Moms can be wrong all the time. The only ones who are never wrong are the heads of the Party.

Besides, most of my comrades smoke once in a while, and it hasn't made them sick. Not like some officers who smoke or drink too much, but they usually lose their posts first anyway. If you don't have self-discipline, you can't carry out the will of the Party.

It's still icky and gross. You can get addicted to it, and then it takes forever to stop. Years and years and it's hard.

"Nah, my old man's got those." Dean admiring his weapons, even if the BB gun was for babies. He'd been taught how to shoot *real* guns AGES ago.

"Can I meet your dad?" Gauron knows a thing or two about getting cigarettes from grownups. Noticing Dean eyeing his BB gun, he adds, his tone a little smug, "You have one of these?" Gauron would agree with him that BB guns are for babies - just like most of the crap in this room. He'd rather have his AK-47, even though ammo is always in short supply where he comes from.

"You can't, he's away on a trip right now," Dean said. Dad's always away on a hunt. Just how it is. Though Sammy should be around here somewhere. He knows he's gotta keep an eye on his little brother.

"Naw, I've used real guns. Like a shotgun."

"That's good - if you know how to fight, you might live." Of course, he knows there are no guarantees. "Back home, I carry a Kalashnikov. I'm the best shot in my platoon, too."

"Ever kill anyone?" Young though he is, Gauron's killed a lot of people - he's in the Khmer Rouge, after all, though Dean's probably too young to recognize his uniform.
