beauty & the beast montage

One moment, your character was minding their own business, and the next? Perhaps they opened the wrong door, appeared out of nowhere, or maybe, in a decidedly rare occurrence, they were actually escorted. The choice is yours. Either way, they seem to have found themselves at a formal party.

Spread out before them is a large ballroom. The decorations look like something from a fairy tale; high ceilings supported by stone pillars, walls adorned with gold trimmings and white silk curtains, and a high balcony overlooking an ornate marble dance floor. To the far end, a special stage has been set up, where a small orchestra fills the room with classical waltzes. Overhead, a large crystal chandelier illuminates everything with droplets of rainbow light.

To the sides and on the balcony small clusters of people make leisurely conversation and sip champagne. Several busboys carrying silver trays can be seen taking and delivering drink orders, regardless of age. Several couples choose instead to dance; the most graceful tend towards the middle, while the more inexperienced do their best to stay in the places they will be the most unobtrusive.

Should your character choose to go outside, they will be met with clear, starlit skies, a cool breeze, and a lavish rose garden. Several small tables are set up, lit by candles, where waiters take orders for a full-course dinner. Some of course, choose instead to gather near the ever-present Cod Fountain. Several pieces of strange currency can be seen at the bottom of the fountain; it seems that it's a popular place to wish for happiness.

THE RULES:
-Your characters' clothing with be replaced with formal wear, though the degree of formality is entirely up to you.
-Don't go having epic duels and destroying the building and what have you.
-If you please, you can use NPCs, but you will have to write them yourself.
-Standard "DON'T BE DOUCHEBAGS TO OTHER PLAYERS" disclaimers apply.
-????
-PROFIT!

Nura gravitates to many people in the ballroom, those who appear to be wallflowers, those who don't quite want to be here (apparently, it's a half grindwump convention in the ballroom) and those who say 'hello' in a moderately sedated tone. So it pleases her immensely to see someone so happy and cheerful having a good time.

Gathering up the sumptuous skirts of her gown (http://www.simplydresses.com/_img/PRODUCTS/500/PromGirl-506870309.jpg) (which is quite fancy), she crosses the room to the person. "Hey, ho," she says, with her 31st century version of 'hello'. "I'm glad to see that someone is happy with the party."

And look at that, a face that isn't completely grumpy. Kaylee grins at Nura as she approaches.

"Are you kiddin'?" She's feeling like a kid in a candy store, and it only grows when she sees Nura's own dress. "With all the pretties here? Feel like I'm floatin' on top of the world, surrounded by all this."

Nura nods her head. "I know what you mean. It's absolutely amazing..." she then looks over her shoulders at a group of wallflowers and sighs. "If only everyone else could be as enthusiastic as we are about the festivities," she turns her head back to Kaylee, wryly grinning, "that don't include being a wallflower."

Kaylee's gaze follows Nura's, and she gives a hurrumph of agreement. "Should make wallflowerin' against the rules, cramps everybody up." It's like the hugging. Too many people avoiding just looking at the bright side of something. How often do they get to dress up on this boat? Not nearly often enough. "Can't really make 'em enjoy it, unfortunately. Likin' somethin' can't be forced."

There should be an in-game ball.

Nura sighs, "Yes, I suppose you're right. We could shower them with chocolates or machines or whatever else they so dearly love and they'd probably still be sitting there," she places her firm hands upon her hips, "stiff as an inertron block."

If the prom ever happens... o9

"Puppies 'n kittens 'n all kinds of shinies," Kaylee agrees. "Some folks just like bein' grumpy, I s'pose. My cap'n back home's one of 'em. Goes around makin' everybody think he's all kinds of rough and tough, but he's a teddy bear deep down in there someplace. He just don't like showin' it."

I hear it is being planned.

"Mhmm. I can relate," Nura says, grabbing two glasses of champagne from a passing waiter's tray. She hands one to Kaylee. "I married a regular grumpy-pants myself." She waves her hand with a chuckle. "He'll snap and grump around like a grumping gordanian most of the time, sour-puss and everything, but deep done," she smiles, "he's that little Coluan who needs a lot of hugs."

Enough planning, more doing! >>

"It's that image they gotta uphold, y'know? That...reputation, or whatever you wanna be callin' it." She laughs, accepting the glass of champagne with an appreciative nod and thank-you. "Men gotta be men, and for some reason that always seems to translate to gruff 'n grumpy."

"Or just grumpy," Nura sighs. "They're like plants. You have to water them, give them love, and actually force them to get their butts out into the sunlight every now and then before they shrivel up in their bad moods." There's a pouty-lip in there for playfulness.

Kaylee giggles and that, and can only bring herself to nod in agreement for several moments before she collects herself some. "Good metaphor, that. About what it feels like, too, havin' to shove their potted selves around. Might be why my arms are always so tired." And has nothing to do with ship repairs, nope.
