Blind Date Meme

I feel vaguely bad posting this since we've had a few other memes over the last few days but. I wanna spam the hell out of everyone. .___.

In honour of the fact that it's Valentine's tomorrow in my corner of the world, I bring you the Blind Date Meme!

Somehow, someway, your character has agreed to a blind date (or several). Maybe they were coerced into it, maybe they don't actually mind the idea, maybe it's just Stacy messing with everyone's heads again, but they're here now. And at the very least, it shouldn't be boring for them.

♥ Make a comment for your character, you can outline a mini-setting if you want. (Think along the lines of the 'Waking up in bed' meme we had a little while back.)

♥ Other characters comment to that as the other half of the blind date!

♥ SPAM HAPPENS.

My inbox dies horribly PROFIT!*

* 'PROFIT' may not apply if participants' idea of profit is anything other than large amounts of spam. Offer void outside the internets.

Katara was definitely startled by this. She did double take, then looked at Nura closely. "I'm pretty sure I never met you before. So unless You heard it from someone else, I'm thinking you might have a power that gives you the ability to read people's minds?"

Katara was just learning the definition of telepath.

[identity profile] crysteel-future.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Close." She smiles. "I'm a precog. I can foresee bits and pieces of the future."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh," Katara said, truly startled now. That was not a power she'd been familiar with: in fact, it sounded like a power that would be dangerous in the wrong hands, or found out about by the wrong person.

Thinking like a Bene Gesserit again, Katara scolded herself, shaking her head. There aren't boogie men trying to swoop down and get me at any turn anymore!

"Precog. I haven't heard of that power...at least, not as something called precog. In my world its usually called fortune telling."

[identity profile] foreseen-future.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Mmmhm. Fortune telling is not a term one would call a precog where I am from. Unless it is meant as an insults." She smiles, shaking it off. Katara meant no harm, only curiosity.

"Tell me, Katara." She sits down and crosses one leg over the other. "It must be very exciting to be a waterbender."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Katara had to laugh at this. "Actually, I have a respect for fortune tellers too. Their craft isn't as easy as one might think. But I'm sure most people might think they were frauds, so I understand."

Katara was quiet a moment. "You know a lot, so you know exciting isn't really a word I'd use. Exciting things happen, yes, and I do like the better parts of them, but dangerous things happen too. You see, I'm a waterbending master, and something I'm beginning to learn is that masters can be corrupt if they let certain actions decide how they'll react to people. So I guess you could say...I'm still learning a lot, although my bending is very much a part of me. I love it."

[identity profile] foreseen-future.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
"I see. It must be very spiritually soothing to have such a connection to one of the elements. To be able to push and pull water with your very being...what is it like for you?" She leans forward, interested.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, THAT was a shocker. She hadn't really had people ask her specifically what it was like to be a bender: they usually assumed it was magic or superpowers that she just got overnight. If there was something that she could talk on about for a time, it was waterbending.

"It is," Katara said, smiling. "It's like a kind of private dance that only you know the moves too. The steps flow, the movement is both passive in its presentation and aggressive in its aims. Where I'm from, water is the same way: think of the quiet babbling brook compared to the powerful strength of the tidal wave. Waterbending teaches understanding both of these things, and committing yourself to getting it right. Also, water has always been a part of me, all around me, and is the strength and echo of my people. It is a sacred gift, one that I would never take for granted."

[identity profile] foreseen-future.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Nura feels very warm when Katara describes her bending. It is the same warmth that she feels whenever Element Lad gave his philosophical speeches, or Querl would explain the innerworkings of intellect and data. All three of them share the same passion.

"It sounds beautiful, Katara. And I know you would never take your gift for granted. You are too much of a wise and brilliant young woman to ever do so."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara shook her head. "I never could. Destiny sometimes throw you in directions you never thought you'd go. If I had stayed in my tribe, I would never have developed in my bending ability. There were no more benders in my tribe: a nation in my world had weeded them out and imprisoned them. But When I traveled with the Avatar, I was able to improvise, I found scrolls to read from and help me study, and then I finally found a teacher. My bending is a gift from my people, and no matter where in the world I am, I can always remember them through bending."

She turned red a little. "Um, sorry. I have this bad habit of telling people too much about me...I don't want to bore you!"

[identity profile] foreseen-future.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Nura laughs. "It's alright. It's wonderful that you feel such a connection to your people through your gift. There is no better way in honoring your heritage." She then says, "I can tell that you and the Avatar are quite close."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, she'd gone red the first time because she felt embarrassed: she turned red NOW because someone she didn't even know mentioned Aang. Though Katara was still trying to get used to the idea of what would happen if he were freed, a part of her would also be excited and overjoyed at seeing him, being near him.

"You could say that," Katara said finally. "He is someone very speical to me."

[identity profile] foreseen-future.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Nura meant that Katara and the Avatar must be very good friends, but from the way Katara turned red as a konapple, Nura sees that there is a "more than" before the "very".

"I'm sure you are someone very special to him, as well." She smiles.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes well, in order to see him in the first place, we have to fight the Nightmare King. I haven't seem him in months, but I know he's been here, and I'd do anything to see him again. Our bond is....very special."

She sighed, smiling. "I'm sure you have someone that you have a close bond with too, Nura."

[identity profile] foreseen-future.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"The way you speak of him, I can tell that you two share a feeling of affection."

Nura smiles warmly. "Yes. I do indeed have someone I am bonded to." She looks down at her wedding ring and sees Querl's face within her mind. It's a thought, and a vision as well. It makes her smile even sweeter, warmer, gentle. "My husband means the entire galaxy to me."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara have her a slow nod. "We've been through a lot together, and while we're both a little different now, that part of us isn't something that will change. I believe that when we see each other, it doesn't matter how much older he got or how much I may have incorporated into me. Our love...that will see through anything."

Katara smiled at the description. "So you do know what I mean. I haven't had the chance to be in a relationship long enough to think about marriage, but I'd like to get there someday."

Katara and Nura should give out love advice.

[identity profile] foreseen-future.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Love is timeless. If you love him, and he loves you, then you two will share a strong bond that no evil or fate can separate."

"When you are sure that you have met the one you want to spend the rest of your life with...someone who surprises you at many turns, and knows you so well, handles each other's ups and downs with a balance...then and there do you commit."

Katara warmed at hearing those words: they were the closest she felt about Aang, and she looked down a little, smiling slightly. "It had seemed to be the most random circumstance, at first. But the more I traveled with him, the more I began to realize it felt like more than that. I'd found him in the iceberg, and I was the first person he saw before he went into a trance after being attacked."

She smiled to herself. "Now I think it was fate, that because we met, our lives would change so much in our travels. And there he was, waiting for me, liking me before I even knew it, even after seeing my more ugly sides. It wasn't long before I realized I*'d fallen in love with him."

Nura smiles. "Fate does have a role to play in love. But I have come to know two types of fate: the fate that is destined, and fate that is unpredictable." She folds her hands in her lap. "It is important to have both."

She laughs. "Love sneaks up on us. It surprises us. For all my precogging, I never once suspected that I would become Querl's wife." There's color to her cheeks. "Happily."

Re: Katara will feel that way when Aang is actually around!

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-02-14 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"I agree," Katara said, smiling. "The fate I'm taking about seemed like both too: we never knew if we would be captured the next day, or running for our lives or enjoying where we were that day. Everyday felt new, and a little brighter when I was with him."

She could have gone on and on about his cheerful innocence that shaped into a willingness to help others and maintain balance in the world. She could have told Nura how he would sacrifice himself for the word yet not go so low as to kill: he would do everything to end that cycle. She could tell him how he had the heart of a true warrior and a good friend.

"I'd like to know how it feels, to be that in love," Katara said. Though honestly, she had an idea she already DID, she was just being modest since Aang, again, was not around.

Can't wait!

"You will, Katara. There is no doubt in my mind."

Katara smiled. "Thank you for that. I'm sorry that I'm not the date you would actually want, but you helped me. I'm grateful."
