Think about or think back on the childhood days/younger days of your character (or your character now if they already are kids). There's a huge playroom with a mountain of toys....

He might be only 7 ½, but Dustin still doesn’t like kids. He gives the toddler a glare behind protective goggles that says, quite clearly, ”Come any closer and I will throw something heavy at you, tiny child.”

The glare hits him as though it were something tangible, and Fletcher wobbles and falls down onto his bottom. He's used to it, though, it's the same kind of glare Russel gives him when he gets in the way. Usually all he needs to do is ask nicely.

"Can I see?" He can make full sentences! Some words trip him up, though.

This surprises Dustin less than it probably should, since when he was that age he was solving basic algebraic equations and could speak two languages. It earns the young one no extra respect.

“You can see from over there.”

Aw. That's no fun. He sits there and looks, though.

"What're you doing?"

Dustin looks back down and continues his work, now heating up the blue, goopy mass on an improvised hot plate. He pokes at it every now and then.

“I’m attempting to make a non-Newtonian fluid out of Play-Doh.”

Fletcher scoots a little closer when Dustin isn't looking.

"Um, what's Newtonian?" Poor kid. His world doesn't have physics.

Another glare. ”I saw that, child. Better scoot your little tush back where it came from,” is the implied translation. But he explains it anyways, if only because he can.

”A non-Newtonian fluid is a fluid whose flow properties are not described by a single constant value of viscosity. Whereas a Newtonian fluid would have a linear viscosity (which passes through the origin), a non-Newtonian fluid's constant coefficient of viscosity cannot be defined.”

He prods at the Play-Doh again. It's starting to melt.

Fletcher scoots back again and brings his knees up to hug them. This guy's scarier than Russel.

He just stares, blinking at that. He didn't follow any of that. "What kind of transmutation circle do you use for that?" he asks, stumbling a little over the word transmutation.

At first Dustin assumes that the kid’s just babbling, but then he recognizes the word and relates it back to some of his studies on Alchemy. Obviously he’s just spouting out something a sibling or parent told him—though this doesn’t stop Dustin from trying to melt his brain like the puddle of blue Play-Doh that he’s scooping into a test tube.

“Circuitous/External combination.”

Of course it's something a parent told him, but that doesn't make it any less valid. He stares blankly. "That's not real."
