10 Things You Didn't Know
That's it. It's Sunday, I'm bored, it's time for a meme that I stole from
xi_rpg.
RULES
1. Post with your character
2. Post ten things that you believe are true about your character that people might not know - nobody cares if you use headcanon, it's up to you.
3. Watch as others do the same; comment IC or OoC!
4. ???
5. PROFIT!

I. Written out in Japanese Kanji, her name is 惣流・アスカ・ラングレー. Both her middle and last names (Langley and Soryu, respectively) are the names of World War II aircraft carriers. It may be worth noting that both carriers were sunk in combat. In Japanese, Soryu means "blue dragon". Her first name, Asuka, is written with the Japanese characters for "tomorrow", as well as "smell, incense, perfume". It roughly translates to "Smell of Tomorrow". As an interesting side note, the first part of her mother's name, "Kyo" (from "Kyoko") translates to "today".
II. Asuka is an avid video game player. Most of her gaming takes place on consoles and like most things, she's rather good at them. Her favorite genres include racing games, JRPGs, First Person Shooters, and aircraft simulators.
III. Asuka graduated from the Technical University of Munich at the age of thirteen with a bachelor's degree. Her major was in Physics, with a minor in Mechanical Engineering.
IV. Asuka is a fan of football (European) and followed the German Football Association, rooting for and supporting FC Bayern Munich.
V. Asuka's relationship with her father is distant, as it is with her step-mother. After her mother's death, she resolved to be an "adult" and not rely on anyone. As such, she doesn't give more than a lip-service amount of affection to her parents. Her own smarts may have contributed to this.
VI. Asuka was born in and spent much of her early life in Berlin, Germany. She went through various Eva training programs there before transferring to Munich to attend university.
VII. She didn't have many friends growing up. In fact, she didn't really have any "friends". She had people she hung out with, people she knew from her schooling (both at university and before). She was popular enough (although thought a bit odd, for being eleven and in university), but she never opened up to any of them and they remained merely "acquaintances".
VIII. During university, tutored a few of her older classmates.
IX. Asuka's favorite type of movies are military or war dramas, which usually end with the hero (or heroine) being congratulated and celebrated by their home nation (or planet, if it's a sci-fi). She scorns "giant robot" anime.
X. Science-fiction novels are a guilty pleasure - after all, only nerds are into science-fiction. She prefers "hard" science-fiction over the soft stuff. Ray Bradbury, however, remains one of her preferred science-fiction authors.

XII. Although she acts very adult about flirting, sexuality, and her own body, her actual knowledge and firsthand experience with such things are virtually nil. She tries to cover this up as much as possible, although she tends to get flustered when she's not the one initiating such things.
XIII. Her signature "hair clips" are, in fact, her A-10 Nerve clips, which allow her to better sync with her Eva unit. She wears them as a badge of pride and to show off her elite status.
XIV. Asuka is (would have been) single-handedly responsible for wiping out most of a JSSDF assault force sent to attack NERV HQ inside the Geofront. She's probably responsible for at least a few thousand KIA, WIA, and MIA by herself, along with millions (if not billions) in property and equipment damage.
XV. Asuka is, in fact, only one-quarter Japanese. Her father was American and her mother was half Japanese, half German.
XVI. Asuka is trilingual. She speaks German, Japanese, and English fluently (this includes swearing), although she still has some difficulty with Japanese kanji.
XVII. Asuka enjoys both tea and coffee, having acquired a taste for both during her college years.
VXIII. Asuka is an active athlete, when she gets the chance and is proficient in a variety of athletics, including swimming, scuba-diving, running, and some degree of martial arts and self-defense.
XIX. Asuka remains as fashion concious as she possibly can, including subscribing to and reading fashion magazines.
XX. She has a fondness for classical music, although her moe modern tastes run along pop lines (along with the occasional bit of rock and heavy metal).
