"It's just a cut. It'll be fine."

He sighed slightly. Why was she so stubborn? "Well, if you say so. Do you want to head back? Or stay out for awhile more?"
JUST KISS ALL READY
"Well we could stay out here a bit longer if you don't mind..."
TELL ME ABOUT IT
"I don't mind. As long as you're sure your hands are alright." You know, he probably should let go of her hand by now...

"[Should I come back later?]" he finally asked, acidly. "[I would not want to intrude or anything.]"
no subject
What did you do?
WHAT DID YOU DO?
"Jonas!" Oh God, she wanted to sink into the ocean and die.
no subject
"No, you should stay." He answered the question, sarcastic though it may have been. "I should go...I shouldn't have done that." The last part of the statement was aimed at Cassie.

At least, he did not have much to say to Cassie, and he was hardly in the mood to listen to her excuses. They had talked about this, he had told her that he refused to be the consolation prize because she could not have his 'brother'.
He realized that he was clenching and unclenching his fists, and immediately put a stop to it.
"[Good day, both of you,]" he said, turning on his heel to walk away, forgetting for the moment that he was currently intangible and could actually fly.

"Hey Jonas. You just gonna run away?"
no subject
"[Walk, actually,]" he called back, his voice edged with anger and a little bit of pain under a thin veneer of false cheer. "[I see no point in forcing myself into a relationship with someone who would rather be with you. Therefore, again, good day.]"
Dammit, why had his voice cracked on that last word? His voice was not produced by a larynx; that was entirely psychosomatic.

Actually, she had no idea if it was true or not.

"You call yourself a hero, kid? You're just gonna walk away with your tail between your legs?" He forced a sneer. "If you'd give her up like that, you don't deserve her in the first place!"
Taking a step forward, he picked up one of the shellfish that clung to the rock and threw it as hard as he could at the intangible boy. "Turn around you damn coward! You care about her? Then !@$#ing fight!"
no subject
"[Cassie is her own person and I deeply doubt that her affections can be swayed by a dick-waving contest,]" he sneered, stalking back toward them again. "[But do continue to attempt to infuriate me as if you do not realize that you have already succeeded.]"

In one movement Cassie shoved Nate off of the rock and into the water.
She was probably going to regret that later.

"WAUGH!" SPLASH.
He didn't come up for a long while. And when he did it was on the other side of the rock. Slowly, he pulled himself up, dripping wet and glaring at the both of them. "That all you two got?"

At least in the water she could hide her tears.
