The I'd Hit It Meme

The I'D HIT IT Meme
{borrowed/inspired by: [livejournal.com profile] nottome}

Let's face it. There are some pretty hot people out there. Ever pointed somebody out to your friends and say, I'd hit it?

Well now you have the chance to say it to their faces!
The rules of the game are simple:

1. Comment as your character. (One comment per character.)

2. Comment to others!!! Don't be shy!!!

3. Got a friend who's too shy? Post their character's name for them! They may or may not thank you for it.

4. IT'S FOR FUN, YOU GUYS. FUN!

So you're a specialist to such a degree that is causes a detriment of basic social function?

[identity profile] standaloneshell.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's a societal specialization? [This isn't even clever, she's just bored.]

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
My species are inorganic, reject their emotions, and strive to separate themselves from the rest of the galaxy as much as possible. Social interaction is at a bare minimum and the desire to be otherwise is seen as abnormal and will make you an outcast.

Since I left I've had more chances to learn about such things, but I've only been away from Colu for five years. A lot of things that are second nature to you aren't for me.

Hn. A species of dour Tachikoma. It's kind of sad.

[identity profile] standaloneshell.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
They're a series of AI that were developed under my command in response to a lack of competent manpower in the field. Originally they were designed to autonomously pilot unmanned mini-tanks, but they've gone quite a bit past their original parameters.

However, they constantly strive to become more human. Their defining characteristic is a pervasive, childlike joy.

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. Coluans aren't anything like that. My people wouldn't know the first thing about trying to become more human.

[identity profile] standaloneshell.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't call the Tachikoma a 'people.' For one thing, they're still legally defined as dangerously rogue software, and for another there's only thirteen of them.

I expect it's a developmental flaw. They were created to imitate trained human response in combat.

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
........you're calling their desire to be more emotional and unique a developmental flaw?

[identity profile] standaloneshell.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
It's not what was intended. A flaw doesn't stop being one simply because it's results are ultimately preferable. A beneficial one, and one that I now depend on, but at the time they were pausing in the middle of firefights because they had suddenly got an idea about the nature of religious belief in human society.

I'll tolerate a lot of bullshit in the name of adaptation, but that crosses the line.

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. What if they decided that they didn't want to be involved in your fights?

[identity profile] standaloneshell.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Clearly you've never met one. They're tanks. Combat is their basic function. You should hear them chattering on about ballistics.

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Having a basic function doesn't mean you have to follow it.

[identity profile] standaloneshell.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Screw it— Musashi! Talk to this idiot.

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
...what? You're the one who was carrying on about basic functions and how seeking uniqueness was a problem because it interfered with that.

[identity profile] tachikhromatic.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, now! There's no need for rudeness!

Sheesh, we're getting off to a bad start.

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't being rude.

...well. No worse than she was.

[identity profile] tachikhromatic.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's just the Major. You get used to it.

Erhmm....hmm... personnel files....Oh! here we go!

You're Brainiac Five, right? I'm supposed to talk to you!

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
What are you supposed to talk to me about?

[identity profile] tachikhromatic.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure... I think the basic point of this exercise is to assure you that we're not being oppressed. Of course, on a purely technical basis, we are.

But that's purely political! How do you feel about shared-memory systems? A lot of people have reservations about the safety of that kind of system, but I've never seen the issues involved. After all, it's a lot easier to gain knowledge by direct electronic transfer than by tediously learning it all yourself, isn't it?

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
....That's not very reassuring

Shared memory systems? It sounds similar to the Coluan Hive Mind, in a way.

[identity profile] tachikhromatic.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
In order to maximize the impact of every experience, we Tachikoma have always had our memories synced on a regular basis! Of course, after the first catastrophic dissolution, we were permitted to initiate this on a more elective basis, but it was still the kind of thing that allowed for a lot of overlap.

Also, we threw parties! Sharing a dedicated server sure was a lot of fun. It's a lot more annoying, nowadays. There's only so much allotted bandwidth, you know!

Well, it's not so bad. In a strict sense we've got more freedom now than we ever have! Of course, we're still subject to a lot of restrictions, but that's just the sort of risks you have to take!

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[I keep getting distracted by the fact that icon is moving in time to my music.]

...That does sound a lot like the Hive Mind. But with less. Enforced similarities. At least I imagine a measure of individuality isn't looked down upon?

Don't you wish you had the freedom to make your own choices?
