10 Things You Didn't Know

That's it. It's Sunday, I'm bored, it's time for a meme that I stole from [livejournal.com profile] xi_rpg.

RULES
1. Post with your character
2. Post ten things that you believe are true about your character that people might not know - nobody cares if you use headcanon, it's up to you.
3. Watch as others do the same; comment IC or OoC!
4. ???
5. PROFIT!

6. Brainy met Bart Allen when Brainy was almost 3 years old. During a rare visit to Earth for him to give a presentation at a Physics Symposium, he was a given a tour of the Colugov Lab Complexes. While the adults were talking, he sneaked off and broke into one wing of the complex and found where they were keeping Bart Allen in his virtual reality world.

He watched some of the slowed down clips from what was going on inside Bart's little VR world and to his surprise, found that a copy of Dox was Bart's playmate. At first he wanted to demand they give him back, but when they told him that they were using the VR simulation to keep Bart from going insane, he decided to let him keep Dox. The reason he told them was that he had no need for the AI anyway, and there weren't any real practical applications for it, but the truth was, he didn't want someone else to grow up lonely like he was, and he knew his guardians wouldn't let him keep the AI anyway.

To this day, he hasn't told Bart this, or brought up that his Dox was called "Dox" for a reason, but it's part of why he's one of the only Legionnaires that actually tolerates the speedster, even if he does it with a great deal of vocal protest. Bart seemed fun, and the two year old Brainy had wished he could be his friend. Despite his very vocal protestations and the trouble that sometimes follows Bart around, he hasn't really been disappointed, and does consider Bart to be his friend.

7. Brainy is mostly science-sexual, but when he crushes on actual people, it's usually regardless of sex. While he typically ignores romantic and sexual feelings and focuses on his experiments, Brainy's had crushes on a fairly large group of people. Andromeda, Spark, Invisible Kid were the Legionnaires he crushed on the hardest, with a slight thing for Kid Quantum, but none of them were truly interested back or, barring Andromeda and Lyle, even realized he liked them. On the ship, he has his very obvious crushes on Brenda and Kara, but there are a few that are less obvious. Like his slight crushes on Robin, Wyn, and Billy Cranston, and--it'd take pain of death for him to admit it--he's intensely attracted to Asuka and Lois Lane.

Brainy tends to get squibbly feelings over three types of people: 1) the ones that throw the tiniest bit of affection his way (especially blonds), 2) People he admires for their intellectual prowess or for either reasons, like their virtuous tendencies, or 3) People that don't take his shit and could probably bend him into a pretzel.

Brenda and Kara just happen to fit all three categories so both girls make him a little loopy. He's very messed up on the romantic end, though, and a part of him sort of realizes how needy he is, and how easily he latches onto people, so he mostly just nips all these feelings in the bud, and tries to act very cold and distant until they go away.

8. Though it'd be damn near possible to get him to sing, he has a lovely singing voice. He's a tenor and has perfect pitch.

9. The monkey sleeps cuddled up to his head every night, and always has ever since he's had him. When Koko left Brainy and went off with his new family, Brainy took to cuddling a blanket by his head, like he cuddled blankets when he was little to just have something there. He also cried for a little bit. After Dox, who he'd programmed to be his friend, and RJ Brande, who'd been his boss, Koko had pretty much been the first living being ever to act like he liked him. The monkey was pretty much his first friend.

10. Querl Dox has two very disparate views of himself. Deep down, he sort of realizes he's a good person, and a hero, and he's proud of himself for turning the moniker "Brainiac" into a heroic one.

...But part of him still thinks that there is nothing valuable to him beyond his intellect. This is why he often resented the Legion at times for treating him like a solution machine that they pushed a button and got answers from, rather than treating him like a person, because it was a stinging reinforcement of the idea that he was only valuable for his brain.

He feels like he was not valuable enough to cause his mother to develop an attachment, and after being treated like an object with a very useful facet, he tends to view his intellect as the most valuable part of himself, rather than who he actually is.

This leads to a weird dichotomy, where he's exceedingly arrogant about his 12th-level intellect, but inwardly, has horrible self esteem. A big part of his ego is inflating the importance of his intellect so he feels better about himself. If he ever lost his intellectual capacity permanently, he would possibly try to kill himself, because so much of his self esteem is invested in his intellect, and he thinks he's useless without it.

11. (Because I like to take it one step beyond! Well, ten steps. I'm going to 20) At one time, he had a holo collection from Legion World's security cameras of several of his team-mates in states of undress. He is seriously sexually repressed, and kind of perverted and deviant as a result.

12. He always had wanted a little brother or sister, so he wouldn't be alone. Now, in his mind, he did have a brother. Past tense.

13. He still wants a mommy, and will probably bond with Dr. Yewande to have the first healthy maternal relationship of his life.

14. Without his facial implants, he'd actually be quite insane. Aside from allowing him a link-up to control the shields of his shield belt, they double as personality inhibitors that help him control his thoughts. He is so smart that he can barely function.

15. Like most Legionnaires, he's a vegetarian. (Not a vegan, though, he will eat dairy). His favorite Earth food is cheesecake, and even if there weren't all those other good things about Earth that there are, he'd think the planet ought to exist just for that.

16. Some of his early inventions were sold in shady dealings by Colugov to the the Titanians and the Braalians and helped cause a great deal of death and destruction during the Titan-Braal War. He now highly resents when his inventions and innovations are used by unscrupulous persons to hurt people and this is why he's so paranoid about sharing information from his omnicom.

4/4 DONE. 20 FACTS. BOOYAH

17. Brainy's creation C.O.M.P.U.T.O and the mech life forms of Robotica were responsible for the deaths of millions on Xanthu and in space. As a result, while the UP still considered him a hero in general, he was exiled from Colu and the Xanthans wanted his head on a pike. Meanwhile, the Roboticans saw him as the great creator, and nearly worshiped him as the creator of C.O.M.P.U.T.O--the One that gave them all free will and sentience--and as the progenitor of mechanoid life and the Father of Machinekind that helped them evolve to achieve true sentience.

He likes to pretend he doesn't, but Brainy does consider C.O.M.P.U.T.O his son, and hopes desperately that Stacy's saved him, despite Computo's past sins.

18. He doesn't like them touching him with their sticky fingers, and acts like he hates them, but he likes very small children. They tend to say exactly what they're thinking, and for someone that has difficulties navigating the turbulent waters of social interaction, that's much easier to deal with than talking to adults sometimes. The crew would probably be surprised to see how patient he'd be taking care of a baby or something, but the Legion's rescued a lot of people over the years and it means they all have to be good with comforting scared people. He's actually very good at calming down small children, mainly because he's always so calm in a catastrophe himself.

19. He rigged up the game systems at Legion HQ so that he could play the villains when the others think they're playing the computer. And he pretty much always wins. He will probably do that to the Media Library if he can get away with it.

20. Aside from never having sex (I mean, he just had his first kiss at age 21, yeesh) he's never even uh, done any lap-based web-browsing if you catch my drift. This is part of why he has no idea why humans are so sex-obsessed, though a big part of that is a naturally low sex drive. (Coluans are very long lived and don't need to mate as frequently to keep the population. Humans are shorter-lived and tend to get by on adaptability and sheer numbers--ergo, they have to breed more, ergo they have higher sex drive).

That being said, the Brainiacs tend to be more passionate than the other Coluans. The evil ones tend to take pleasure in evil or divert that passion towards conquering, but Brainiac 5, like Brainiac 2 once did, tends to direct that towards certain people. With Andromeda, who he thought was pretty and had crushed on without acting on it, when she "died" (it was a fake death), he smashed up his whole lab in a teary-eyed rage.

Brainy tends to let his feelings explode out violently.

Unlike the rest of his species, if Brainy ever really falls in love with someone, it'll be nothing like the cold genetic matches most make. He'll probably be crazy-go-nuts passionately in love with them and wanna do them every five minutes.

While his outward appearance is colder, the truth is Brainy's emotions, needs, and desires, are felt far more strongly by him than most Coluans feel them. He just has much more emotional control and represses them, largely because emotional outbursts would've made people even more terrified of him, and his upbringing didn't give him the skills to process emotion in a healthy way.

*happily laps up tl;dr*

Reactions:
-Oh. Oh my. Damn right those facts are depressing, but I'm glad I read them. Brainy and Bart---that right there is adorable. I can't wait 'til he comes back from hiatus.

-12 made me wibble all over again.

-7. Uh, wow. You've earned my favorite icon, because I never would have picked up on that in a million years. Like you said, strong and obvious crushes are obvious, and I could sorta see specks of feeling for Robin and Wyn, but...I'm clearly as thick as a rock.

Why yes, these facts are depressing, thank you Saphie!

4. D: It's kind of adorable, in a hopelessly sad way.

7. Wyn's reaction would look something like ---> Image just because she'd swear up and down that Brainy was science-sexual always and forever. (Y'know, because they've met exactly twice.) I, on the other hand, am wondering if it's because she's blonde, science-y, or both. XD

15. Brainy likes cheesecake! I like this mostly because it's one of about two non-wibble-worthy facts, but also because the image of Brainy eating cheesecake in my mind is lol-tastic.

omg, so much lovely things to read.

These two need to interact more. Srsly.
