how to:

this is very similar to a roulette meme. first, go here and utilize the random number generator to the right. put '1' as the minimum and '10' as the maximum, then generate a number. reply to fellow posters according to this table:

Aye, but...can we go somewhere else? It's something I need to tell ye in private.

[ Kaylee nods, glancing back down at her work. She finishes the rewiring quickly, and closes the panel with a satisfied smile. ]

Alright, where to?

[He's been thinking all day about that, and he's gotten an idea.]

Would ye come to the Sensoriums with me? I wanted to show ye something.

[ She's gotta wonder what it is, and why he won't tell her, but Jamie is Jamie and sometimes it's better not to question. ]

Sure thing. Lead the way, sir!!

[He leads her to the doorway of one of the Sensoriums, then stops in front of it, not entering just yet.]

Now. I need ye to close your eyes for me, if ye don't mind.

[ One of Kaylee's eyebrows goes up, but she complies. ]

You'd best not be walkin' me into some wall, Jamie.

I'd not do that to ye, Kaylee.

[He hopes she knows he means it. Jamie gently takes her arm and steers her through the open door, into the recreation of the TARDIS console room he's thought up.]

Ye can open your eyes now.

I'd hope you wouldn't.

[ She follows him in, shuffling her feet to test how the ground has changed. The humming of an engine catches her ear before anything, and she's all but bouncing out of her skin by the time he gives her the okay to open her eyes. ]

Is this--

Ai ya, look at it all! This is her, ain't it? This is what she looks like??

Aye, this is the TARDIS. [Seeing Kaylee's excitement, he's pleased - and it makes him happier than he could have imagined to see her in the console room, even if it's a recreation. Without really thinking about it, he reaches to take her hand, if she lets him.]

I...look, Kaylee, there's a reason I brought ye here.

[ Halfway through debating whether or not the controls would do anything in a simulation, Kaylee just gives another excited squeal as she takes it all in. With a last, 'why not?' she runs her hand over the closest side of the center control panel. ]

She's beautiful, y'know it? God, look at her. To think of what went into this...

[ But Jamie's vying for attention, so Kaylee forces herself to refocus on him--and the hand now grasping her own. ]

...what reason?

[He takes a moment longer to simply enjoy her being here, then grows a little more serious.]

Aye, well, I did want to show ye her, but that's not all of it. I...thought that if I brought ye here, I might have the courage to tell ye...tell ye that I love ye.

[ There's a long pause as she registers exactly what he's just said. Looking at it, from the right perspective, she had known, just hadn't paid much attention to it. Dean's a whole lot to look after, and she's used to advances from others...just not really Jamie.

She doesn't know what to do. On one hand, it's Jamie, and she really doesn't want to hurt his feelings--hell, if it wasn't for Dean she'd probably be excited beyond reason right now. On the other hand, there is Dean. ]

Ai ya, Jamie...

[One look at her face pretty much confirms what he was afraid of. He -knew- he shouldn't have said anything. But he hadn't with Victoria, and she left. And someday Kaylee will leave too, and... He turns away, rubbing at the back of his head, trying to think of some way to salvage things.]

...as a friend, aye?

[He can't look at her when he says it, though.]

[ Oh, way to break a heart without even trying, Kaylee. ]

It's not that, Jamie. I'd love to say the same, but right now... Dean really needs me, and I need him just as much. Don't mean I don't need you around any less, it's just...

Fùzá.

[[ Translation: "Complicated." ]]

[There's a few phrases of Kaylee's that Jamie has picked up on, but that's not one of them, and he's confused by it.] Just fuzzy?

[He shakes his head then.] Och, never mind. I know ye care for him, Kaylee. It's just...look, why don't ye forget I told ye anything. All right?

[Turning away from her, he walks over to the console. When he turns back, he's got one of his more stoic expressions on in an effort to try and make it seem like he's not hurting.]

Did ye still want to take a look around the TARDIS, then?

[ It gets a small smile out of her, that fuzzy comment. ] No...complicated. It's complicated.

[ Oh she feels awful. She feels like crying, and him trying to act like it's nothing isn't helping at all. The offer to keep looking around is ignored--doesn't really feel like she deserves it after that. ]

It's not somethin' to be ignored or forgotten, Jamie, and if you're sayin' it there's a reason. I just don't know what to say to it just yet. Don't mean it's a bad thing.

Oh. [Of course he's gotten it wrong, and his lips press together for a moment, before he flicks a glance over at Kaylee. Clearly she doesn't want to look around. He wishes he would, because it would be easier to keep his feelings stuffed back down where they should be.]

How is it complicated? Ye care for him, and I'm...nothing more than a friend. Look, Kaylee, I just want ye to be happy. If you're happy with Dean, then that's all there is to it.

[He'll just figure out some way to be fine with it. Eventually.]

[ Kaylee moves toward Jamie, and rests a hand on his forearm. ]

I care for both of you, Jamie, just in different ways. Don't mean I care for one of you any more than the other.

[ But she knows that settling look in your eyes, Jamie. She's been there herself, too many times to count. What a girl gets for falling for Simon Tam, right there. She just never expected to be the cause of it herself.

She offers him a small smile, gives his arm a squeeze, and glances around. ] How's she work?

[Part of him wants to pull away when she touches him - the last thing he wants right now is to be comforted, but he knows she means well, so he stays where he is.]

Aye. [He knows what she means - he just said it, after all. He doesn't want to talk about it more right now, though - and instead turns his attention to the console, pointing out the instruments he recognizes.]

These are the ones that control our flight, and this one works the door. I'm not sure what this one does. The Doctor never lets me touch it.

[ She'll humor him for the time being and play with the TARDIS, but he'd best not think she's going to forget. It's just going to take some sorting in her head before she comes up with a decent reaction.

For now, she's on her hands and knees, looking up under the center console. ]

What's she run on, do you know?

[Jamie is under the impression that she's given him the only reaction that she is going to get, and he's still not really looking at her while he points out things - at least, until she asks the question. That causes him to glance over with a 'you must be joking' sort of expression.]

If by 'run', ye mean 'break down all the time'...I don't know. Whatever time machines run on, I suppose. Oh! I do know that the fluid links need mercury, though. Of course, The Doctor didn't mention that until they nearly suffocated us.

[ She gives him a, 'you'd know better than me when it comes to time machines, don't give me that,' look right back. ]

Might be somethin' to ask one of the Doctors, then...

[ She frowns. ] Suffocated you??

[dryly] Good luck getting an answer out of him.

And, aye. The mercury vaporized.

[It was just after Victoria had left, and Jamie felt rather...well, a lot like he's feeling now, except that Kaylee's still there. He's back to not looking at her again.]

Oh c'mon, can't be that hard, can it? [ Feminine wiles, Jamie, learn to use them ~~wait what~~ ]

Sounds like a helluva day.

[Look, just because Jamie wears a ~~skirt~~ kilt, doesn't mean he knows the first thing about feminine wiles.]

Well, the Doctor was able to take out the rod...dim...time-vector thing and we were okay.

[And you wonder why Jamie isn't good at explaining how a time machine works...]
