Think about or think back on the childhood days/younger days of your character (or your character now if they already are kids). There's a huge playroom with a mountain of toys....

You were supposed to shake on agreements. She knew that much from playing with the other kids. If there is a truce, everybody has to shake on it, just like any other deal. Kaylee sticks out her hand. "Friends."

That's all the prompting Jamie needs to shake the offered hand. He smiles at Kaylee happily. That's much better than a noogie. And now that they're friends, he feels he can ask a question of her.

"What's a planet, anyway?"

Kaylee just blinks. Who doesn't know what a planet is? Then again, he didn't know what proper ships were, either.

Some kids are so sheltered.

"Planet's the whooole earth you live on, with mountains and land and oceans. And there're lots of 'em, and people live on bunches of different kinds." If it was nighttime, she'd show him the stars, and point out which ones might be planets.

Jamie shakes his head. "That can't be right. There's Scotland, and England..." He breaks off, thinking furiously. He doesn't know a lot of places. "Well. I suppose there's the man that lives in the Moon, but that's way up in the sky." He's only one person though, not people. He's having a hard time believing in the concept of planets.

"And that's the Moon, anyway, not one of these planet-y things. Are ye sure ye aren't just thinking of stories?"

Scotland and England? Weren't those on Earth-That-Was? "Ain't no Earth, though. Got used up, so we had to go other places." He's obviously the one who's been reading too much.

"Planets're called moons, too, sometimes..." Maybe he lived on a planet that liked to name their things after Earth-That-Was.

Jamie gives Kaylee an utterly baffled look. "What do you mean, no Earth? I was just there..." And then he was here, with small girls who give noogies and build model spaceships.

He opens his mouth, closes it again, then frowns. "I don't understand."

Kaylee shakes her head. "Couldn't've been just there, ain't nobody been there in years." Everybody knew that..right?

Oh well. There were some kids who didn't go to school, or hear things. "S'alright if you don't. Not everybody does..."

"Years?" Jamie's still frowning as he thinks about it. "How many years?" There's definitely something strange going on here. He's just not sure what, however.

Kaylee doesn't really know how long it's been... "A lot of years." And then, as if it'll help, "At least a hundred years."

There's a moment of stunned silence, and Jamie just stares at Kaylee. One hundred... That can't be possible. Can it?

Finally, he swallows hard and asks, "W-what year is it where you're from?"

Alright, even people who ain't been to school know the date of things. "2508, 'course!" she replies, though she does her best to keep the surprise out of her voice.

There sure were plenty of strange kids around here.

"2508!" The color drains out of Jamie's face, and he finds he has to sit down rather suddenly. "That's..." He breaks off, counting on his fingers. "Almost 800 years."

Maybe she's kidding, right? "Are ye sure?"

Eight hundred years? Kaylee doesn't look much better than Jamie. "'M positive," she says, slightly less than positively.

That explains the leeches, maybe...

Jamie continues to sit in a stunned silence for a few long moments before his brain can come up with a logical explanation. He must have stumbled across a faery ring, he figures, and they brought him here.

Abruptly, he relaxes. Even at this age, once he's able to figure out a reason for what's happening he's generally fine with things - no matter how strange. "Aye, well. Guess when I'm from doesna matter so much. I'm here now." He even manages to smile. "So I guess ye are stuck with me."

Good enough for Kaylee. She grins, and points back towards the legos. "I can teach ya 'bout spaceships, if you want?"

Jamie grins back. "Okay!" he says, enthusiastic about the prospect.

Kaylee takes his sleeves and leads him over. "Alright, you gotta pay close attention, cuz some of it's tricky," she warned, before diving into building and explanations. It's gonna be a fun afternoon.
