She gasped and hurried away from the splash. Not fast enough though, as Miku held her hands up to ward away the water. "Eeek!"

Thankfully, Steve's mental voice did not pick up on the alternate connotations of that line, or else he might have then slowly sat down in the water and dunked his head under to drown himself.

It just meant that Steve would find himself duly soaked by girl and tide. "And strawberry, by the way. I like strawberry ice cream." Possibly because it was pink.
Possibly.

He took a good splash that made him jump, and he finally gave up trying to stay dry on the beach, wading out into the water himself. The sun was beating down on him anyway. If he was going to get sunburned to oblivion (and he was... he was a redhead, after all) he might as well enjoy himself in the process.
"Strawberry's all right. Buuuut you can't beat chocolate, sorry." Then he took a splash in the face that left his hair hanging over his eyes. He whipped his head back to throw it out of the way again.

So far, so good, now that they were either both forcefully ignoring the awkwardness of one stranger calling over another, and enjoying the surf. Though, certainly, Miku would feel just terrible when Steve turned into Great Red Tomato. "I like gateau cakes, too." A wave picked up the slight girl and brought her closer to shore, much to her surprise.
no subject
"I've never had a gateau cake," he commented, riding the wave back a few feet. He was at least half a head taller than her, but he was pretty scrawny himself. "Is that some kind of fancy type, like they'd serve at a tea or something?"
no subject
"...I guess you could have them with... milk tea, maybe." Miku shrugged. A wave knocked her over and she came up sputtering.
no subject
"Hey, are you okay? Maybe we should tie some rocks to your feet," he joked. "Or are you just going weak in the knees talking about cake? I've been getting there myself, actually..."
no subject
"Thank you," she added, trying not to look more embarrassed, and splashed him.

Then she got him right in the face again. Steve made a face and spit out salty water, then reached up to brush his hair out of the way again. "Hey, that was a cheap shot! While I'm helping you up and everything..."

Really, Miku, all you have to do is vaguely brush his hand and he might have a coronary episode.
no subject
"Oh, but I am! Really!" Miku wasn't sure how safe it was to move closer, but bowed her head, and took one little step forward, aided by a wave that snuck under her. She held up her hands in a non-threatening manner (which was closer to the truth than she liked to believe - outside of work and the few male relations she knew of, Miku didn't know any men her age). "Truce?"
It could be a trap, Steve. Maybe.
no subject
"Okay, truce." He wouldn't have a heart attack, really. He was planning on this one.
no subject
See, that wasn't so bad, Steve! "Ah... now what..?"
no subject
Steve stared back at her cluelessly for a moment, then his head turned quickly towards the beach in an attempt to find an answer.
"We could. See if there's. Ice cream or something," he offered, thinking back to the conversation a few minutes ago. Smooth. Nice save. "Or at least a pop or something. I got saltwater in my mouth."
no subject
"Yes, let's do that. Just one thing, though. What is po---ahhaahahhhh?!" Miku screamed a little and jumped when something slick and dark scooted into her leg. Unfortunately, her jump carried her right into Steve, whom she tried to alternately pull away from (HOW EMBARRASSING!) and cling to (HELP MEEEE!).
no subject
As a result, he fell backwards and they both ended up landing in the water.

Blub.
Her head broke the surface first and she coughed out the salt water that burned her throat. "Are you okay? I'm so sorry!"
no subject
"It didn't bite you or anything, right?" he asked, trying not to laugh at her or to betray that if he stopped laughing his head might explode out of nervousness.
no subject
Miku pulled herself up and helped up Steve (as best she could, anyway), her face thoroughly pink.
no subject
"It's cool. I was kind of hot anyway," he joked.
no subject
...It was about then she realized she still had his hand and let go quickly. Whoops.
no subject
"They can't, uh, they can't follow you up on the beach. Except the crabs," he went on. What in the hell are you even saying? God...
no subject
Hey, there were weirder beliefs where she came from.
