The Trapped in an Elevator Meme




Your character steps into an elevator for... whatever reason, up to and including "meme magic, okay?". Someone steps in with him or her and the door closes. It creaks up a few floors-- and then it stops. The emergency button shocks anyone who touches it.

[Grits his teeth. It's okay, his hand's only a little singed. He's had worse.]

We can try to repair the wiring or exit through the top, but both present their own challenges. On one hand I'm probably not tall enough to get us through, and on the other I'll need to endure those shocks until I can disable them.

You can crawl up if you'd like to---there should be a panel on the top that moves with a small push. But if I'm being electrocuted just by touching things in here, I'm worried about what you'll find.

::Squeak. Electricity, it's another of his little-to-not-known areas. Thankfully he's a decently quick learner::

Electricity. It powered most of my former world's machines, and it's used on the ship too. It provides plenty of energy for devices like this elevator to work, but it injures most of us if we touch it without protective clothing. It's extremely painful to be shocked, and it can kill.

No, it's not magic. It's...everything in the world is made of tiny invisible particles called atoms. Those atoms contain even smaller particles called protons and electrons, and they have opposite charges. If they're in balance, then the atom is table. If something makes them fall out of balance, an electric current is created.

Atoms actually make up cells. They're the smallest units of distinguishable matter. Cells are made up of many atoms and are the smallest things that can be considered alive.

[Nod] That's close to it, yes. There are certain materials humans can wear, like rubber, that stop the charge fro hurting them.

::That expression remains on his face. After crawling around...somewhat aimlessly for a bit, he finds the button-decorated panel and experimentally noses at each one. Well, until emergency button and nose meet.

It isn't the intense heat that gets him. It's the fact that atoms meet with soemthing that isn't atomic. Why, hello, other wall.::

[Clenching his fists, he goes in to at least attempt to pry off the panels---and it hurts immensely, but he eventually falls back gasping for breath with the panel off.]
