She hugged her knees tighter. "I do not know how to swim. The water could eat me."

And that sounded exceptionally stupid as well.

He held his arms out. "It won't, I've got you."

Arha very carefully (with the look of utmost concentration) slipped into the water. There was a flail, which resulted in her squeaking in a very un-Bene Gesserit-Jed-Eye way as she caught hold of him.

"The rock was stable," she muttered and realized she had a hold of his shorts. Awkwardly.

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
"The sand floor is stable too," Luke said, prying her hands off and holding them in his own. "Just stretch out your legs and start walking."

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Arha sidled a glance at him and tried not clutch at him any more than strictly necessary. She was no child. It was a slow process and she stepped with exaggerated wariness, her eyes intent on what she was doing, though they flicked to his face every so often.

"I cannot believe you play in this," she said in a grumbly sort of voice.

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Doesn't it feel nice, though?" he said, grinning at her as he held her hands firmly.

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
"I do not know yet," Arha said truthfully. "I am still attempting to adjust to the fact that I am in salty water and am not dead." She made a particularly exasperated face and squeezed his hands as she half tripped over something lodged in the sand.

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Woah!" Luke grabbed for her to steady her, arms wrapping around her middle and pulling her back against him.

"Careful," he said--and then he realized just how close they were, and blushed.

[identity profile] jedimacguyver.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
"A-hem," Interjected Obi-Wan Kenobi, professional cockblock, interrupter, overbearing nanny and protector of marriages both future and past, "Having fun, are we?"

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Luke blushed deeper and respectfully stepped back half a pace, dropping his arms from around Arha. "She seems to think she'll drown if she sticks a toe in water," he explained.

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
"I was be--" The words got stuck coming out and her jaw snapped shut. "No. I am busy attempting to be drowned and the sand has tried to bite me. It has bit me and I do not have water to practice with all the time."

She frowned and moved away, half flailing once more as a particularly boisterous wave slapped into her. The curse was about as sweet as the rock she'd just stubbed her toe on.

[identity profile] jedimacguyver.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Obi-Wan cast a half-amused questioning look at Luke, and waded out a little closer to them, "Really, now. Has it?"

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know, Master," Luke said in a half-teasing tone of voice. "There are some pretty vicious sand dunes on Tatooine. I'm sure sand in the ocean can be just as dangerous."

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
"It is very vicious when it hides rocks," Arha grumbled. "I do not approve of its crippling tactics."

[identity profile] jedimacguyver.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
"I highly doubt the Hutts are going to take up residence on the beachfront," Obi-Wan shot back, sharing an indulgent grin with his future student. This woman was a handful, and so Obi-Wan offered her his arm with a gentlemanly pose, "Hold on to each of us and float, if you like...Unless you don't trust us not to let you sink."

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Luke looked carefully at his future-past master, then at Arha, and then smiled. Something in Obi-Wan's face reminded him of the younger self that had carried Mara out of a shootout in a Chiss fortress when she'd been shot in the shoulder, worried that he would see a vision of what he'd thought to be her death come true.

"Perhaps you should take her by yourself," Luke said. "I'd better go ahead of you two and make sure there isn't anything for her to fall on. And coral's pretty sharp--we wouldn't want to bring predators in or anything."

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Arha's eyebrows arched and she moved to say something, wobbled, and clung to Obi-Wan's offered arm. Her eyes widened again.

"...how big are these predators?" she asked, standing on her tiptoes as if to avoid anything on the sand.

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, it depends on the planet you're going to." Luke grinned over his shoulder. "Anywhere from microscopic to many times the size of a human male."

[identity profile] jedimacguyver.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Obi-Wan shot Luke a stern look, "Now, stop scaring her, this isn't Naboo and we're not going to—"

Oh. He sees what you're doing, Luke Skywalker, you sneaky bastard. Have some narrowed eyes, why is everyone always trying to play matchmaker with him?

"There's no need for alarm. I'm sure we're perfectly safe here. It's a protected cove, and a shallow one...we'll be fine. Try and enjoy yourself."

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Many times bigger than a human male?! Arha was still focused on that statement as she tried to figure out what the hell that might look like. And then she mumbled something terribly uncouth under her breath, mostly about big fish-things.

Letting go of Obi-Wan was still not an option and she stayed fast, though Luke got a mildly amused look.

"If there were such creatures in this place, a lightsaber would come in handy. They do work under water, yes?"

[identity profile] jedimacguyver.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"They...can be made to, yes," Obi-Wan replied, awkwardly, knowing his own lightsaber would short out handily if he tried it. There were ways to make the devices functional underwater— the first Nautolan Jedi Artisans had seen to that, but he'd never had much call for it and so hadn't bothered with the fiddly modification.

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-27 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hm," she murmured. "One should always be prepared for such. What would one do if their weapon could not be relied upon in all circumstances? I should not like to die from being eaten because my weapon has failed."

Arha felt a particularly unpleasant stab of pain radiating from the toe she had just stubbed. She let go of Obi-Wan abruptly, disappeared underwater and came up holding a particularly annoyed crab.

"These things!" she snapped, dangling the creature up in front of Obi-Wan's face. "They pinch!"

It clacked its claws in irritation, looking very much like Arha at the moment.

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Luke grinned and waded out farther. "They get bigger," he said cheerfully. "I've heard of ones as big across as a landspeeder."
