beauty & the beast montage

One moment, your character was minding their own business, and the next? Perhaps they opened the wrong door, appeared out of nowhere, or maybe, in a decidedly rare occurrence, they were actually escorted. The choice is yours. Either way, they seem to have found themselves at a formal party.

Spread out before them is a large ballroom. The decorations look like something from a fairy tale; high ceilings supported by stone pillars, walls adorned with gold trimmings and white silk curtains, and a high balcony overlooking an ornate marble dance floor. To the far end, a special stage has been set up, where a small orchestra fills the room with classical waltzes. Overhead, a large crystal chandelier illuminates everything with droplets of rainbow light.

To the sides and on the balcony small clusters of people make leisurely conversation and sip champagne. Several busboys carrying silver trays can be seen taking and delivering drink orders, regardless of age. Several couples choose instead to dance; the most graceful tend towards the middle, while the more inexperienced do their best to stay in the places they will be the most unobtrusive.

Should your character choose to go outside, they will be met with clear, starlit skies, a cool breeze, and a lavish rose garden. Several small tables are set up, lit by candles, where waiters take orders for a full-course dinner. Some of course, choose instead to gather near the ever-present Cod Fountain. Several pieces of strange currency can be seen at the bottom of the fountain; it seems that it's a popular place to wish for happiness.

THE RULES:
-Your characters' clothing with be replaced with formal wear, though the degree of formality is entirely up to you.
-Don't go having epic duels and destroying the building and what have you.
-If you please, you can use NPCs, but you will have to write them yourself.
-Standard "DON'T BE DOUCHEBAGS TO OTHER PLAYERS" disclaimers apply.
-????
-PROFIT!

"If I only had the time to read and train and do everything that I wanted," Katara sighed. "But with another attack looming and all those elections and stuff, who has the time? I'm glad enough to have things like these."

Katara gave her a sheepish look. "We have a long history. I mean yes, he's yummy, and he has a smile that could probably even cause Asuka to act like like a human being, but there's more than that. I was there when he came out of the iceberg, when he was almost killed, and I've seen him grow from an energetic young boy to a man ready to take on his destiny to protect the people of our world. I know that what happens on to the people on this ship matters more to him than anyone...and I love him for it."

She smiled. "Your husband sounds like exactly the kind of man you need."

"Yes. These brief respites from the dolldrums of the ship are always appreciated." She takes another sip of champagne and then finds that she has taken the last sip. She sets it on a passing waiter's tray.

"Yummy?" Nura arches a brow, smiling a little coltishly. "He sounds like a decent sentient being then."

Nura laughs. "Yes, he really is." Her cheeks are somewhat rosy from the effects of the alcohol - or perhaps she's just making another rare little blush.

She nodded. "I don't really mind the doldrums, honestly. I can get things done then. It's when we have to actually fight things and rethink people on the ship that things start to get tricky." She too took a sip of champagne, starting to feel the affects of the alcohol and slowing them down momentarily: it was times like these that she was glad for her body control. Too bad it wasn't completely at her knowledge: she was still tipsy.

"YES, yummy!" Katara said, blowing a raspberry. "I'm allowed to be a little juvenile, okay? Besides, I figured that slang would work between us girls!"

She smiled, then clinked their glasses together again. "To your Querl, and to my Aang, the Avatar: men beyond compare!"

She paused. "Um, your husband is...a man, right? Or is he something else?"

Nura giggles a little, cheeks flushed, face warm. "I think you've had a little too much champagne, Katara." Nevertheless, she happily clinks her glass with Katara's. "Here here!" she cheers.

She lets out a giggle at Katara's question. "Querl's Coluan. Green and grumpy." She nods her head with a 'mhmm'. "A Brainiac beyond compare."

"I don't know what you're talking about." Okay, she did a little, but Katara also knew that this type of silliness wasn't going to be something she would ever really do again. She smiled, clinking the glasses and taking a little more of the champagne.

"Oh, I see," Katara said, giggling. "In others words, he's a lot like Braniac. But if that's true, how the heck did he manage to marry someone like you? You'd think you weren't compatible!"

Nura lets it slide. She doubts that they are ever going to get to be giggly and tipsy for a while, what with the Ohm on their backs, and the dulldrums of the ship to wake up to every day aboard Stacy.

She giggles at Katara's remark. "Well first, I got to know the real Querl Dox. The one beneath the layer of indifference and egotism. He's...a lot different from the face he puts on for everyone else." She decides, sprock it, and takes another glass of champagne from a passing waiter's tray. He gives her a brief look, but Nura shooes him away.

"He doesn't care about my appearance. About my aesthetics. He doesn't slap on the kiddie gloves. He looks at me - really looks at me... and sees me." She takes a sip of champagne, cheeks brightly flushing. "He doesn't outwardly express his feelings, but when he holds me...gives me those brief looks, and those small smiles..."

Her head tilts to side, hair spilling over her shoulder, a warm and goey feeling bubbling up Nura from head to toe.

"...I'm in love."

She was glad that Nura was finally starting to get the picture about enjoying the little time she had. Even in this inebriated state, she understood that it wouldn't happen again: she was too concentrated on being prepared for what was to come.

She took another glass and started to sip, although it was hardly going to matter since she knew full well she was at a point where she was a little compromised.

And after listening to Nura, her cheeks start to redden a little. "Aww, that's so romantic!" She knew she was gushing, but she was going to happen whether there was champagne or not. "He really loves you. I mean, you're really attractive and all, but I hear what you're saying, he really sees you! It's so sweet!"

"Awww, thank you!" Nura takes a longer sip of champagne, and then lets out a very bubbly giggle. She, at this point, is as tipsy as Katara is, face brightly flushed, quite giggly and cheery: a big happy ball of drunk. Her visions will be an absolute mess thanks to the alcohol's effects.

"But!" she then elbows Katara playfully, champagne sloshing around in her glass. "You have to tell me about your little love with the Avatar." She has no idea what it means to be the Avatar, but she supposes that it is something quite powerful.

She might just gush a waterfall.

She laughed. "Aww, you're a lot happier now Nura, that's good!" She was definitely getting to a point where she was going to refuse a drink, but for the moment she was happy to talk to Nura, and she just happened to ask about her favorite subject.

"Little love? Little love? This little love you're talking about did not happen overnight, thank you! I was with him for a year with my brother, and then with other people: we traveled all over our world, saw so many things! But through it all, Aang was the person he was meant to be. He went around trying to solve people's problems, and he would do anything he could to make the world a better place. And the thing is...when he looked at me...he sees me, loves me and everything. He's...so amazing. I love him."

She smiled to herself. "Yes. I really do."

"Alright, alright. It's only an expression..." Nura pats Katara's shoulder, chuckling quite softly.

Alright. Katara may have gushed, but Nura...Nura swoons. "Oh~, he sounds absolutely stellar," she resorts to her 31st century slang vocabulary. It sounds playful and gushy all the same. It also makes her sound somewhat like a teeny-bopper. But she goes with it.

"I'd love to meet your Aang sometime. And for you to meet my Querl." She takes another sip of champagne and then smiles cheerfully. She raises her glass. "To us: fierce girls who met the men of our dreams and then some."

"Just setting the record straight," Katara said, giving her friend a lopsided smile. "You wouldn't believe how many adults I've met who would call all of the things we wet through 'puppy love,' like its the kind of thing that would happen over night."

Katara didn't mind the word-she also didn't know what it meant, but she figured it was something like awesome, so she went with it. "He's one of a kind, and even saying that doesn't really do him justice. But I better stop myself there: if I don't, I'll be talking about him all night, trust me!"

Katara nodded, and clinked glasses with Nura. "You better believe it!" She took a sip, then put her drink down. "That's enough for me. Anymore and I won't be able to walk out of here without falling all over myself!"
