You knew this was coming

Mistletoe Meme!

The Situation:
Crew members who were on Stacy last December remember this. Because GLaDOS is a troll, she has positioned little sprigs of mistletoe on the ceilings of areas of the ship. In hallways, at the entrances to quarters, in a department doorway, at a tavern, she doesn't care how inconvenient it is!

It'd be less inconvenient if it were voluntary, but in this case, the sneaky AI has deployed shields around people who wander under the mistletoe that have not been broken by any known alternate method so far. Any attacks against the shield are absorbed. Attempts at attacking the mistletoe get you singed. The only way to be freed from the confines of your little bubble is to receive some form of affection from another crew member---a strong hug will work for the really uncomfortable, but at least a cheek kiss is expected for most. If GLaDOS wants a mouth kiss, though, let her push for one! Species equivalents of kisses/affection are also acceptable.

So---you're stuck until someone comes to rescue you with a kiss, kids. Have fun, thank you for participating in this crew study experiment, and watch out for the nargles!

((Characters not in the game are of course welcome to join too! It's just on this community this year because it's proven difficult to fit the event around December's plots.))

"I suppose we could try that," Katara said, obviously sensitive to the things that might bother someone who had just arrived on the ship. "I wished we were meeting in better circumstances! This happens around this time of year, it's usually...um, a little better?"

Actually, not really. Things were always crazy.

"Nice to meet you Cagalli! While we're stuck, um, what do you do in your world?"

[identity profile] allnaturalseed.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Cagalli sighed, leaning against the invisible... wall... thing. "Y-yeah, I bet... though I'd prefer if it were more than a little better, guess I can't be picky." Even if she does go insane.

Well, whatever. More pleasant questions are being asked. "I'm the Chief Representative - that is, the head of state - of Orb Union, a small island nation."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Katara, though annoyed by the way they were thrown together, was more than amused by this happening again. She'd thought that GLADOS would have had her fill of mischief.

"A nation island?! Amazing!" She grinned. "What do you do? Just delegate, or do you actually get involved with the people?"

She did remember what she did last Christmas.

[identity profile] allnaturalseed.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
For a moment, Cagalli is taken aback by Katara's enthusiasm about a political office of all things. But who is she to complain if someone actually wants to talk about it? Lacus is her only close friend who really gets the particulars that well.

"Well it's... there's not always a chance to get involved with the people even when I want to," she begins. "For a small nation, Orb has a very strong political structure, which is part of what makes it so stable. On the other hand, it... does mean I have to work with a lot of other politicians more often than anything."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Katara didn't know a lot about politics, to be honest: at least, what she had gathered from her travels was that it was a very crooked way. She remembered Long Feng all too well, not to mention that Earth Nation king. But being on this ship, she knew there were people that simply had a different way of living.

"And is that ok? I mean, I don't know what you have to deal with, but is it okay just talking with other politicians? I mean, I guess that would be all right so long as they keep other people;s well being at heart. It must be a very important job."

She decided to burden Cagalli with details later, she was curious.

[identity profile] allnaturalseed.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's... well, it's my place in things right now. I can't say that everyone in the system has the people's best interest in mind, but as long as most of them do, and those that do are smarter about their jobs, then everything should work out." Honestly, Cagalli would love to be able to just go out and tell everyone everything straight up, but that's not how politics work when there are that many people in the world.

"My job is very important, and it's not easy. It has to be done though, and I wouldn't give it up."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I can imagine," Katara said. "It's a lot like the job the people on the ship have, certain members are in charge of helping people here, but they keep secrets and tend not to share them. They seem to think this works, but all it does is make other people unable to trust them. I'm sure there are good politicians, but I know that some choose to abuse that. If you don't, I'm glad. It means you're one of the better ones."

She smiled. "I hope this place treats you well. Um, but I think if you want to get out, we have to do something."

[identity profile] allnaturalseed.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Cagalli nods, glad that Katara isn't instantly distrusting of her just for being a politician. It's an easy feeling to sympathize with after working around scum like the Seirans after all. "I try to be better than the worst of them, and I try to expose those who abuse their power. If I get the chance, I think I'd like to do that here too."

She clears her throat nervously at Katara's reminder. "I'm... sure someone could help us if we just wait, right?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm glad," Katara said. "Ive seen my share of politicians who say one thing and do another, and a lot of them that prefer to make people do things instead of trying to help others. I just hope you would look after them, that's all. People depend on authority figures."

She didn't say she did: not after all she'd seen.

Here though, she took a slight offense. "What someone? Who? You don't know anyone here! Who would you wait for?"

[identity profile] allnaturalseed.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Cagalli pauses at that, then turns red. "H-hey! I didn't mean like that! There's... gotta be a way to turn this off from the outside, right? I mean, it's... no offense but I don't... we've only just met you know!"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Turn this off from the outside?" Katara laughed, definitely amused. "I don't think it works that way. And I know we don't know each other, but you do want to get out, don't you? Unless you want to talk more, I don't mind."

She actually didn't, although she was slightly offended at waiting for someone else to get them out.

[identity profile] allnaturalseed.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Laughing just made Cagalli cross her arms and huff. "Well how should I know? I mean, it would make sense but I guess that's not how things here work, huh?" She didn't want to keep up being offended with someone she'd been getting along with a moment ago, but this was just silly. "I want out, and I guess you do too, huh?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Nobody ever gets an idea that things work a certain way here, to be honest," Katara admitted. "I'm not trying to make you angry, I'm just picking, to be honest. I would get you out of here, though, if only to make thins a little less awkward."

Which would have made sense if Katara hadn't taken Cagalli and kissed her full on the lips, just to make sure GLADOS let them out.

[identity profile] allnaturalseed.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Cagalli shook her head. "Y-yeah, sorry. I'm still a little stressed," she replied quietly. She'd started to get her temper under control for a little while, but there was no way she could keep from spazzing out under the circumstances.

She was going to add to her apology when suddenly there were lips pressed against hers. Katara's lips. Someone she'd only just met, which was enough on its own to stun her motionless, never mind being her first time kissing another girl. If it counted as kissing her, given Cagalli's utter lack of immediate reaction.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
Katara had not expected much of a reaction to what she'd one: even she would have admitted that it was rather forthright of her, but it was ridiculous to continue acting like they should be waiting for anyone else. Katara wasn't one for being a damsel, and though there was lips she'd rather be kissing, she knew how to take things into her own hands.

"There, you're free now," she said, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "You should be all right now, you don;t have to wait for anyone, right?"

That LOOK Katara. What are you thinking?

[identity profile] allnaturalseed.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Really, all Cagalli could do for a moment after Katara pulled away was blink as her thoughts sorted themselves. 'Casual' and 'physical intimacy' were simply words that didn't go together in her mind at all - she was shy about merely hugging Kira or Athrun if anyone who wasn't a close friend was in eyesight.

That DID solve the problem though, right? She turned around, and reached out to where the barrier had been and... it was gone. Good. A smile crossed her lips as she turned back around. "I... er, thanks, Katara. Even if it was to free you too, thanks. We would've been stuck for a while if you'd just let me stand around blushing..."

To mess with you, what else!

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
Katara had been through all of this already: she knew well enough that this would simply would have dragged on too long. In any case, at least Cagalli was already able to move around if she needed to.

"I had this happen last year," Katara said. "It was pretty annoying. I figure this would happen. But i;d still like to know more about what you've done. Is that ok?"

You tease.

[identity profile] allnaturalseed.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
It sure would have. And on, and on, and on. Making sure to step out from under where the mistletoe was, she stretched, then leaned against a wall. She still wasn't sure about kissing new acquaintances even for wholly practical reasons, but it did free them, so she could set any of those issues aside for later.

"If you're really that interested, sure. Maybe I'll even talk about the interesting stuff instead of politics," she said with a light laugh.

naturally;)

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Katara smiled. She knew, all too well, the hang ups of people that had not before been taken by GLADOS. She knew that their random capture made things strange, but at least they were all right. Kissing someone didn't matter as much as someone who really were important.

"Let me know when you're around," she said, smiling. "I'll find you!"
