He's actually very skeptical about her. The X-Men, both as a whole and as individuals, have failed him miserably, so while he knows she can probably teach him a lot, and help him control his powers, he's fairly certain that she'll either die again (as Jean Grey's are wont to do) or just flake out on him.

Until she can prove that she'll be around for the long haul, he's not going to get too attached to her, or show her a whole lot of respect. Otherwise she isn't worth the effort.
