But, um, anyway! Hi, everybody. I'm Sam, and I've been thinking about joining this game for a while, and I've finally decided to take the plunge. :D But I thought it might be nice to get to know people first, and I had a few questions too.

First question is, what counts as too fluffy/defenseless to be accepted? Because I've been thinking about joining with Nia from Gurren Lagann here, and while I don't think she's too fluffy, considering the canon she comes from, she's not really a combatant and she's got the whole naive faithful princess thing down pat, so I want to make sure. Basically, I just wanted to make sure that she a.) would have things to do, and b.) wouldn't get killed dead. I'm hoping somebody already knows enough of Nia's canon to answer that for me without me needing to get teal deer on you, but if not, I'd be happy to elaborate on who she is/what her show is like! Oh, and um, I do have other characters I could app with instead if people think she wouldn't be a good fit.

My other question-- I'm so, so sorry if this sounds stupid, but-- this is a campaign, right? Does that mean it's played like a tabletop game, but online? And if so, is it a problem if I've never done tabletop RPing?

Hi, Zita! It's nice to meet you! Thank you for answering my questions. ^^

Nia is from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tengen_Toppa_Gurren_Lagann) (more information about Nia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nia_Teppelin#Nia_Teppelin)). It's a shounen mecha show, and the best short description I've heard of is that it's reconstruction of the mecha genre in the same vein as Evangelion was a deconstruction. Nia is actually capable of defending herself (at least to some extent) if she absolutely has to; but she doesn't like to, because she's got a very gentle personality. So I honestly can't ever really see her becoming a serious combatant. She doesn't really do any kind of technical stuff in the series, although there is official art of her piloting a Ganmen, but I'm not sure how much that's supposed to be an actual possibility and how much it's just a fun thing to draw, so. XD I can't really see her as an engineer, either. Her main role in the series is to bolster the other characters-- especially Simon-- emotionally, since she has pretty much limitless faith in Simon no matter what happens. She also cooks for them, but her cooking is pretty bad. She might make a good nurse if someone patient (REALLY really patient, she asks a lot of stupid questions) was willing to teach her medical stuff, although I think she'd probably work best as a "people person", since that's what she's best at. But it's good to know there are other younger characters here! :) And if turns out she might not be a good fit for the setting after all, I have other characters who need a home, too.

Okay! Yay! I knew this game had an ongoing plot (it was pimped to me in

rp_recs_meme while I was looking for a home for another character), which is what I've been craving in a game so far. ^^ But that's all very good to know! That makes me feel lots better.

Saphie, one of the mods here, just chiming to tell you Zita's assessment is spot on and honestly, Nia sounds great. She could be friends and emotional support for people, she can big sister younger characters, like Yuri, since a lot of the people there don't really have time to, like...essentially raise a child while doing stuff to get them off the boat and going on missions. She could totally be taught to be a medic--like an EMT--to keep folks alive long enough to get them to the doctors. Folks can teach her how to use a blaster--heck, maybe a STUN one, since she doesn't like to hurt people.

There's a lot that can be done, a lot of different roles folks can fill, a lot of people willing to teach the stuff they know, and a lot of social time, too, so being emotional support and helping people through niceness is a-okay. She could basically decide whichever path to take and follow it.

So yeah, let's take a crack at her. If she doesn't work out, you can phase her out and try someone else--it happens sometimes. A lot of players try a character or two before finding one that clicks better--we have an IC way to deal with their disappearing.

YAY! I'm glad you think she'd be a good fit! Honestly, all of that stuff sounds great for her-- I think she'd be good as an EMT, or a baby-sitter/child care person, and I think a stun blaster would be perfect because, although she wouldn't want to hurt anyone, she would want to be able to protect her friends if she had to. :D So, yay. I'll mull over exactly what path to send her down some (although that may depend slightly on what actually happens when she gets in the game), and I'll be sending in her app tonight! \o/

Yeah, I read in the rules what happens when they disappear. I really really hope she works out because I love her to bits, but if not, it's comforting to know the other characters won't end up in angstville because of it. :)

OH OH. Also, if she's a princess and has any experience with affairs of state, she could so be a diplomat on some missions. Even as a fluffy, perky person, because in some societies, they'd actually respect someone gentle and stuff the most as a diplomat, if it's a gentle society they're coming into contact with.

Hence her job would be being friendly with people. XD

OOOOH :D THAT WOULD BE COOL~ she's very very good at being friendly with people and talking to them. And she's unlikely to balk too much at other people's culture or traditions. She might ask some dumb questions, but she'll pretty much go along with whatever it is they do there and not make a huge deal of it. Who knows, aliens might even like her terrible cooking.
