THE
SICK MEME

Post your character, one-ish per comment
They are now, for some odd reason, sick (headache, fever, runny nose, cough, whatever you want)
Another character replies and is struck with the sudden urge to take care of them (bringing them soup, extra blankets, Sudafed, sexual healing, what have you)
???
Profit!

Huh?

[Bleary eyes look up at Tron, trying to make sense out of what he's saying. Ugh. Words. Right, she can do this.]

Uh...really came on this morning? But I'd been working with some tech I found in the old weapons bay...

...

I haven't done what I think I've done, have I?

Contracted a computer virus?

[He is very worried.]

Angie, may I run a preliminary check on you? I'm wondering what assistance I might be able to provide.

[identity profile] re-engineer.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Groan and flop. Ugh.] I shouldn't even be able to get computer viruses. My anti-virus is meant to be better than that!

[Angie puts her hand over her eyes.] Yeah, okay. You can run your check. Maybe I'll get lucky and it's just some nasty regular virus, right?

[identity profile] freethesystem.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
It's possible. Whatever it is, though, we'll solve this.

[Tron's hologram steps closer, a visual representation of his progress. He lifts his fingers to gently touch her forehead while the diagnostic asks permission to check. It runs.]

It's definitely corrupted code. It'll take time to upgrade myself to extract it, but I'll do my best.

[identity profile] re-engineer.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Angie's eyes cross, following the fingers and trying to see where he touches. It's just...human instinct. She closes her eyes soon enough, though, sighing out softly as he checks her over. It's nice.]

I suppose I should be glad Apollo or Shen aren't awake right now. I'd never live this down.

[identity profile] freethesystem.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Never live it...why would they think ill of you? Viruses are common. I wouldn't be taking in so many upgrades if they weren't.

[He's still in there, doing what he can to slow the virus's progress and block off access to vital systems.]

[identity profile] re-engineer.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Angie shifts uncomfortably. It's the virus that's the issue, not her friends.]

They wouldn't think ill of me. I know that. But this is kind of the first virus that's ever gotten into my system since I upgraded myself. So I'd get teased. Friendly teasing, but teased.

[identity profile] freethesystem.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Teasing...

[The word, for some reason, produces memories of Flynn. Tron shakes his head.]

They shouldn't do that. If they had any idea how difficult it is to build a perfect defense...

[He's going to stop before he rambles, still working at stopping the spread of the virus.]

I can't eliminate it now, but I can stop it from progressing.

[identity profile] re-engineer.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
It's a friendly thing. [Angie closes her eyes, just drinking it in at the moment. She's already feeling a bit better. Sure, the main symptoms are still there, but whatever Tron's doing is helping.]

Okay. [Careful nod.] Even stopping it where it is would be a help.

[identity profile] freethesystem.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Isolating it now.

[Tron fires off some final bits of code, then withdraws his holographic hand from her face. He looks somewhat tired.]

...that's all I can do at the moment. Are there any User remedies you can try?

[identity profile] re-engineer.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
[She opens her eyes and smiles slightly.] You look like you need a rest, Tron. No overdoing it, okay?

And no, not really. I suppose I could go to the Sensorium and try some chicken soup. Even if it is only slop that my brain is made to think is chicken soup.

[identity profile] freethesystem.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Tron nodded.]

I'll be back to full efficiency as soon as I can.

[...what?]

What are the anti-viral properties of chicken soup?

[identity profile] re-engineer.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
Less anti-viral and more...placebo affect, most likely. [Angie coughed, grimacing. Ugh. Hate this.]

There's some research that indicates that there may be something in chicken soup that is slightly anti-inflammatory. Which basically means you don't feel quite as crappy after a bowl of it. But, like I said, mostly placebo.

[identity profile] freethesystem.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Why can't he just be solid enough to grab some of this chicken soup? This is completely frustrating.]

Then I'll find someone who can retrieve it for you.

[identity profile] re-engineer.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[She manages a smile.] It'll just turn back into slop once it's out of the Sensoriums, Tron. Nothing in there can exist the same way outside of it.

[Like him, for example.

I'll be fine, though. Human bodies are made to fight off infections and viral incursions, after all. You've halted and isolated the corrupted code, so we'll just need to give my body a chance to fight it off itself.

I'll be miserable in the meantime, but that's how you know it's working.
