Ickle Meatships!

Hopefully no one sues me for semi-stealing the SLEEP meme format but!

ICKLE!

Think about or think back on the childhood days/younger days of your character (or your character now if they already are kids). There's a huge playroom with a mountain of toys....

Have fun, Kids! And no fightings!

Seriously!?

"Oh, fine. If you're going to be grindwump about it..." she shakes her head. "Someone who is very analytical or no fun when there is fun to be had."

Yeah, is there something weird about that? A lot of people do it with characters.

"And how is being analytical a bad thing?" Seriously, he can't understand that logic at all.

That you can handle so many characters is awesome! I'd have a stress attack by the 2nd day!

Nura puts a hand to her mouth and laughs. He is funny! "It isn't! It just means 'so serious' in translation from vernacular." She removes her hand to show him her warm smile. "You are 'so serious'. My mother can be 'so serious'." Especially when it comes to Nura's studies.

lol, there are people with lists of insane numbers. I don't get those ones.

"Well your studies are important, understandably." Of course his were an entirely different kind with an entirely different structure, but that doesn't change their importance.

"And it sounds like it's meant to be insulting, if anything. Why can't you just say someone's serious?"

Kes has so many. I wonder why Kes doesn't have any stress attacks at all!

"You haven't met my mother..." Nura says with a grim tone.

She then perks up. "When you think about it in analytical terms, the word 'serious' has various connotations in several cultures. It can mean a point in one's relationship where there is commitment; blunt demeanor; cold demeanor...it's just easier to convert it to 'grindwump'," she shrugs. "But you already knew that," she says with a smile. She may be a proud little girl, but she knows how to flatter.

I deal I guess. XD

"It might be easier, but the penalty is that it's more confusing to anyone unfamiliar with the term," he points out. "Not to mention you risk insulting people accidentally."

He pauses a moment and adds; "and I don't see how your mother ties into this at all."

You deserve your own theme song. Like Batman!

Nura blinks. "I never thought of it like that. Thanks for change of perspective." Brainy might be surprised to see his lecture in ethics taken with a smile.

Nura sighs at the mention of her mother. "I know the Public Service is designed to protect youth and the morals of society, but I feel that my privacy is constantly invaded." She looks up. "But she must have my best interest at heart?" It is more a question than a statement.

Not at all, he just wishes more people would take his clearly more informed opinions as easily.

He tilts his head slightly. "The Public Service?"

Nura nods. "The Public Service is an intergalactic system in which the blood of a child is registered on a large-scale data-net. It allows the parents to track their children's locations. It also puts your personal information in plain sight."

Brainy frowns. "That doesn't sound like a good thing to me," he says. "I left Colu to get away from the Hive Mind."

Nura's eyebrow quirks in question and she frowns slightly. "What is the Hive Mind?" It doesn't sound like anything her galaxy's Colu would have--although it does sound data-related.

[identity profile] emotionl4arobot.livejournal.com 2010-02-16 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Brainy tilts his head in confusion. "A hive mind, similar to how certain types of insects operate? Generally the idea promotes group cohesion, working together for the good of the whole entity rather than the individual. Sometimes there's a controlling force in place, in this case the Coluan Council. Unfortunately individuality, uniqueness, and independent thought tend to be..." He hesitates. "...overridden."

It's an awkward topic to explain in detail, which is why in some ways it's easier just to say that he left the Hive Mind and leave it at that.

Nura narrows her brows. "You mean they wanted to rewrite you?" She doesn't like that. Not at all. "That is...unsettling." And so very much like what the Public Service is doing to the youth within Nura's universe.
